Cont: 2024 Election Thread part 3

I am also against big government control of institutions and any increase of of nationalist socialist policies (nazi). I want no new wars or taking over any countries.

I do see that the fascist Nazi claim is a very popular notion for the extreme left. But it didn't work.
More blacks and Hispanics and Jews and gays moved right... not left. They gave Trump the win.
Have you looked at Project 2025? Or how about all those Fundamentalists who definitely want to control many aspects of people's personal lives who support Trump. No doubt for now they will be quiet about Project 2025 for awhile at least. I suspect an attempt at a version of Big Government intervention is all to possible.

As for wars I doubt the Ukraine is very happy about this outcome. My suspicion is that Trump will try to broker a deal that will basically reward Putin for his naked aggression against the Ukraine and of course very full support for Israel, which could involve conflict with Iran.

I have little doubt that anti-gay groups feel really empowered by Trump's victory, to say nothing about other groups.

And of course we have Trump's respect for democracy as revealed by his actions after the 2020 election. Which apparently a large section of the electorate doesn't care about. Why? is interesting. I suspected Trump would be re-elected after seeing the lack of effect on the electorate of the Jan. 6, 2021 Hearings. Oh and has Trump admitted that he lost the 2020 election? or is he still talking about fraud?

I note Hillary conceded she lost the day after and so did Kamala Harris. Class against no-class.

Trump offered people hope. That is why they voted for him.

Kamala is my girl, but she was Mrs. Sensible. From outside the US, Biden was uninspiring, he did little to reverse Trump policies (e.g. increased sanctions on Cuba for directed energy attacks should have been reversed as soon as it became apparent Cuba didn't have a secret weapon). He looked weak regarding Netanyahu. Harris couldn't distance herself from Biden, and so Biden's failings became hers. she didn't have an inspiring policy like Obama care.

As Clinton said it's the economy, dummy. Trump may have no well thought out policy on the economy but he promised to improve it and that's hope.

I'm depressed by the result of the election, but not surprised.

I have never, ever been so ashamed and embarrassed to be an American. I now empathize more than ever with how the anti-Nazi Germans in the 1930-40's and anti-fascist Italians in the 1920-30's felt. Some people are just too stupid to learn from history.
I am in the same boat, though I doubt thsoe opposed to Trump are anywhere near in as bad a shape as the people in Nazi Germany you mention
I would add the Anti Communist living in Stalin's Russia to that list.

I've been telling all the Trump supporters that have gone out of their way to brag at me today about how their guy won, "I hope you get everything Trump told you he'd give you."

He wants a mass deportation? Ok, a couple trillion added to the debt. You want to ax the ACA? Ok, I hope all you old dumb ◊◊◊◊◊ with pre-existing conditions enjoy having no, or extremely expensive, medical insurance. Women Trump voters need an abortion? IVF? Get your jumping shoes ready cause you've got some hoops to jump through. You want more money in your household? Well, Elon's going to be in charge of ◊◊◊◊ and he straight up said that times are going to be tough for a few years while he cuts everything.

So while I know it'll be tough for me too, I hope every Trump supported gets raked across the coals by his policies, and I'm going to belly laugh every. ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊. time.

That was a message aimed at working class voters, was it? Or just invective against the large numbers of people like that who supported Trump?

Again, the messaging to the working class was not "you're deplorable". Please try to actually stay on the question that was asked.
It was the message they got. Same message as this election, except this time the word was "garbage."

I still can't understand why so many MAGA people are still talking about how Trump will finally get control of the crazy inflation.

It's 2.4%!!!!

Are these people blind? Or do they mean Trump is going to lower prices on literally everything?
It's unlikely they even know it's 2.4% because they don't bother to find out. All they do is listen to Trump and MAGA talking heads complain about how "high" inflation is and believe it. Remember the Sept. video of Vance claiming eggs cost $5 a dozen while the sign directly behind him had eggs priced at $2.99?

Also a Republican false narrative! A particularly egregious one because that was literally calling out a Republican speaker for using "garbage!" If your point is that far too many people are insanely gullible, but only when it comes to brazenly false Republican narratives, I suppose that you do have a point, though.

ETA: Of course, going a bit further, this rather just goes back to a consistent pattern.

Step 1: Republican does or says something horrible.
Step 2: Democrat calls them out for that.
Step 3: Republicans scream bloody murder that the Democrat had the temerity to stand for something actually decent and the Democrat ends up getting blamed while the Republican gets money and praise.

