Assuming he was going for a head shot, the shooter might have considered the possibility that Trump was wearing body armor.

Impressed by the Secret Service counter fire. From what I've seen, they took out the shooter before a follow up shot could happen. A second shot would have corrected and most likely killed him.

It's pretty clear from the videos that the sniper fired at least three shots. That also tracks with the fact that one audience member was killed, and two were seriously wounded.

Hinckley was 25, Oswald and Sirhan were 24, Princip and his co-other conspirators in the assassination of Franz Ferdinand were all about 19 or 20, all but one of the 9/11 hijackers were under 30—not to mention, all of the school shootings and other mass shootings committed by disturbed young men (or teenage boys).

Not sure why getting shot has to be one of the best things to happen to Trump. I see nothing good about this. His supporters will be very happy about his getting shot but I’m not seeing how getting shot expands his base. Can you elaborate?

This feels like a "This is when it all went wrong" moment. Whichever 'side' did it, it was wrong. Full stop. But I think.we're now at a fork in the road and I'm worried.

Yeah, it's not good. Of course it's wrong. But this is nothing new in American politics. Or other countries for that matter. The former Prime Minister of Japan was assassinated just 2 years ago. I also have a feeling that since Trump survived this helps him politically. And people who hypothesize some sort of "false flag" conspiracy are always wrong. I expect that we will find that this individual was acting alone.

That image of him holding up his fist in defiance of the shooter was a moment that will go down in history. I'm not voting for him but the contrast between his performance there and Biden's in the debate is stark. Think about the fact much commented on (by me) that today's Republican voters are less informed and generally less reliable voters than the Democrats. This is an event that will almost certainly galvanize the intensity of the GOP support.

ETA: Betting markets are showing Trump at 63.3%. The irony is that at least this takes the focus off Joe for a news cycle or two.

All of Trump's Life, consequences are what happens to other people. And even when it looked like lawsuits are going to bury him angels from his SC swooped in to safe him.

I don't think he ever thought that anyone would actually be able to physically hurt him.

This coward who tucked tail and bolted to the WH bunker in the basement when protesters were on the other side of the fence now rises defiantly just moments after being nicked by a bullet, making himself into a target again?

I suppose we could ascribe it to shock of some sort, but his deliberative action with raised fist, contorted face, and determined yells of, "Fight! Fight! Fight!" don't strike me as anywhere near the normal reaction in such an otherwise chaotic scene. He would be expected to be squishing himself into as tiny a ball as he could.

Unless he's really crazy and thought he was at that moment invulnerable. Or was momentarily overcome by the temptation to take an easy way out of his difficulties via actual martyrdom.

It just seems too out of character for this selfish prick to spontaneously take any kind of defiantly brave exposure in the moment of danger.
