Cont: Today's Mass Shooting (part 3)

We can't really talk about mass-shootings unless we come to a common understanding of what it actually means.
I literally can't care whether you call it a "mass shooting" or a "spree killing" or a "rampage killing" or what-the-****-ever. Too many people are being shot because there are too many guns.

When are you going to actually do something about it?

Yes! You personally. You have the right and civic duty to vote, right? Vote for pro-gun control candidates. Write to your representative. Hold a ******* sign. Do something.

Every American citizen who does not vote for gun control is complicit in gun deaths, and I'm tired of beating around the bush about that.

Oh, it's a competition to see which race can stack up the most bodies, is it? Is there like a national league or something? So glad your true intentions have been made clear, then!

I'd think every American who votes for progressive mayors and soft-on-crime prosecutors are really the problem here. We already have enough gun laws.

The White boys have always been a bit soft.

We can't really talk about mass-shootings unless we come to a common understanding of what it actually means.

The common understanding is an incident where 3 or 4 or more people are shot, whether they are killed or not.

More than one person being shot by another at a time, is common in the USA, a daily event. Other countries, less so. In the UK, there is a mass shooting once a decade or so.

Why should their death be irrelevant?

Why should their death be irrelevant?

It's not, that is the point. Even one mass shooting a decade results in reform in the UK. The Firearms Licensing Act has two amendments in response to mass shootings. The last mass shooting in Plymouth has resulted in a tightening of licensing enquiries, when it was found the police force responsible for the licence, had a poorly run department.

Only Americans would try to dodge the problem by quibbling over what should be counted as a mass shooting. Even the present definition does not include instances where in one incident, multiple shots were fired at people, but by luck, no one was hit. I bet if that was added into the statistics, there would be a mass shooting in the USA, on average, every few hours.

You don't have enough effective gun laws and you have too many chicken **** laws. Well, you do have one effective law and that is the Second Amendment. Unfortunately, it has the wrong effect.

What you need is gun laws that take guns out of the hands of people likely to do harm to others (or themselves) with them, not laws that say you can have only 20 round magazines or you have to wait for a bit till you get a gun. You need effective laws, not papering over the cracks ******** laws.

The only competition is reality versus narrative. The narrative is that white boys with AR-15s commit most of the mass shootings. Reality is the opposite.

As these statements began to roll out, make sure you peep which one of your representatives actually calls this what it is: an act of violent, White nationalism and domestic terrorism.

This is a ' senseless tragedy', this is a targeted, intentional act of white violence that we see regularly in this country. We are no stranger to angry white men with guns. This happens all the time, and will continue to happen all the time.

Most of our federal delegation has been in power since I was in elementary school – if they wanted to enact gun laws, they would, but they likely never will because institution of government benefits from this type of sanctioned violence.

We see it with the Nazi marches in the push for Maine to become a white ethno-state. We see it with policing and public safety. We see it with the criminalization of homelessness and racist, xenophobic rhetoric towards our marginalized groups. We see this type of angry, violent, whiteness every single day.

I'm so exhausted by the need to identify. "He lost his job" "he was getting a divorce" "he had issues with mental health" etc ec etc.

The motive is he's white, he has a gun, and he can enact terror and violence on innocent people because the world has awarded him the privilege to do so.

The above is narrative. It comes from Portland, Maine city councilwoman Victoria Pelletier who fancies herself a community activist. Completely delusional and a very common belief here in the states. She posted this shortly after the Maine shooting. Mass shootings that involve white boys with AR-15s are relatively uncommon compared to all other mass shootings.

I'll be following up with some reality shortly.
