I think the Dems' smartest move is to nominate Kamala Harris and do it quickly. They need to show unity and decisiveness. The worst thing would be if this turns into weeks of speculation followed by a floor fight at the convention.

While it's conceivable that Biden might have won, on the basis of not being Trump, do we really want someone who is clearly starting to lose his faculties as the leader of the free world?

Why, it's publicity and takes away Trump's spotlight.
And let them have a fair fight/competition, that's a good thing.

The other problem is that Vance brings no extra votes to Trump. Their constituencies are exactly the same.

Debate Vance (officially or otherwise), then debate Trump once she has the Top Spot.

I just hope he spent time getting potential candidates to stand down and support Harris.

I see no downside for Democrats in this.

Vance is a mini-Trump, adding absolutely nothing for the Ticket.
The novelty of the shooting is already fading, returning us to Republican Ticket still rehashing the last decade instead of offering anything new.

Democrats are doing what many Republicans whished their Party could do: swap out the Old Guy.
