Merged 2024 Election Thread

Trump's response is that "He goes down as the single worst president by far in the history of our country".

Experts disagree strongly:

President Biden is in a tight race to keep former President Donald Trump from reclaiming the White House, recent polls show. But that's not how 154 historians and presidential experts see it: They rate Biden in the top third of U.S. presidents, while Trump ranks dead last.

The 2024 edition of the Presidential Greatness Project Expert Survey has Biden in 14th place, just ahead of Woodrow Wilson and Ronald Reagan. Trump comes in 45th, behind fellow impeachee Andrew Johnson and James Buchanan, the perennial cellar-dweller in such ratings due to his pre-Civil War leadership.

The dems should not just crown Harris. Having some sort of contest, whether its a mini primary or something else would have many advantages.

They would dominate the news cycle for the next several weeks and push Trump largely out of it. He would have to resort to saying ever crazier nonsense to try and recapture the narrative. It would also leave the GOP with no one specific to attack until the election is only a couple months out. I see nothing but upside for the dems.

I think the Dems' smartest move is to nominate Kamala Harris and do it quickly. They need to show unity and decisiveness. The worst thing would be if this turns into weeks of speculation followed by a floor fight at the convention.

Harris won't win the election.

There's no way the USA will elect a woman.

Madness, pressured out by the dickheads in his own party.

Who will they put up now?

Trump will have a field day.

Probably the Dems best move. As someone once said, at this point Biden couldn’t even pass an interview for assistant manager at Taco Bell.

I think Kamala has a pretty good chance of winning in November.

Biden has withdrawn.

Game on!

Holy ****. Well, maybe this will turn out to be the right move. I hope.

Thankfully, Joe did what probably was best for the country.

i think that's 100% right. He'd lost the plot and a younger, smarter candidate is a beautiful to Trump's ugliness. (politically, that is)

I wonder if Trump will bow out of the Sept. debate now. Harris would wipe the floor with him.

I said that after the first debate - she will cut him to bits.

Harris won't win the election.

There's no way the USA will elect a woman.

Or a black.

Again, Kamala actually being a president for a month or two could help the matter a lot.

Any public-level competition ends up with the opponents pointing out the weaknesses and flaws of each other. Then the winner needs to spend time getting away from all of the mud that was slung at them. Even then, **** they say about each other in the primaries still gets used against them in the general election campaign.

It's really late to have all of that mud slinging, the candidate who wins wouldn't have much time to recover from it.

Plus, any primary-lite campaign this late is only going to favor those candidate who already have big war chests or who can count on fast big donor money, no time for grass-roots organization or individual voter-level fundraising. It'll favor the corporatist establishment candidates.

I just hope he spent time getting potential candidates to stand down and support Harris.

What media driven gibberish.

That sound you just heard was an awful lot of reporters and media pundits having simultanous orgasm. Their hard work and perserverance finally paid off.

Yes, Biden was doing so well until his party, the media and the general public criticized his inability to speak coherent sentences or tell the difference between Zelensky and Putin, his own Vice President and his presidential opponent, the president of France and a deceased president of France, the current German chancellor and a deceased one…

He was about to do so well in upcoming interviews and a debate… but those idiots (senators, congressmen, Pelosi, Obama, donors, volunteers and supporters) apparently thought they knew better…

I think that's dead right- - it will give people who don't like her because they know nothing about her a chance to see her in action.

I can't wait to see where the money's going now it's happened.

A black man yes, a black woman?

Its a risk to be sure

Thats what happens in an ordinary primary race but I think the candidates can alter the way they conduct themselves given the short length of time they have to wash off the mud. They could agree to stick to campaigning on their own ideas and merits and to keep negativity towards fellow candidates to a minimum. Of course they are politicians so that agreement may not hold.

I've seen this said several times before over the years, but never seen anybody give an example of it actually happening. (Or, more importantly, an example of it actually happening with a criticism that the other party wouldn't've thought of on their own.)

Yeah, no. That's not going to happen by a long shot.
