You're assuming that video is the source of the information about what the number plate was. I recognise you found some guy on xitter claiming that video was his source, but that (and he) is not necessarily where the information really came from.

I don't know where the information came from but it is a neat fit for the facts available and not contradicted as I briefly thought yesterday.

This seems to be the earliest source and with 115K views:

E10 = petrol / gasoline
EFL - English Football League

That registration could be someone with football connections.

ETA: here's a blown up version of the vehicle which shows that numberplate:

He owns Theleme, registered in the Cayman Islands.

First, as noted, he left in 2013. Second, according to this Forbes article, his stake was less than five percent. The term "owns" generally implies a controlling interest.

Sunak left TCIF in 2009 to join Santa Monica-based Theleme Partners, a fund set up by former TCIF cofounder Patrick Degorce. Sunak owned less than 5% of the firm, which had $2.2 billion in assets under management according to the last available disclosure form filed in February 2013. He left Theleme in 2013 to launch Catamaran Ventures UK with his wife, Akshata.

In fairness, I observe that the article also states that Sunak and his wife cofounded Catamaran; I'd read earlier that her father owned the company. However, she has announced that Catamaran will be winding down its operations this year.

ETA: Reading further, I see that they founded Caramaran UK, a subsidiary of Catamaran, which is owned by her father.

The blind register being the Ministerial Code Registers of Interest in which Sunak registered his interests as being blind. 'Blind' being what it says on the Ministerial Code Registers of Interest under Sunak.
Bollocks. You still won't admit you were completely wrong.

But people say it is a 2014 Range Rover Sport because of the numberplate as per DVLA.

Wrong. I say its a 2014 to 2019 Range Rover Sport because the front view and rear view of the car on fire in the photos/videos exactly matches what a Range Rover of those years looks like with regards to taillight, headlight, and sidelight clusters, and the positions of the number plates and the air intakes. AFAIC, the number plate is only supporting evidence.

Not only is there no other car which matches these, there isn't even another year of Range Rover that matches these.

Now, I have presented my evidence. If you think this car is different from the one I have concluded, then its YOUR BURDEN to prove I am wrong.. and at this point, I am going to "pull a Vixen" and demand you find another vehicle of a different make and year of car, that exactly matches the Range Rover in question. Anything short of that will be summarily dismissed!

You appear to be confirming that the numberplate reported was correct, and so the car where the fire started was a diesel. Thank you.

Here is the video in question

I downloaded the video and ran it through Scene Detection in Adobe After Effects. I couldn't see any obvious cut points or edits, or any distortions which are some of the hallmarks of a faked video. Also, the camera is actually moving, so someone faking this would need to have done some motion tracking with the substituted car, and that makes it even more unlikely to be faked video. If this is a different car superimposed over an original, it is an excellent job, because there is no sign of the greenscreen edge around the car on any frame.

If it is faked, it has been done by someone with professional skills, and beyond my ability to detect.

I have put a download link below to the video in my Dropbox if anyone would like to download it themselves and have a crack at it, maybe using Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro, none of which I have

You could be right about the football connection, but you are wrong about the E10 meaning any kind of fuel in this context.

The E10 Project is a football academy based in Reading... and Reading Football Club compete in EFL League One

https://www.e10footballproject.com/

ETA: Interestingly, a major sponsor of Reading Football Club is a company called "Select Car Leasing", which has the naming rights for their home ground, Madejski Stadium. Among the vehicles "Select Car Leasing" have on their books is... the Range Rover Sport.

This seems to be the earliest source ...

Looks like "...EFL" to me, and plausibly "E 10 EFL".

Did that person claim to have taken the video? Whoever has the original video would have a much higher resolution image than that.

That registration could be someone with football connections.
Or a million other things; a couple whose initials are EIO and EFL for example. Maybe someone whose initials are EFL and for whom the number 10 may either be relevant or not. A neighbour of mine has his own initials and then those of his three kids. Speculation seems pointless, does it not?

Best I can do from using a single frame in Photoshop. Used Topaz Gigapixel and it's "text and lines" algorithm and then played about with contrast etc. Could get "more" detail "recovered" but that's then in the "AI adding in stuff it thinks fits" realm.

But people say it is a 2014 Range Rover Sport because of the numberplate as per DVLA.

People were saying it was a second generation (2013 - 2022) Range Rover Sport before that because that's what's seen in the video.

