U.S. Border and Immigration

Strangely, that whole "longing for a simpler time" is a trait you find in most Sorkin protagonists.

Indeed, that gilded Trumpet has been blaring for quite some time, even before the former nincompoop in chief picked it up. You'd think that even those with less-than-average intelligence would be able to figure it out eventually, but apparently that's not the case.

Both political parties have their pet issues they like to use to get elected. Neither of those parties actually want anything substantial done that improves those particular issues. They would rather continue to blame the other party and use these issues to get elected, while perhaps passing a few bills that do virtually nothing along the way for propaganda purposes.

Republicans are a little more obvious about it lately, but it has almost always been a major part of American politics. The only question remaining is how obvious they can be and still get away with it. This one is pretty glaring, but the phenomenon has always been a factor.

It's built-in to any two party power structure. You just have to harp on those issues that the public disagrees upon the most and mostly ignore everything else that doesn't have the potential to make you (or your favored lobby) money.

And yes, I'm aware of how cynical that sounds. It's also not the whole picture. But it's a huge part of why stuff doesn't get done, and why the biggest problems/arguments linger forever until they build up enough pressure that you'll have riots to deal with if you don't address them -- and maybe also if you do address them.

Could the Democrats take advantage of Republican hypocrisy about undocumented immigrants? Aside from making Biden look bad, Republicans want undocumented immigrants. They provide cheap labor, scapegoats, and bogeymen. I'll believe that Republicans want to deal with the immigration crisis if they advocate locking up employers of undocumented immigrants.

And, as Trump did at Mar-a-Lago, you can have them deported when they ask for more humane pay and conditions.

It is hard to say they can't do that when we haven't seen them try

Not really, no. The "Border Crisis" that exists in the heads of Fox viewers and the actual situation at the border are separate things. Fox would have you believe that hordes of gang members are illegally crossing the border, entering cities and towns, and randomly killing people and dealing drugs. In reality, most of the people crossing the border are running away from the gangs, and a lot of them are turning themselves in and applying for asylum as soon as they cross the line.

The Biden administration is trying to reason with delusional psychos. It is not going well.

The problem is, our media is setting it up as 2 equal sides debating. So of course, the good centrist moderate position is that they should compromise with each other. And if they can't compromise, both sides are equally at fault.

A 7 times deported illegal alien has been arrested and is facing charges of aggravated murder in Ohio.

Local news story.

If we only gave them citizenship and/or voting rights, this would stop happening. Or something.

Yeah, you're right; citizenship hasn't stopped the vast majority of murderers born and raised in the U.S.

Baltazar Perez-Estrada, an illegal alien residing in Illinois, found out his wife had a boyfriend so he "knifed his 26-year-old bride dozens of times in her head, body, hands and neck, nearly slicing off her head." The illegal alien committed this murder in front of his 2 minor children.

Great! Now who is going to do jobs Americans won't do for **** pay?

Yes and we can counter any example of criminal act by an undocumented immigrant with another criminal act by a US citizen. It means nothing in the totality of the immigration issue.

A Hewlett man, Danny Susi, 23, is arrested in Island Park after threatening a 53-year-old man with a knife during a verbal argument, leading to charges including attempted assault and menacing.

Long Island.com

Darrick Whelan was charged Wednesday in Kandiyohi County with second- and third-degree assault.

He’s accused of attacking a 53-year-old woman who works at CentraCare – Rice Memorial Hospital and had been caring for Whelan.

What is running here to tell us about every time a brown person does something supposed to accomplish exactly?

And how many of our natural born, domestic enemies of the Constitution do the same thing? I bet I could find plenty of Trump supporter vermin who did the same thing or worse.

The actions of an individual is indicative of the behavior of an entire group of people.

I learned that here at the ol' skeptics forum.
