He's back! George Santos is running again.

Santos is running for New York's First Congressional District, outer Long Island. Previously a swing district (which Obama won in 2008 and 2012), the district was redrawn in 2012 and has been considered 'Republican' ever since.

Santos 'tweeted' his announcement while the State of the Union was ongoing. Santos was there, part of the time seated next to Matt Gaetz. The always classy Santos wrote:

Of course he's running.

He ran five marathons in a row, in drag, (used campaign donations to pay for his running gear and the entry fee), under an identity that he stole, in the colors of a school he never attended. He dedicated his run to his mother who did not die in the 9/11 attacks, to the veteran he ripped off, and the bogus animal charity he set up.

I just read a New Yorker magazine profile about Matt Gaetz. The writer interviewed Gaetz and associates, personal friends, etc. The consensus was, Gaetz is very immature -- he's often described as being like a 16-year-old -- whose major focus in life is getting attention.

Gaetz is in a completely safe red zone where anyone with the 'R' next to his name is the assured winner. This should worry Gaetz because the other Republicans now hate him and as soon as he they realize removing him would mean his replacement is a another GOPpper he is doomed.

Santos only got elected because he made a lot of lies during his campaign and the media decided to quiet about it. More to the point he got elected because the NY State Democratic Party was stunningly inept and let multiple elections go neglected (they essentially are why there is any GOP majority after 2022). Santos faces an uphill battle against a Republican incumbent who doesn't have a nationwide reputation for theft, lying and being kicked out of congress (yet).

That's the Hamptons and the North Shore. It was specifically redistricted to be Republican. That was Lee Zeldin's district before he tried to run for governor. The usual Democrat tactic of dumping a ton of resources on a diet Republican to flip a 10+ red district will just burn money, like it almost always does.

Let LaLota debase himself fending off Santos in a "who is the Trumpiest" contest, win some county seats, and build momentum for the next round.

His dad a big shot in the Florida GQP. Any attempts to bounce him would cause a civil war in the district that would weaken the party worse than the frat boy's antics. They are better off waiting until he tries to run for governor.

"After the embarrassing showing in the house I have reflected and decided that I can no longer be part of the Republican Party… The Republican Party continues to lie and swindle its voter base. I in good conscience cannot affiliate myself with a party that stands for nothing and falls for everything. I am officially suspending my petitioning in #NY01 to access the ballot as a Republican and will be [filing] to run as an independent… I will take my Ultra MAGA/Trump supporting values to the ballot in November as an Independent," Santos wrote on X. Obviously politically provoked criminal charges, it shouldn't be right that criminal trials are used to prevent a politician from campaigning, politicians should also have absolute immunity from prosecution for crimes they committed when holding office.

I'd love to believe this is where the MAGA crowd is headed, outraged by their own party to the point of leaving it, but I'm not holding my breath.

This is from a CBS news report from last October when the indictments against Santos were first announced. In an interview:

He walked through several of the counts against him, including explosive allegations that he had made unauthorized charges on his donors' credit cards to support his campaign. Federal prosecutors say in one instance, Santos racked up $15,800 in charges on a campaign contributor's credit card. Santos claimed he did not know who these donors are and is working to determine their identities. Asked by CBS News if he plans to make them whole once he learns their identities, he replied, "Well, I mean, me making them whole means I am assuming guilt, right? So, I have no intention of going out of my way." CBS News link

He has no "intention of going out of his way" for any of these supporters. Why should he, what'd they ever do for him?

It looks like his defense will be, the allegations may be true but it wasn't him that did it. It was staff or vendors. When asked by a reporter if "the buck stops with you," Santos answered, "The buck stops with me is an exaggerated term..."

He's MAGA.

Frankly, I think Santos is more than just MAGA. He exhibits many of the same traits that Trump does which indicate NPD: pathological lying, lack of conscience, needs massive attention, lack of empathy, and a sense of entitlement.
