The vast majority of his wealth is tied up in Tesla stocks which a) are still overvalued despite a 40% fall in the last few years and b) his stocks are heavily leveraged to fund his spendthrift lifestyle and prop up his other companies which universally are financial basket cases.
 
i'd imagine being overleveraged and taking such massive losses on twitter is why he's trying so hard that he'd risk tesla in order to get that gigantic stock option bonus

Peterson's tweet is the kind of claim that anyone who actually believed that Musk was actually promoting Free Speech or meritocracy should do a double take about and would be rather unlikely to tout. For those who only ever used "Free Speech" or meritocracy as an euphemism for much darker things, though, touting it is quite to be expected.
