Luton Airport Car Park Fire

"Ask the owner" can be a cunning way to determine the make and model of a car that's been in a fire. I wonder if the fire service tried it?

Of course it did. But the media are keeping it quiet, aren't they? Leaving people on Twitter to guess the licence plate and look it up on DVLA.

Yes, the media reporting that it was a diesel car is a really effective way of keeping it quiet.

AHA!!! I note you are 'skillfully' trying to change the context to make it seem you will 'win the debate' in any which way you can.

... Says the person who just yesterday tried to inject doubt by attempting to shift the argument from whether we can be sure what kind of car caught fire to whether we know how the fire started.

AHA!!! I note you are 'skillfully' trying to change the context to make it seem you will 'win the debate' in any which way you can. I see you are a seasoned game player ruthlessly going after the 'I told you so', Cup. I'll raise you Mornington Crescent.

More bollocks.

You've been trying to insinuate there was a possibility that the car where the fire started was an EV or hybrid, despite early reports saying it was a diesel. The issue at question is not how the fire started, but in which vehicle. It has now been confirmed that it was a diesel. You're the one trying to change the context so that somehow you're not wrong.

The bod Full Fact spoke to can't have been in possession of the full facts, given that it was several days before the Fire Brigade could even enter the building safely.

If the Cork car park fire took ten weeks to ascertain, it certainly can't be known what caused the Luton Airport one as of yet.
So we have switched from claiming it's suspicious they don't say it's definitely a diesel to telling everyone to be patient, the investigation has barely begun?

We're not debating the cause, just the type of car involved. Plain EV, hybrid, or plain liquid fuel.

NEVER OPEN THE BONNET IF YOU SUSPECT A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT!

allowing more air flow can cause a flare up, straight in your face.

(Sorry for the capitals, but this is a mistake that can literally kill.

No. Vixen knows the best about everything. All her statements are properly researched, linked and referenced (unless she writes "IMO"). If Vixen says that opening the hood is the correct procedure then it must be, no arguments possible!

Never heard of it. I did see a film which was entirely about a motorist being chased by a lorry. Really scary. Until late night presenter after the film, whose job it was to close down TV for the night, 'Diddy' Hamilton, made a quip about how he was terrified of getting home safely after seeing that and then I creased up laughing at the sheer comedy of the whole thing. When horror turns to comedy.

Maybe Netflix has something in the pipeline of spontaneously exploding EV's in a chain reaction, spreading horror and much frothing at the mouth as big corporate oil executives plot against gangs of EV manufacturers determined to foist their evil JIT products on the world. Japanese, as they are good at that sort of thing. So the oil executives skulk around setting fire to EV's whilst the baddies seek to suppress the news of mass destruction of car parks as a result thereof.

As P.J. Denver also has explained, the Good Omens scene in question concerns a character, Crowley, ignoring reality by the sheer power of his imagination.

From what I have seen of roadside fires, probably lift up the bonnet to let the thick black fumes escape and await the road side assistance.

In the case of an EV or HEV fire it might be wise to call the fire brigade immediately.

Lifting the bonnet is the last thing you should do for any fire. It's a good way to take your face off.

It doesn't matter what type of car it is.
At most release the latch so the bonnet pops up and direct a fire extinguisher underneath.

If you haven't got one move away.

It was part of her little joke, along with getting roadside assistance and delaying the 999 call.

If you don't lift the bonnet how will the thick black fumes "escape"? They need to escape.

Careful, strawmen are prone to spontaneously combust.
It seems you have no clue what a strawman fallacy actually is. Please point out the specific strawman fallacy in my post.

Fact: the fire happened circa 11 Oct. It was too intense for the fire brigade to go in. All they have so far is s CCTV camera and the word of the car owner and possibly another witness who claims she saw a fire extinguisher on the path suggesting someone had been attempting to put out a fire.
None of which supports you. The camera evidence shows a Land Rover that is typically diesel powered. The investigators had plenty of time by the 16th the find that vehicle and confirm that it was diesel powered.

If the Cork fire took ten weeks to confirm the cause why are you so adamant we already know what caused the Luton airport one?
We aren't arguing the cause of the fire. Please try to keep up. It may take some time to determine what exactly started the fire, if that's even possible, but the vehicle that caught fire has already been identified.

Why haven't the tabloids and the news channels grabbed the driver of the said vehicle for an interview, or the other direct eye witnesses, as they normally do?
Probably because the name of the person is no one's business. That person hasn't been shown to have committed a crime, so why would investigators release that person's name to the public? That would be a breach of that person's privacy, akin to releasing the name of an assault victim. Personally, if that happened with my vehicle, and the police or fire investigators publicly released my name, resulting in harassment by a bunch of moronic Daily Mail commenters and conspiracy theorists, I'd be pretty pissed off.

And I'll take the fact that you completely ignored my two questions as confirmation that you have no answers.

A lot of these people have attended courses relating to the mechanics of a car. My last car dealer was some kind of graduate in the subject; he knew everything; all the latest gadgets and safety features, etcetera. I am into my second hybrid car. I wasn't aware in particular that this type of car is likely to burn more fiercely if it did catch fire. Far from going into hysterical potty-mouthed emotional meltdown, I am glad that this issue has now come to my attention via the Luton fire because IMV it is better to know than not know. Should my car start burning, I know to park it particularly safely and to treat it seriously.

As I said, I worked at dealerships in the earlier '90s. I've seen those "courses" first hand. Knowing what all the buttons and knobs do isn't equivalent to being an expert mechanic. The top salesman at one of those dealerships knew all the sales points, but that didn't make him an expert on how any of it worked. One time he had a flat battery and I had to show him how to jump start his car without electrocuting himself or causing a spark near the battery.

Watching your attempts to validate the suspicions of random, unqualified commenters on a news article, while also seeking excuses to dismiss the statements of qualified experts is, to say the least, amusing.

Double bollocks.
1. Not true, the iniial vehicle could easily have been determined via video imagery.
2. Untrue.

Just stop this pathetically silly lying and accept you were, and are, wrong.

Or video imagery, or records of which car was in which bay.....

I want to know where these backstreet garages are that perform illegal EV conversions because who wouldn't want to turn their car electric in a way that meant you didn't benefit on road tax and it became impossible to MOT, tax or insure.

Presumably they use old vacuum cleaner motors....

...The investigation into the cause of the fire continues, but it has been determined that the vehicle that first caught fire was a diesel car. Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s fire investigation team will be working closely with Bedfordshire Police to get a better understanding of what happened on Tuesday evening, and why...
