Merged Trump shot in PA??

Couple random thoughts:

Too soon to start selling Maxwell Smart "Missed it by that much" t-shirts?

Headshots are for video games, center mass in real life

Impressed by the Secret Service counter fire. From what I've seen, they took out the shooter before a follow up shot could happen. A second shot would have corrected and most likely killed him.

How long until someone from the MAGA crowd takes a shot at Biden?

Will a brush this close to death have any effect on Trump? PTSD, hesitation when under pressure? Anything?

After the shooting some of the crowd tried to get at the press pool and had to be held back by security. They were shouting at the press, blaming them for it.

I think that there is a very good chance that calmer heads will prevail and that this will not lead to more violence. But I'll admit from feeling a lot less than 100% certain about that.

ETA: A bit of speculative ballistics math here: https://x.com/AlecDacyczyn/status/1812294985552703564

The person thinks that the velocity of the round is consistent with .223/5.56 round. If so, Trump had a very close brush with death.
All those people laughing at Dubalb for predicting riots after the election.

When the guy shot Trump, Trump had his head turned to the right, so he was facing the shooter. If he had his head turned toward the audience in front of him, he would probably be dead now.

This is horrible. I hate Dump and all that, and I can't wait for the day he finally croaks, but nothing good will come of this. Even if they had killed him, they'd just have made him a yuge martyr for the cause, and I honestly think the GOP has higher chances of winning with another candidate, than with Drumpf.

Again, nothing good will come of this. More people will get hurt, quite possibly killed. The far-right and their trolls will milk it for all it's worth.

Also, frustrating and depressing to see people in the Beau of the Fifth Column comments thread cooking up conspiracy theories. "Oh my gods, Dump acted so calm, must've been a false flag!!". They're usually a rational bunch. I tried telling them that you can't judge people for how they act in emergencies, but up to several just refused to listen. I pointed out to one of them that maybe, just maybe, it wasn't that likely that they got someone to commit suicide by Secret Service (what would be in it for them?), for then to have them aim to only grace Dump's ear. And then... what? Dump and the The Secret Service went "okay, now remember not to show any sign of urgency, we don't want this to look believable! This isn't the time for acting!"
Haven't gotten a reply yet. Perhaps they saw reason.

Nah .. Trump's conviction did nothing. Biden's debate did nothing. This will also do nothing.
Thank heavens the election is still months away. Imagine if this had happened in October.

Trump to win the election just went to -250 now. That implies a 74.31% chance to win.

Not sure why you're even looking at polls right now, this just happened. This is the same kind of "sky is falling" posting we saw after the debate, and the polls are back to where they were before that. We'll need weeks or more to know if this will have a lasting impact.

Our side just needs to keep reminding them that they are the ones advocating and condoning violence, though.

I hate Trump - but this is bad. Very bad. This kind of violence usually results in action opposite of what the shooter was hoping for. This will likely only benefit Trump. And regardless of any political calculation, using violence at this point is just wrong.

Exactly. IMHO, this makes it more likely that Trump wins the election.

Possible silver lining that the Democrats will recognize the necessity of pivoting to a younger, stronger candidate? Failure to do so would feel like surrender at this point.

Not even polls. A bookie site showing how people are betting on the outcome of the election.

No, they intentionally shot him in the ear with 5.56 round from 450 feet. Easy schmeazy, no risk of it going wrong.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

My grandpa was reputedly capable of that, but he died a few years ago at age 92 (WW2 sniper). So it wasn't him, I guess.

The dumbass kept rising up taller than his SS detail to get in the cameras. And he kept that fist up do any other shooters could know exactly where he was.

He made his security detail work extra hard to save him from himself.

But the thank you post (if he actually had anything to do with it) was grateful, recognized the family of the dead magat respectfully and was well written.

That's suspect right there.

Which I imagine skews heavily, since most people aren't into betting, and the ones who are probably have lots in common.

Not really. It makes sense they'd have a canned message ready in the event of a shooting at a rally. No different from, say, the media having obituaries ready for people who aren't dead yet.

No, not really.
Now that you say so, I remember someone shot out the window of Obama's reading room in the WH while has was POTUS. Thankfully he wasn't in the room at the time.

Not a bookie site but an amalgamation of the market at large. The political betting market is very large and the market is more efficient than typical sports betting. Its an important early data point. No more, no less. Dismissing it is silly.
