I have no idea if that's correct. He was favored to win even before this. If the same thing had happened to Biden would we assume that he must now win?

If it had happened a week before the election I think it would have a bigger impact, but this will be old news by November.

I haven't been able to get a good number for the distance, so I don't know how very hard it was.
Some reports say that Trump turned his head just before the shot, and if he hadn't, it would have been a headshot.

So probably a very good shooter, but not with access to the right kind of equipment.

I agree about the moment after the shot and as Trump is being helped back to his feet; they would never sound the all-clear if one person was stopped.

But the Secret Service should have been monitoring every place with a conceivable line of sight on the President. They didn't and as a result Trump is going to be re-elected. That is the huge failure. Seriously, some 20-year-old kid found a hole in their defense?

On ABC News Australia they had an interview with a man who had been outside the showgrounds where Trump was speaking and the man had seen the shooter climb on to the building nearby.

The man in the interview had pointed out the man with the rifle to the nearby Secret Service (or police?) officers and said there was then a couple of minutes delay before the shooting started.

Seems like the point of failure right there.

Trump was facing to his right for several seconds and rather still, when he suddenly cupped his ear, so he was a perfectly stationary target. A few inches to one side and it would have been right between the eyes. Granted, a profile shot probably would have been easier if he had not turned earlier. I wonder if the shooter took the held, face-on opportunity and the distance was enough that windage took effect.

Trump managed to build himself a Fan Club in the Secret Service during his term and after, to the point they destroyed evidence after January 6th to shield their collusion.
It's is very possible that Trump's Detail is picked for loyalty rather than competence.

A more interesting question there is if an assassination attempt on Biden was successful, would Harris be able to run to victory in 2024 the way LBJ did in 1964?

As for the timing, it's close enough to the election and the image is beyond iconic. I'm not saying that Trump is fated to win by better than the 63% or so the bookies have him at; there's many a slip. But I have a much harder time seeing the way any Democrat (even a swapped-in candidate) can win.

According to SCOTUS, Biden could have legally ordered the hit, so no complaints are possible. None. Perfectly legit and legal.


If Trumplings wish to remedy the situation, they might attend to reason wrt to firearms in public, and must object to naming cock-suckers of the super-wealthy to the Supreme Court. Otherwise, not a single little GOP maniac has anything to stand on.
