General UK politics VIII - The Last Tory

Oddly, I have managed not to tweet or re-tweet anything which could remotely be taken for calls for racist violence, even when I was a bit tiddly (an excuse used by one of the Southport rioters for why he was in a crimianl and racist riot).

I wonder how I ever managed to do that...

Actually, I checked with Carrot Flower Queen and it appears that she managed not to as well.

Very strange.

Agreed, even on this site and in real life I've managed to never call for human beings to be burned alive. (Hhhmmm, I wonder how Fuelair is doing these days).

There was a lot of support for the rioters on X from a certain section of Indians, who praised them as the "last defense against Sharia."

Don't they realise the Far Right won't stop at Muslims? Don't they realise that a coked up rioter doesn't ask questions about religion before attacking someone "not like us?"

I'm sure they are very careful to ascertain the religion of everyone being housed in hotels before they incite people to burn them alive.

The Telegraph really is turning into the New Daily Mail:

Labour decision to drop plan to ban terrorists from social housing branded ‘disgraceful’
(MSN link to go behind the Telegraph's paywall.)
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/ukne...d-disgraceful/ar-AA1oC4Bt?ocid=BingHp01&ei=16

The story is that the previous government had a proposal to "block terrorists with unspent convictions from claiming social housing unless “absolutely necessary” to uphold national security.". In other words the Tories would have continued to house released terrorists in social housing. And of course these would have been convicted terrorists that the Tories would have released on various early release schemes/licences/probation rather than finishing a jail sentence.

But it is disgraceful that the Labour government won't be keeping to a Tory headline generating press release, or as the Tories called them "policies".

We should be able to power a small town for a day from the spinning the Telegraph is doing.

The Telegraph was almost hilariously deranged in it's opinion pieces during the election.

I believe I did query the carrying capacity of the lamposts in Westminster in the run up to the recent UK election.

I don't suppose there's any mechanism to discipline him? I imagine that normally would come from the party, if an MP is neglecting their duties, but that's obviously not going to happen in this case.

I'm hoping his constituents recall him and force a by-election.

The people of Clacton have the MP they wanted, he is acting as all those that voted for him knew he would.
Conditions for a recall:

https://www.electoralcommission.org...ections-work/types-elections/recall-petitions
How a recall petition is triggered
A recall petition will take place if an MP is:

convicted of an offence in the UK and receives a custodial sentence (including a suspended sentence) or is ordered to be detained, other than solely under mental health legislation
suspended from the House of Commons for 10 sitting days or 14 calendar days
convicted of providing false or misleading information for allowance claims under the Parliamentary Standards Act 2009.
In the case of a conviction, the recall petition will only be opened if the conviction, sentence or order has not been overturned during the appeal period and when any appeals have been heard and dismissed.

A recall petition will not be opened, if:

the last possible date for a UK Parliamentary general election is within the next 6 months
a recall petition is already underway in respect of the MP
the MP’s seat has already been vacated

<snip>

The Telegraph is a joke these days. I saw one Telegraph headline on Twitter-X saying, 'Kamala Harris is the new Meghan Markle'. No prizes for guessing this was the joke <ahem> 'journalist' Camilla Tominey.

Thank goodness this crap is behind a paywall.

I think someone needs to explain to them the fundamental difference between things people have absolutely no choice about, for which they consequently bear no responsibility (where they were born, who their parents were, what colour skin they were born with etc), and things they freely choose to do and for which they can consequently be held entirely responsible (vote for Donald Trump, engage in blood sports, be an entitled prick etc)

It's a game and a way of minimising actual racial discrimination

Article is unclear but Equality Act protection also applies to "religion or belief"; IIRC veganism has been found to be a protected belief.

Heads up: Lucy Connolly remanded in custody until 2 Sept hearing.

So #LucyConnolly was remanded in custody by Judge Adrienne Lucking KC. The 41-year-old childminder, of Parkfield Avenue, Northampton, will reappear at the same court on September 2. #RiotsUK #FarageRiots

I half expected her to get bail given her means and Tory-councillor husband connection. Given Tyler Kay who copied and pasted her tweet got a lengthy sentence, that wouldn't have looked right.
