Kamala Harris Election Campaign

Clarification of Biden's "garbage" remark"

"The only garbage I see floating out there is (Trump's) supporter’s… his demonisation of Latinos is unconscionable, and it's un-American," the transcript reads.

Biden himself later addressed his video call with non-profit organisation Voto Latino, writing on X: "Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump's supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage - which is the only word I can think of to describe it.

"His demonisation of Latinos is unconscionable. That's all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don't reflect who we are as a nation."

I'd rather a government by capable intellectuals than mouth breathers a la Idiocracy.

But, "no" to your answer since we have enough non-morons to survive as a democracy.
My problem is I have seen plenty of stupidity by "Intellectuals" a different flavor then MAGA but sitll stupid.
I also feel that power corrupts, and rule by a clique of anyking ends up with goverment by the clique, for the clique, and the hell with the wellfare of anybody not inthe clique.
I give you "The Inner Party" in 1984 as an example.

1984 was a book. I know that everyone likes to refer back to Orwell whenever there's something they don't like, or to claim one party is this or that, but that's still a book. It's not real people doing it.

Of course there are stupid intellectuals as I've often said here "Smart people can be stupid at the same time."

But I think you're trying to argue a point that no one really made.

I just think writing off everybody who votes for Trump as a total idiot is too easy an explanation. I am sure there are smart people who are voting for Trump because they see him as the lesser of two evils. I think they are making a big, big, mistake, but they are not total idiots.
And I suspect if Trump is elected,a lot of the lesser of two evils voters are going to have one of the worst cases of "buyers regret: in history .
I really think a lot of the non MAGA Trump voters don;t get it won't be like last time, where you a number of more conventional Republicand t oput the breaks on Trump.
BTW I don't thinkk any broup of goverment employees fears Trump 2.0 as people in the higher positions n the military. Thye think he plans for mass deployment of regular Military forces in big cities, is a terrible idea Thye know there is going be a huge backlash when
it goes south, and that Donnie will then basically hang them out to dry.

I think they are stupid because they believe the crap he spews. Anyone who can't see that he's a pathological liar who cares for nothing and no one but himself is stupid. Period.

So let’s track this:

1) Speaker at Trump rally calls Puerto Rico “garbage”.
2) MAGA response = It was a joke, get over it.
3) Biden calls MAGA “garbage”.
4) MAGA response = OUTRAGE

These are deeply unserious people.

It’s only wrong when a Democrat does it.

Oh, the righties are so upset.

◊◊◊◊ YOUR FEELINGS!

Or so I've heard.

Can you up with an intelligent reason for viewing Trump as the lesser of two evils?
No but emotion causes people to do stupid things.
I think it is hard to vote for somebody whose policies you disagree with even if the person represening your views it a disgusting dangerous person.
I also think there a lot of "Is is just politics; they are both full of it" atitude out there.
I just find the anybody who votes for Trump is either evil or stupid or both to be a pretty simplstic explanation.

We’re almost a full decade into people trying to figure out why Trump voters are Trump voters while ignoring the obvious answer staring them right in the face because it makes them uncomfortable.

I think it's bang on the nose.
Yeah, I know there's more complex reasons and excuses like "Oh, they're just pissed at the system", but anyone supporting Dump today is just a horrible person, period. If I'm feeling generous I can admit some of them might just be horribly ignorant, but that's a hard sell after 8+ years of massive coverage of him and his antics. They know what he's like, and they'll reveal themselves to have plenty of experience twisting themselves into pretzels to excuse his stupidity and the horrible things he says and does when you question them. If they don't just play dumb and pretend they don't understand what you're talking about. "Durr-huuuh, did Dump lie? When was this?"

I avoid listening to Harris speak, as I am not a fan of her "okay?" .
but that's my problem.

i never listen to Trump, fullstop.

I recommend actually listening to them both. Hearing what they themselves actually say, and how they say it in context, provides a very different perspective than how they're "reported" by both new and social media. It also gives you a much more comprehensive sense of how much absolute propaganda is in play these days.

Harris is far less arrogant and much less of a salesman when they speak... but Harris often doesn't actually communicate anything meaningful with their words. There's a whole lot of words that add up to no answer at all. At the end of the day, both of them have lately been far more focused on trying to paint the other as the devil than on trying to win over voters with solid policy arguments. The frightening thing is that Trump has actually spent more time during their campaign directly addressing issues and policy questions - even if we disagree with their views, they are being communicated in a way that's understandable. Harris is less icky and dislikeable... but lacks content.
