Cont: 2024 Election Thread part 2

I wonder if Swift will have any legal recourse to sue Trump over this.

I know this would partly fall under the concept of political speech (and as such might be protected). But she herself is not a political figure, and by posting the image suggesting Swift supports Trump, he is stating something that I am pretty sure is not true.

Even if she did, and was successful, do you think it would make one jot of difference?

President Trump would string out the case until well after the election, refuse to pay any damages and appeal indefinitely.

One of the weirdest aspects of modern American politics is that for all the talk of "Everyone votes a straight party, tribalism, red/blue state..." a state that is as completely in the pocket for one Presidential candidate as it possible to comfortably say having a governor/representative/senator from the other party, even the extremes of the other party, is absolutely normal and nobody thinks it odd.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was governor of California for that period in 2010s where a suggesting a Republican carrying California in the Presidential Election would get you sanctioned under the mental health act.

Who (speaking simply as a voting demographic) are these people going to the polls and voting for a Republican President but a Democratic Governor (or similar state office) or vice versa?

Hell is "Most people vote a straight party" even true?

Not a bit of difference, and besides, he’s probably better looking than she is too.

I am not sure you can count Arnie's victory as an example of "card carrying republican wins democratic state" since his celebrity status greatly affected his appeal as a political candidate.

A few issues at play here...

- Not all states have governor elections at the same time they have presidential elections. So voters may not be picking "same party for pres/gov" because picking the gov isn't an option

- In states where you do have "splits" (different parties for gov/pres), the governor is often more "moderate" than the person running for president (or the party at large.)

- Margins of victories are often narrow... its possible that MOST people still vote straight ticket, but the small minority of voters who split their votes are enough to swing the election.

Also weren't his policies rather liberal, for a Republican? I'm not Californian but I seem to recall a lot of fuss over how much he didn't act like a Republican sometimes.

Quite liberal. He took steps to address global warming, proposed universal health insurance and marajuana legalization.

Still wasn't completely left-wing (I believe he opposed gay marriage), but still much more moderate than the average republican of today.

We had to turn away lots of people yesterday in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, but Comrade Kamala Harris' Social Media Operation showed empty seats, long before the Rally started, early in the afternoon when, in actuality, we had to turn away 11,500 people! She's a Crooked Radical Left Politician, and always will be! Everything she touches turns bad, just like California, and San Francisco before it as is the case with all Marxists. She should have never been Vice President, and had to stage a COUP of Joe Biden, with her America-hating friends, Barrack Hussein Obama, Crazy Nancy Pelosi, Cryin' Chuck Schumer, and the rest. Comrade Kamala is a STONE COLD LOSER, she will FAIL and, if she doesn't, our Country will cease to exist as we know it, turning into a Communist, Crime Ridden Garbage Dump. November 5th will be the Most Important Date in the History of the U.S.A. It's as simple as that!...

People read this **** and think "yep, that guy should be in charge of the nukes."

That was just one example. My point is a state that is seen as safely blue or red for Presidential purposes having a governor (or Senators or whatever) from the other party isn't all the rare of an occurrence.

At this point, I think she has to file suit or send a public cease-and-desist letter to the Trump campaign. She has to make it absolutely clear that she does not support Trump.

Perhaps she'll release a really catchy diss track. That would be magnificent because it would be a completely appropriate response in her medium, it would make a ton of money (which she could then donate to Democrats for an additional burn), and it would weaponize her own massive fanbase in a show of popularity that makes Trump burn with envy even when it's not directed against him.

I agree it won't make a LOT of difference.

But, I always like to see Trump having to pay more to his lawyers. And maybe if the case is brought before the courts, any bad publicity will encourage the "swifties" to vote against Trump.

House committee is as behind times as Trump. They want to impeach VP Biden. So he cannot run against Trump in 2028?
Where is the impeachment of Kamala?

You ask about attempts to impeach Kamala? Ones like this? And this?

Maybe one should also throw in the obviously political "investigations" that the House Republicans are pretending at as they try to manufacture some pretense to impeach her with?

Dr. Ronny 'Johnson' Jackson needs to increase Donnie's Haldol strength.

Arnold was different. First, he was first elected in a crazy recall election where there really wasn't time to do research on him. He was fairly moderate as Governor and was popular (largely due to working with Democratic majorities in both state houses).

But this isn't just music, this is using her actual likeness. It's going to cost them big time.

You have to pay to use a person's image for promotional purposes.

Kamala could use it on stage too. It'll really tie the room together.

Also on the impeachment front, it looks like House Republicans finally released their report on their "Impeach Biden" wild goose chase investigations. Really short version? They still got nothing, admit they've got nothing, but recommend impeaching Biden anyways. Biden's candidacy is derailed anyways, though, so they're probably mostly just trying to seize back attention with this timing and divert such away from the DNC, on top of the usual.
