I don't recall commenting on Rowling's literary abilities, but for the record: I think she's a competent, if somewhat clunky writer. I would never describe her as 'skilled', but that's just my opinion, and matters not a jot.

As to whether I want her jailed? No, I don't want her jailed, I'd much rather she and her bigotry just faded into obscurity. I don't think that her fame and/or wealth should put her above the law. By all means do all that is within your power to change the law if you think it's wrong, but while it remains the law, then it must be applied equally.
Her "bigotry" was main stream when you were raised. If I have that wrong tell me how.

When do you think I was raised, and why do you think that?

Aside from that, an idea being mainstream at one point in time, then later coming to be recognised as bigoted, is not new, surprising, or bad.

Consider how the British (for example) at one time considered black Africans as lesser creatures, and had no qualms about enslaving them, and trading them as commodities.

Over time this bigoted mindset lost favour, and fell out of the mainstream.

The same has been true of formerly mainstream bigoted attitudes to many people: homosexuals, Catholics, women, the left-handed, Jews...

We call this progress. I think it is a good thing.

Sorry, I know I've already replied to this, but this really is the weirdest argument I've seen here (and I used to engage with Kyoon).

As I said before, you really do post some silly things.

That is a detail, should JK Rowling expect arrest, should the possibility even be a twinkle in anyone's eye, or is netting a few transphobes as bycatch legitimate?

It's a detail pretty critical if you are talking about the new laws in Scotland.

Ok sure, but the substantial question is, should JK Rowling be arrested on April 1 because of the new law?
Is this good that a British women's rights activist be captured by a law designed by a man from a deeply mysoginist religion?

Why is she planning on trying to break the law? Certainly nothing she has written about trans people falls under the remit of the new laws.

And when I was born male (practicing) homosexuality was completely illegal and people were still being sent to prison for consensual sex between adults, when I was growing up queer bashing was something the queers deserved, as the Chief constable of Manchester put it homosexuals were "swirling around in a human cesspit of their own making" you'll have to forgive me for not finding your "argument" compelling.

She has a non crime hate incident logged by India Willougby for misgendering, I am sure you are over this one. The new law supposedly goes further, or people would not advise she leaves Scotland.

Her "bigotry" is exclusively trans related, and to their demands in sport, changing rooms, refuges and prisons. She presumably opposes medicating minors.
It is not bigotry against gays. My point to Junkshop is they were raised when transphobia did not exist. That is my bet. Homophobia may have depending on age.

The Scottish law curiously catches so called transphobes.
This is all paradoxical in a muslim context, since trans is fine, but homosexual is not. The reality is homophobia has no legitimacy, but transphobia does. It is all about who can be harmed.
I think of public facing people like Julie Bindel, Kathleen Stock, Douglas Murray and Andrew Doyle. All same sex attracted, and all "transphobes" by designation of Trans activists. All are endangered by the first ministers law.

Meanwhile, two more ministers have resigned and Gullis is deputy chair of the Conservative Party. Because that stopped Anderson defecting

That's a silly analysis, worthy of Rick from the Yong Ones

I do think that Starmer is a bit overcautious. But that's because the stakes are so high and a Labour leader is vulnerable to the right wing press and smear campaigns. He knows that he's not going to be able to set the agenda or get much done in opposition.

I think I'll stick with what the party leadership are loudly proclaiming to the world with their rowing back of every economic policy positition differentiating them from the tories.

That's not what you said before:

Anyway, we're drifting into treacherous waters here, and in danger of losing sight of the topic, so I think we should leave it there.

This is where this guy has dragged Scotland to.

Agree punishment by process is the concern. Check out @CFFarrow latest post about her arrest by Surrey Police Imv powerful SG Trans lobby looking for a high profile arrest from Day 1. The LA and CC will be discussing already. If I was @jk_rowling I would not be in Scotland.
That's be Farrow the transphobic nutcase and online harasser?

And this is why I am an absolutestist when it comes to free speech. You can always twist the laws to go after your political opponents.
 Meanwhile, back in the Real WorldTM where words have actions people are still being harassed, assaulted and murdered.
