Cont: Musk buys Twitter II

Which is kinda the whole point.

He not only bought a sinking company,
He didn't buy a sinking company. It was on its way back to profitability.

but also saddled it with some MASSIVE debt payments from the purchase. Good luck to him to get it back on track. The fact that he seems to be a tinkerbellend (combination of Tinerbell, and the brit slang 'bellend' for a dick-head... you know... bell-shaped end of *ahem* SOMETHING;)) who seems to think he'll literally disappear if peoples stop talking about him for a day, also doesn't help.

It might not be as easy as "fire all moderators and let every ass-clown post on it" as it may have seemed. As with several other platforms (including YT's several waves of "adpocalypse"), it may turn out that advertisers may not want to be associated with just about every bellend on the internet.

They don't. That's why they are leaving.

Yes, well, that was me understating it. I know a lot already backed out :p

As for his being a bad man or not, I think the funny part is that it's not even that. He's just paying the price for being a tinkerbellend. He thought he'd get a lot of publicity by announcing some half-baked sensationalist idea (in this case that he'll buy Twitter and restore free speech, but it wasn't the first) and then quietly back out when it no longer generates views. It turned out he can't back out of a contract past a certain point.

USA Today had a front page story about how every time "Libs of Tiktok" posts, threats against her targets increases. So naturally, "Libs of Tiktok" xeeted a photo of her holding up a copy of the paper, while wearing a ****-eating grin.

Musk's response? The reply: "Congratulations."

Musk has gone from “Is he a real life Tony Stark?” to “Is he a real life Homer Simpson?”

I’m sure there’s an episode where Homer gets decent looking hair implants, too.

Speaking of the real life Tony Stark, this guy is like two weeks away from storing his urine in bottles around the office.

Nah, the way he absolutely needs to be talked about, he'll probably just pee in the humidifier :p

i don't like the tony stark comparison anyway. tony stark was a pretty flawed piece of **** that, at the end of the day, put on a robot suit and killed the bad guys. elon musk only does half of that.

there is, however, a simpsons episode where homer's brother owns a car company and lets him design a car and it's so ridiculous it puts his company under. so, you know, you make due.

I used Twitter on and off for many years and I just had to look up Rachel Levine. I must have been using a fake Twitter she did a switcheroo on me or something.

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/nov/16/elon-musk-antisemitic-tweet-adl
A tweet posted by @breakingbaht on Wednesday night read: “Jewish communties [sic] have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them.”

The billionaire owner and CTO of X, formerly Twitter, responded the same evening: “You have said the actual truth.”

He's using the bottom of the barrel to keep digging now.

Wow. Trying to figure out what he even means by that.

Which "Jewish communities"? What "dialectical hatred"?

In another reply, he wrote: “I am deeply offended by ADL’s messaging and any other groups who push de facto anti-white racism or anti-Asian racism or racism of any kind.” Musk has feuded with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) before, threatening to sue over its accounting of hate speech on his social media network.

Ironically, or perhaps not, his "feud" with the ADL was supposedly that
Elon Musk said:
Since the acquisition, The @ADL
has been trying to kill this platform by falsely accusing it & me of being anti-Semitic

Now someone says something obviously anti-Semitic and he calls it "the actual truth".

"Dialectical hatred" doesn't even particularly make sense. I assume it's just an attempt to advance the (((Cultural Marxism))) conspiracy theory.

Musk can still surprise with how exhaustively he can **** the bed.

There seems to be something teflon about him in the same way as Trump simply due to frequency and amount of his BS. People get numb to it.

If the CEO of Disney (or pick your company) said something like this publicly, I think it would be seen as a huge problem and he or she would likely be ousted. Twitter and SpaceX are not publicly traded companies, but Tesla is. When Musk does it people have come to expect it, so they discount it.

Musk has pretty well insulated himself from accountability at Tesla. I doubt all that many shareholders are discounting his open support of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, particularly if its costing them money, but they might not be able to do much about it.

It's true that almost anyone else would be out on their ass after making comments like these, but that's the advantage of inculcating a cult of personality, I suppose.

I rather like John Scalzi's take:
Elon Musk, the most unfathomably insecure and pathetic billionaire the world has ever seen, has gone mask-off antisemite, and that means that while I had already reduced my participation on the former Twitter, now I’m off it entirely. I’m keeping the account so that no one can swoop in and take a screenname that’s been associated with me for the last fifteen years, but no more posting, and no more participation. Until and unless the service is sold to someone who isn’t Musk (and possibly even then, depending), I’m out, I’m through, I’m done.?
