Cont: 2024 Election Thread part 2

My impression is that those paid influencers, what used to be called "independent media" (a joke of a label for a while now) on the
Right have captured a sizeable chunk of the young men's vote.

I can't think of a single reactionary male ******* aged 19-40 who isn't hooked on one of those guys' podcasts, YouTube channel, Instagram, etc.

https://newrepublic.com/post/185668/fbi-document-influencers-russian-disinformation

documents indicate 2800 influencers worldwide about 600 of which are in the us are involved in russian election interference efforts. thats a lot of based and red pilled guys

//Best Guess//

Republicans know young people voting means the end of them and trying to convert them?

I mean politics is weird (citation needed) so nothing is certain but a bunch of red pill online influencer dudebros seems more like an attempt to court the younger crowd, not their normal "Early Bird Special at Bob Evans" base.

it is 100%. look at steve bannon’s involvement and comments on gamergate as an example. they identify a group vulnerable to propaganda and exploit them

Even the early bird special crowd is barely enough to keep them in power, and only with gerrymandering and voter suppression. And those traditionally hard-core Republican voters aren't getting any younger (and eating the Early Bird Special at Bob Evan's can't be helping them live any longer). Having stodgy old white men hilariously trying to feign familiarity with the youth lingo hasn't had any positive effect for them. But hiring a bunch of 21st Century snake oil salesmen, who have been successfully grifting the youth for years, makes much more sense from a marketing perspective. The scary thing is it has a good chance of success.

well i’d say that’s roughly what they are. it’s a blanket term for anyone who’s been making a living being famous on the internet. basically you get some fame, whether it’s from playing video games or youtube or modelling, find sponsorship, and push what your sponsors are paying you onto your fans to pay your bills to continue to produce your content. it’s a bit like a classic celebrity does, but for them doing ads is their side thing. for influencers it’s their primary source of income. which, obviously, comes with its own set of strings attached

the scamming and grifting isn’t uncommon as a result. as much as an advertiser could pay for a post on twitter so could a crypto scammer. and apparently foreign governments through shell companies

and obviously then you could see how this influences the free speech and cancel culture debates. losing their platform is pretty crippling when it’s your primary source of income. it’s funny how all these garbage scammer guys ended up on the same side as the alt right, isn’t it?

Anatomy of an incredibly well-preserved Russian disinformation site, a thread.

Yesterday I found the right-wing Russian (aligned or controlled) disinformation site, RumorMillNews, which is incredibly well archived in the Way Back Machine to 1999, the internet disinformation equivalent of finding a fully preserved t-rex in the mud.

No matter how cathartic we find it, affecting a "LOL influencers get off my lawn *shakes cane*" routine is a bad take.

Young people are more online then even us, who by definition are very online people, can imagine. Some of the "nobodies that we've never heard of" are huge influences (no pun) on how younger people view the world.

i agree, that’s how you become out of touch.

Didn't someone say Trump would walk back on saying there was no 'Election Steal'?

@realDonaldTrump

CEASE & DESIST: I, together with many Attorneys and Legal Scholars, am watching the Sanctity of the 2024 Presidential Election very closely because I know, better than most, the rampant Cheating and Skullduggery that has taken place by the Democrats in the 2020 Presidential Election. It was a Disgrace to our Nation! Therefore, the 2024 Election, where Votes have just started being cast, will be under the closest professional scrutiny and, WHEN I WIN, those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences so that this Depravity of Justice does not happen again. We cannot let our Country further devolve into a Third World Nation, AND WE WON’T! Please beware that this legal exposure extends to Lawyers, Political Operatives, Donors, Illegal Voters, & Corrupt Election Officials. Those involved in unscrupulous behavior will be sought out, caught, and prosecuted at levels, unfortunately, never seen before in our Country.

Haha, wow.

I glanced at this, assumed it's a humorous parody, either your own work or maybe someone else's that you'd quoted, and was about to throw in a casual LOL or equivalent. Then I reread the thing, and, unbelievable as it is, even for Trump, it's actually his.

Words fail. This guy is truly truth-way-weirder-than-fiction category.

Quite interesting that every single former Democratic Presidential and Vice Presidential candidate that is alive has endorsed Kamala Harris. I was going to say none of the Republicans of similar status endorsed Trump. But that's not true. Palin has. That's it. Not Quayle, not W, not Ryan, Not Romney, not Pence. And Dick Cheney not only didn't endorse Trump, he endorsed Harris.

So all you Trump supporters that say it's just us liberals that can't stand Trump, think again.

That's just the Deep State. MAGA don't care.

Trump is cementing his position as favourite to rule again.
This is strictly because Harris and Walz are terrible candidates who can not be taken seriously.
You are savvy enough to understand that Harris is a low IQ candidate, the lowest in history.

Not exactly, but it's a lot closer than I'm comfortable with and so much closer than it should be.

I'm pretty sure that this is not true.

You are savvy enough to understand that Harris is a low IQ candidate, the lowest in history.

Why do you feel the need to repeat extreme right-wing nonsense ?

By all means try to criticise VP Harris for any perceived failings on her part, but to claim that she's the lowest IQ candidate in history is pure nonsense.

hey samson, as an experiment would you consider taking whatever your first impulse on what to say or do is about any topic and then doing the exact opposite of that thing for like a month and see how much better your life would be? i think you’d be surprised