(I know nothing about Photoshop but) isn't it possible to merge a whole stack of images to reduce noise?

I have a vague memory of reading about astronomers using a similar technique to reduce distortion due to atmospheric perturbation. A sort of de-twinkle, as it were.

Smart Cooky confirms the numberplate in that video can't be read, so the person claiming it was that aforesaid number was just guessing.

Again, like so many other conspiracy theorists, you jump to the conclusion that you have all the available evidence. There may be other files with that video that have different compression applied making them sharper than the one we're viewing.

What are the odds that someone just guessing would hit on a number registered to a red, second generation Range Rover Sport? What are the odds that that same number, almost certainly a vanity plate, would have just recently been reregistered to another second generation Range Rover Sport?

The dealership is Vauxhall, so OK to mention the brand in this case. ;)

The brand of new cars sold at a dealership doesn't tell us anything about the car that started the fire. Dealerships take in trades all the time. Look at any used car lot at a dealership - it will be filled with a wide variety of marques. In the back there will often be more deemed unworthy of the used lot and relegated for wholesale.

He owns Theleme, registered in the Cayman Islands.

Nope.

Look. Sunak's firm is registered in the Cayman Islands...

Not his firm.

...so nobody knows anything about its structure or financial statements. It is referred to in places as a hedge fund entity.

Irrelevant to the notion of a trust.

On the Ministerial Register of Interests he has listed it as a 'blind trust'.

You still have no clue what a blind trust is.

This is a generic term and not a legal one in this context.

According to whom? Parliament's description of the reporting categories seems to have a pretty good definition of it.

He is just using the term as used by others.

According to whom?

A 'Trustee' relationship is a legal principle...

Correct, but it does not exist legally in the manner you suppose. You can't demonstrate that you know anything about this. You're conflating company stewardship with trusteeship, and just making up rules for how you think it works or should work.

...and as no UK court has any jurisdiction over companies registered in the Caymans I really cannot see that Sunak has a formal legally recognised Trustee in place.

That's not a thing. You don't know what a blind trust is. You don't know what constitutes a trustee. You are still trying to conflate business ownership and operation with a trusteeship.

More likely he has hired stewards to run his company.

Or more likely he does't actually own the company you attribute to him, and you're talking through your hat. Company stewardship has bugger all to do with trusteeship.

Otherwise, why else would he refuse to reveal who the appointed Trustee is?

Begging the question.

There are different types of trust.

Wealth management is not relevant to your claim.

My area was more to do with Trustees in Bankruptcy and that type of Trustee is done via a petition in the High Court.

Yes, a debtor may be compelled to enter into a trusteeship agreement if he petitions a court for debt relief through bankruptcy. That is not relevant here, and does not establish that trusts in general require court action.

AIUI a 'blind trust arrangement' on the Ministerial Register looks to be more of a euphemism, which usually just means you have stepped away from your potential conflicts of interests and is simply an informal style, although I dare say some might formalize it...

I have given you the definition and legal formulation of a blind trust several times, and the terms and conventions have been discussed. What you imagine otherwise to be the case is irrelevant.

I am sceptical it is truly blind...

You're free to believe what you want. However, if your argument is premised on the notion that Sunak knows his interests and is using his office to benefit them, you need evidence that it has occurred, not merely speculation that it might.

...as he refuses to reveal the name of this ‘trustee’.

Inconsequential.

There is no supervision by parliament over this generic designation and one has to suspect the aim is to conceal...

No, one doesn't have to suspect that.

...as he could just as equally be completely transparent about his business interests, being a public servant in high office, whilst still ‘stepping away’ from them.

No, something is not suspicious simply because you can imagine a different way it could have been done.

Stacking in astronomical photography indeed reduces noise. But the problem here is not noise. It's optical dispersion and scattering—blur. There are deblur algorithms, but as blur is non-invertible, they require considerable skill to determine their parameters.

(I've also ran Topaz Video on the video clip as well and that can't (not really surprising) resolve anything more that I can with a single frame.)

You are right in principle that may return more useful information in the image and what would be needed is to extract each frame and then by hand line up and merge and make judgement calls on each frame. However, I don't think it will bring out much more useful information as the resolution is so small, the video reports it is 1920x1080 (idiot iPhone user who took it in portrait) but the actual image size is only 600x1064 and the numberplate is around 40x10 pixels so there is little information, even without the smoke, to pickup on.