Given how little tolereance American Voters have for pain, I doubt they will give Musk the time he needs for things to get better.
A lot of Trump program will be unpopular with the people who voted for him; and Trump loves being popular and in tyhe end the GOP in COngress have to answer to their constituients, partuclarly in the swing districts.

So what institutions are you talking about and who do you think should control them?
and any increase of of nationalist socialist policies (nazi).
What Nazi policies do we have now under Biden? Mass deportations of those "polluting the blood"? An authoritarian who wants to be a 'dictator on day one'? Do we have a president declaring we have an "occupied country" that needs "liberating" from all these "vermin"? Has Biden promoted using the military against Americans? Has he declared "America is only for Americans"? Oh, wait. Those are all part of Trump's fascist rhetoric.
I want no new wars or taking over any countries.
Has Biden started a new war or taken over any countries? But you must have no problem whatsoever if Russia takes over Ukraine, right?
I do see that the fascist Nazi claim is a very popular notion for the extreme left. But it didn't work.
It's a recognition from anyone who knows their history, left or not. I'm not 'extreme left' but having taught history, I can see the horrifying parallels of 1920's Italy and 1930's Germany with Trump's egomaniacal, narcissistic, hateful, and bigoted stand. That you can't is isn't surprising. A hell of a lot of Italian and Germans were in denial, too: It can't happen here! We're a cultured and educated people, not animals!"
More blacks and Hispanics and Jews and gays moved right... not left. They gave Trump the win.
Idiots aren't restricted to Christians or non-minorities. Idiots come in all colors and religions.

Dump is the parent in a custody battle promising his children cake for dinner every day, while Harris has to be the other parent trying to explain to the kids that they can't have cake for dinner daily.
I just witnessed a conversation between jubiliant Trump supporters. They were giddy about how their mortgages will go down, how taxes will be reduce or even eliminated, prices on groceries and gasoline will be lowered. Trump is going to do all those things, "on day one"!

How? Not considered. The effects and side-effects of these happenings? Not considered. Free money! Cheap things! Infinite spending! No bills! Cake cake cake cake cake, and never stomachache!

They seem to believe the prices of everything are controlled by a switchboard on the president's desk. He can just move a slider down (or up) to change the prices of oil, gas, groceries! It's wonderful! (It's unclear whether there's just one slider for general "groceries" or whether there's a separate one for each item.)

Interesting news from Silver. He has been saying in the past that the polls seem to be herding, but he looks favourably on two pollsters in particular, NYT/Siena polls and Ann Selzer.

Anyway, Ann Selzer has a new Iowa poll out which shows a surprisingly large shift towards Harris, even making her the favourite. Of course, Silver warns that the margin of error is large and the Dems lost Iowa by 9 points last time round, but it could be a good sign for other close races.

BTW, Selzer's poll was 17 points off. Like I said:
You know why most shocking findings are shocking?

They're wrong.

I want to see this mass deportation scheme they talk about. Who are they gonna round up, any brown person that's handy? It's ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ ridiculous on every level, including that if successful, there'd be no one to pick their fruit, their vegetables, or their e-commerce orders. It's just one nonsensical farrago after the other.

You should have hope with Trump... that no more healthy male Ukranians will need to die in a futile war come January. Putin will save face with a Trump deal. Kamala will just extend the war machine efforts.
Putinwill not make a deal with her.
You really think that's how it will come out? I think when Ukraine's weaponry runs out the Russian military will roll in committing massacres all along the way.

Hey, in areas that Russia controls, Russia is able to easily hide (most of) the massacres and atrocities, so he can feel vindicated, simply because he doesn't have to face the fact that he's actually on the pro-genocide and craven betrayal team. Just like when Trump disarmed the Kurds and delivered them into the hands of those who sought genocide against them.

Not like we'd likely ever have heard about Bucha had Ukraine not reclaimed such.

ETA: Oh, and anyone else happen to remember those plans to conscript all those healthy male Ukrainians by the Russians and use them to help attack further into Europe?

Never forget Putin's ultimate goal is the desctruction of the United States.
NATO Had better be prepared to spend a lot more on defense then they are used to.

That might be the silver lining. SO much of what Trump wants to do is just impossible.
I repeat; by 2026, we will have the worst case of buyer's regret in history with the swing Trump voters.
