A social milieu wherein people lie to each other about academic and social issues is alien to me. How bizarre. I don't consider police of fire chiefs to be liars. How odd to have the type of social circle or background where it would be considered normal to believe the police or other upright citizens are liars.

Regardless of whether Vixen is saying the police are lying, "some" people are. At first, I - and others - thought the way that the OP was worded Vixen was not endorsing that belief. I think it is now clear that she is.

What I'm missing is why the police would be trying to down play the "EV angle". Is the police pension fund heavily invested in Tesla? Is there a Lithium mine on the outskirts of Luton? Is Luton being considered for the next big Li battery factory? Are the police in Luton just climate activist Greta Thunberg fans?

I can't speak for GB, but in the US of A the vast majority of local police departments would not be beholden to the interests of the federal government on the climate issue.

People saw a hidden motive behind the silence as to the make and model. Had it been a Ford Corsair 1968, there likely would have been immediate advice to other owners to take this model, if they had one, to the nearest garage to be inspected for defects.

Read the OP again. It's not a case of information not being given out immediately. It's about incorrect information being given (for which there is no evidence, of course).

You are claiming the police and fire service are lying about the car where the fire started. If they weren't coerced, then how were they induced to lie to the public?

I would call it 'diplomacy'. Mr. Hopkinson chose his words carefully so that he wouldn't be lying. It was a prepared statement. Lawyers will have looked over it. The Home Office or whoever is responsible for that department will have advised on the issue.

It is rather like the government declining to declare there will be a food shortage in a certain area to prevent there being a run on the shops or withhold the details of an 'ongoing incident', all for logistical, political or organisational reasons. Calling it 'lying' just sounds coarse.

Actually, the reference was a satirical one, alluding to Mr. Sunak and his wife, Ms. Murty, financially benefitting each other from their business, familial and occupational status*. As you know, she is the daughter of a billionaire and managed to get advantagous PPE contracts and funding via government schemes during the Covid crisis.

*This in no way implies that Rishi Sunak and his wife benefitted from giving Tata (owners of Jaguar Land Rover) the £4bn contract to make lithium-ion batteries for cars. Although according to Shakespeare, jesters may also be prophets.

What does this mean? The identity of the brand has never been in doubt. What business relationships are you talking about?

No, the model and make has not been formally announced, so for all you know there are a load of potentially defective Land Rovers out there. For once, I couldn't help seeing the anti-woke brigade had a point. If the thing was defective, just say so. Recall the make. The fact it was a Land Rover and there might be government interests should not be an excuse for turning a blind eye to public safety.

You were previously hectoring us about the number of weeks of painstaking investigation a previous case required to establish the exact cause of a car fire. Now you can't understand why you can't immediately be told precisely how this diesel car caught fire. Pick a lane.

Why would one fire caused by some part of a conventional 12V lead acid battery electrical system be embarrassing for a company moving into the completely different field of high voltage lithium batteries?

In the case of the Cork car park fire, the driver was interviewed virtually straight away explaining that as she got out of her Opel Zafira, the thing caught fire. It took eight weeks to even remove the car and a further two years or so to establish liability as the shopping centre that was destroyed also sued.

It's OK. I once had a boss who used to bring me in 'brain teasers' every day because he wanted to show me that I wasn't as clever as I thought (in his mind; I never told him I was). I thought the Luton Airport Car Park fire was interesting. Others clearly believe there is nothing to see here. If people feel threatened, nothing I can do about it. <shrug>.

Information is definitely being withheld, for reasons we are not yet apprised of. Could be legal, could be political, could be government interference, could be an ongoing police issue.
