Luton Airport Car Park Fire

I used to get mine from Roger the Shrubbist, but lately I've been patronizing Kuwabatake Sanjuro. He's a mulberry specialist.

I think he's a friend of Master Shinjuku, mighty shin warrior for whom the Mountains of Hinshau cleft in twain for his passage to allow. He's my goto guy for air conditioning.

Historical evidence shows - if it does not agree with Vixen's preconceived (and wrong) ideas it will be a coverup, and a new investigation will be demanded.
She's certainly reluctant to answer the question.

Information is definitely being withheld, for reasons we are not yet apprised of. Could be legal, could be political, could be government interference, could be an ongoing police issue.

That is not the same thing as lying, corruption or misrepresentation.

Officials have not withheld the information about the engine type of the vehicle that caught fire. They're either giving correct information about that, or they're giving incorrect information. "Withholding information" is no longer an option.

Do you reject the hypothesis that authorities are giving incorrect information about the engine type?

That happened to my friend's diesel ute last year. Very scary. The engine raced to max revs and he couldn't turn it off! The whole vehicle was engulfed in thick white smoke, and all he could do was jump out and wait for the engine to destroy itself. A similar thing happened to my brother with a diesel generator. Luckily in that case it ran out of oil before it could self-destruct.

I don't think that's what happened here though. More likely it was a fuel leak ignited by friction or an electrical short.

I have watched a few YouTube videos of gas cars catching fire in the engine bay, and it almost always shoots flames out the bottom first before melting the hood.

That's the reason I keep a fire Exstinghisher powder type in every Turbo Diesel I operate spray it in the Air Cleaner it chokes the engine down and kills it.

I'm more interested in whether you will believe the final report when it comes out. Will you accept it only if it says the vehicle was a hybrid? Or will you accept it even if it says the vehicle was a plain diesel engine?

Nothing to do with 'belief'. Facts based on evidence is all that is needed.

How is a statement on the fire service's own website a 'secondhand statement'?

https://www.bedsfire.gov.uk/news/london-luton-airport-car-park-fire

Are they lying?

What is your fixation with Andrew Hopkinson? (And it's Chief Fire Officer, not Fire Chief Officer, btw.). Do you think he's the only person able to speak on behalf of the Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service? How do you know he's only made one statement to the press?

Show me a second press release in his own words in full stating model and make of car. (Not some secondary source sub-edited précis.)

We can't expect a scientist like Vixen to consider mere evidence.

The 'fire chief' has spoken, and he has cast the spell of 'pending confirmation'.

Now the only thing which can break that enchantment is if the same chief fire officer goes to the same spot at the same phase of the moon and walks three times around the press conference chanting "confirmation, confirmation...". Until that happens all we can possibly say is 'I reckon it was probably a hybrid and all the authorities are lying about it because they're all in the pay of Big Battery'. That's science. End of.

I think you'll find those are zooterkin's words.

Well, the only foreseeable evidence you're going to get is an official report. Could that evidence satisfy you?

It seems unlikely it will contradict all the information released so far about the type of car involved.

Even if hybrid cars eventually reveal themselves to be many times more likely to catch fire than other types, there's no good reason this particular event can't just be a conventional car fire. So, if the report fails to confirm the story you want it to tell, do you think you will accept it or stick to your guns and insist this had to be the kind of fire you wanted it to be instead?

Surely, if the driver wanted to speak to the press, he could. Do you have any evidence that there is any sort of gag?

The police have not identified the driver, but as far as I know, it's quite usual NOT to do so. The driver hasn't spoken to the press, but I should think that any good lawyer would advise him not to do interviews (since they can only harm his interests).

So, aside from the fact he hasn't been interviewed, what evidence of a "gag" have you?

The UK differs from the USA in that the UK has very strict Contempt of Court laws. A newspaper's lawyers in the UK will generally advise the newspapers not to publish anything that might be subjudice or would prejudice a court case. All the stuff in the press about Trump and his prehearing legal shenanigans likely wouldn't be reported on in the UK until the actual hearing, were it a UK court case. As an example, the was a recent serial killer, first arrested 2017 but wasn't charged until 2021. The case only came to court 2022 and that was the first time the public got to learn the details of her serial murders. So even if the 'arrested man' did approach the papers they wouldn't dare publish anything that might upset the Crown Prosecution Service or risk the case being a mistrial due to prejudice. They won't publish his name until he is actually charged.

LOL. See what I mean? It's got to be the same fire officer, and it's got to be another press conference, and it's got to be the make and model of the car, not just the type of powertrain, otherwise the magic spell cannot be broken.

Okay, you haven't also specified the phase of the moon, I'll give you that.

In what way is publishing the information unambiguously on their own website not a satisfactory expression of what the fire brigade know about it? In what way is that less official than one officer speaking off the cuff to the press? That makes no sense.

What has this to do with your attempted obfuscation of the type of car that ignited at Luton airport? Which remains a diesel Range Rover....

It is 'thought' to be a Range Rover. Remember, these images haven't been authenticated. The one from the back is probably legitimate but the other, supposedly from the front of the car, with the number plate, only popped up on an unknown Twitter account some days after the fire. I don't know how much these things can be photoshopped but I would treat all unconfirmed reports with care.

See also the News blackout in Birmingham stabbing event thread, in which multiple press reports and a police press release weren't evidence that there wasn't a news blackout.

I don't see that thread as a display of alpha superiority as the posters might think but rather, it tells me they are driven by some feeling of inadequacy, relieved by hurling abuse at another.

Is it just a coincidence that the section that falls is directly beneath the burning car?

Or is there no correlation between it and the floor collapse?

A section of fire-weakened floor with a one or two ton car on top of it seems likely to fall before a section which has not, ceteris parabus. A car standing on a fire-weakened floor seems more likely than average to be on fire. Do you think otherwise?

When you say the burning car, are you assuming the car you saw fall was the car that began the fire rather than one of the many other burning cars?
