U.S. Border and Immigration

I was going to ask Bogative what the purpose of linking to these stories about crimes committed by illegal immigrants, and what his stance was in general on this topic. I looked back over his posts, and found this, which was written in response to JoeMorgue asking that same question:

The actions of an individual is indicative of the behavior of an entire group of people.

I learned that here at the ol' skeptics forum.

Bogative, then, considers all brown-skinned people to be criminals. At this point, I see no further point in trying to understand or engage with him. A bigot cannot be reasoned out of bigotry, and giving them attention just reinforces their smug prejudices and gives them the attention they crave.
Nasty. Very nasty.

I continue to find it hilarious that the best defense of conservatism that conservatives can muster is to become the worst version of it.

Why would you assume that just because someone is an illegal immigrant, they must be brown-skinned?

It turns out you did find a bigot - only it's not Bogative, it's you.

We actually have a surprising volume of Russian immigrants of unclear legal status in my beach town. Most would fly over here to work during summer months, but some figured out a way to stay, living in garage apartments over the winter and stuff.

Since the Ukraine invasion, they don't seem to be around in droves anymore, but there are still a bunch of under the wire year rounders who suddenly insist they are from Ukraine.

This post reminds me of when basketball players go up for a dunk and the ball ricochets off the back of the rim instead.

Please don't misrepresent my argument. I have not said I don't believe it: I have explicitly stated that I am perfectly prepared to believe it, given a named or official source. Unnamed deputies cited by sites known to make things up don't fit the bill.
Fox 11 is known to make things up? Examples please.

You, on the other hand, are accepting uncorroborated claims, because it suits you to do so. And now you're running away from that, to your next example of "those evil foreigners illegal aliens who rape, kill and murder people".
FTFY

You must've missed the exchange between "Steve" and myself where we discussed my post you quoted.

Here's the money shot.

Cosmic Yak got hoisted by his own petard.

Yes, what a devastating zinger. Clearly, Cosmic Yak wasn’t referring to the subset of illegals immigrants that Bogative calls out, which all just happen to be brown-skinned. Another successful “Liberals are the real racists” takedown from the crowd that supports a guy for president whose social media account shouted out a “unified reich” two weeks ago.

How big of a problem is it?

Quite a large one and getting worse:

BEECHER FALLS, Vt. - In the last year, U.S. Border Patrol agents said they have arrested record numbers of migrants trying to cross the northern border of the United States, many of them through the remote crossroads where Canada meets New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York.

"It was a flood we had never seen before. It was an exponential shift, something we were not expecting and it just hit us hard," said Erik Lavallee, the Border Patrol Agent in Charge of the U.S. Border Patrol Beecher Falls Station in Vermont.

In fiscal year 2023, Swanton Sector agents arrested roughly 7,000 migrants trying to cross the border illegally. That is more than the previous 12 years combined.

The number still pales compared to the thousands who cross the southern border daily but Lavallee said it is startling.

"We understand completely that the northern border issues versus the southern border issues are apples and oranges. However, that being said, having been up in this sector for almost 20 years, I have never seen anything like it," Lavallee said.

Border Patrol said they have arrested individuals from 66 different countries, including India, Bangladesh, Haiti, and Venezuela. Roughly 49 percent of those arrested came from Mexico.

During a WBZ-TV tour of the northern border, we saw Lavallee and Border Patrol agents arrest a Lithuanian national who tried to cross through the woods abutting a pond that straddles the border between Vermont and Canada.

Lavallee said most of the migrants they are seeing are men traveling without families, although the Border Patrol does still see family units. He said many are involved in human smuggling.

"We know there are multiple organizations that are utilizing Canada to smuggle individuals into the United States," Lavallee said.

Well that's just horribly bad statistics.

When given a choice between two discrete options with no additional information about them at all, the default assumption is generally that it's a uniform distribution, a 50-50 chance... But as soon as you actually know anything at all that could alter those odds, continuing to assume that the likelihoods are the same is a really bad idea.

Which is exactly what what we were given. We were told by a commenter that the culprit was an illegal immigrant. This poster is not known for accuracy and reliability and neither is the one source he cited.

Cosmic yak assumed no such thing, but nice try. The fact that Bogative consistently links only to stories of crimes committed by brown or black immigrants is what led him to believe Bogative is a bigot.

As Stacyhs says, that was not my assumption. It was a conclusion, based on the fact that Bogative does indeed link solely (as far as I can recall) to instances of criminality allegedly committed by Latinos. Bogative says these individuals are representative of the group to which they belong, meaning he considers all Latinos to be criminals. Hence, he is a bigot.

"Money shot"?
:dl:

Get over yourself.
I also saw the comment you expressed to Norman Alexander, that "your opinion blows goats".
You are an unrepentant bigot, who occasionally tries to hide behind a pretence of sarcasm when things get too hot.
If you reject that characterisation, perhaps you could explain the purpose of you constantly linking to stories about brown-skinned immigrants allegedly committing crimes in the US? What's your point? Plus, why don't you link to stories of alleged criminality by Russian or other white immigrants?

I think I spotted your error. You linked me to "Fox News," when I asked about FOX 11. Here's what MBFC, an organization I'm supposed to find credible for some reason, says about FOX 11.

I'm happy to help you out, no need to thank me.

He said that? Probably because most goats aren't white, so all goats are therefore brown and thus murder each other. Logic rulez!
