Anyone know what the felony was in the end? The (normally a misdemeanor) fraudulent in-house records were to aid in covering felony xyz.
What was it?

Falsifying Business Records - 34 counts.

“Who would have thought that the man whose
1. company was found guilty of tax fraud
2. charitable foundation was shut down because fraud
3. his university shut down for fraud

was found guilty of fraud?” - a friend.

Thanks. But the business records are not felonies...unless they were used in committing a felony. I want to know what , in the end, was the actual felony.

Maybe we have to wait until a juror goes on record to tell us.
The prosecution never did.

So what are the range of potential sentences? Like, if this were a normal crooked businessman and not a former president running to get elected again, what would might be a plausible range of sentences?

Obviously Trump isn't a normal white-collar convict, but I guess I'm looking for "normal world" context.

You know, I logged off work an hour early today after hearing this. Blew my concentration to pieces. I guess I probably expected a hung jury or a mistrial or conviction on just a few charges or something. Glad I'm wrong, but all the spice on Arrakis won't give me the precognition to see what goes on in the next six months.

I've been bingeing police body cam videos lately. From what I can tell, most crimes not resulting in bodily injury get extremely light sentences, when they get sentenced at all.

Concurrent all counts 1-3yrs. 44 possible prison locations. Parole eligible in 1yr

Usually the felony is known, but that is what would be the normal sentence.

They are a felony in New York.

“The charge of falsifying business records is a Class E felony in New York, the lowest tier of felony charges in the state. It is punishable by up to four years in prison, though the punishment would ultimately be up to the judge and there’s no guarantee he would give Trump time bars. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg declined to say whether prosecutors would seek prison time.”

Guilty on all counts. Is it time for a new thread yet? I want to gloat, not discuss technicalities.

Yep..in order to do "what"? That is the felony part of falsifying records. Why?
The prosecution said they did not have to give a reason. And thry didnt give any official reason. The jury could decide which reason made it a felony. The jury members did not need to agree what made it a felony, just that it was a felony for whatever reason.

It is technically legal to try a case that way in NY, but not very transparent.

Question:

Judges often give reduced sentences if the guilty party is a "first time offender".

If Trump happens to get convicted at any other trial (either in Georgia, or the federal trial), what would be the results on his sentencing then? Would it lead to a harsher sentence because he is a "habitual offender"? Or would they ignore it because it was a different jurisdiction or because the indictments in Georgia/federally were issued before the guilty verdict in NY?

Actually, it didn't have to hide another felony. But it did have to hide other illegal activities. In this case one of three things. Violating state election laws, Federal election laws or tax fraud.

"Where's the felony? Show me the felony? I don't see no felony."

Jesus the excuses get dumber and dumber.

Hopefully we get a non-partisan review of the case and a review of any grounds to launch an appeal within the next few days. I'm hearing all sorts of cries from the right wing blog-o-shpere that the conviction will be overturned, but no evidence of how or on what grounds.

"But other crimes (that I also don't care about) are happening!"

Beautiful guy, beautiful. Keep it up.

By who? You just had 12 non-partisan jurors review this case. The right wing blog-o-sphere are appealing to their listeners and viewers. Appeals take time. Just ask E Jean Carroll. Trump is appealing two verdicts in those cases.

He'll appeal for certain. But get ready to hurry up and wait.

It has taken waaaaaaay too long, but Trump was finally found guilty of something in a criminal court.

Hopefully, this process will continue to be repeated in the future.
