George was at the State of the Union and has now announced he is running for Congress again. And like Boebert. In an entirely different district.

Former members of the House retain "Floor privileges", which means, among other things, they can attend the State of the Union Address.

The seat he's running for is currently held by Nick LaLota, one of the Republicans who pushed to get Santos expelled.

Even though Santos was expelled, he retains lifetime floor privileges.

But that may change.

Today Congressman Torres announced plans to pass introduce the “GEORGE” rule. “Getting Expelled Officially Revokes Guaranteed Entry” Rule.

This would restrict any former member who has been expelled from returning to the House floor.

I must thank you, however, because I would not have looked more closely at the following had I not gone looking for the underlying financial facts of Santos' reelection campaign:

There are a couple rabbit holes I need to follow down related to all this. I'll start new rabbit hole threads in the next few days if said threads do not yet appear or get bumped should they already exist.

Depends how it's worded but legislation cannot be written for one person specifically.

That applies to a lot of individual legislators but donors with big money, especially big dark money, are looking at the bigger picture—majorities for example.

It's not. But he would be the only person affected by it at this time. I think only 6 members in history would be affected by such a rule.

I believe that if George wasn't gay, he wouldn't have been expelled. The GOP would have kept him. But they are always waging their culture war. Their constituents will accept a lying cheating grifter. But being a homosexual and a drag queen, that ain't going to fly.
 
Santos is a pathological liar and obviously has mental problems. Normally, that would prevent him from being elected. But, in today's MAGA word...those are qualities.
 
Santos is running for New York's First Congressional District, outer Long Island. Previously a swing district (which Obama won in 2008 and 2012), the district was redrawn in 2012 and has been considered 'Republican' ever since.

Santos 'tweeted' his announcement while the State of the Union was ongoing. Santos was there, part of the time seated next to Matt Gaetz. The always classy Santos wrote:
