I dunno. I’ve binge watched To Catch A Predator too many times. The M.O. of the predators and the behavior of teachers who want to have sexual secrets with kids seems a bit too close.

Yes God ******* forbid your little Timmy get proper sex ed in school or anything like that.

Proper sex ed happens with the advice and consent of the parents, with transparency and accountability for the educator.

Proper sex ed is never a conspiracy between teacher and student to keep sexual conversations between them a secret from their parents. That's called grooming. If you don't like public school teachers being tarred with the "groomer" brush, don't advocate for literal grooming in the name of "proper sex ed".

Have you considered that your media consumption habits have little to do with reality?

And we're back in the "There's a secret deep state pedophile ring" QANON crap.

Fine, go shoot up a pizza parlor to rescue the children in the child sex dungeon then.

But why this intense need for non-parental adults to be intimately involved with a child's sexuality? Where does this come from? Why does this need to be in school? Just stick with reading, math, and science.

Ok groomer.

The only people that benefit from keeping children totally oblivious to the existence of sex and related topics are the pedophiles who hope to exploit children and their naivety.

Keeping kids in the dark about sexual topics is a pro-child abuse position.

No, we're back to "some schools are advocating for policies that would have teachers keeping secrets from parents, without transparency, accountability, or oversight; this is a terrible idea for obvious reasons, and if you weren't blinded by the perverse and bigoted trans orthodoxy you'd see it too".

What exactly is the QAnon crap? Are you referring to this earlier claim?

It's way more likely that a parent is going to have an unreasonably negative reaction to their child being trans then there is for teachers to "conspire" to keep it from parents for... reasons.

If so, that's a really odd characterization. It's not unlikely for teachers to conspire to keep transition from parents. It's the explicit written policy of a number of schools to do exactly that. Nobody is even denying that it happens.

As for why, well, the charitable interpretation is that they do it to try to protect vulnerable children. But even accepting that charitable interpretation of their motives, motives alone cannot justify actions.

And if you were referring to something else as "QANON crap", I have no idea what it is, and you should probably be more explicit.

Pretty incredible that JK Rowling's name alone has become so widely and instantly associated with transphobia. What an incredible feat of reputational suicide from someone who otherwise would have had a solid-gold legacy as a beloved children's lit writer.

Commendable that the Canadian public, generally speaking, seems to have zero interest in this UK style TERFism. Just saw this whole idiotic controversy raging on TERF Island and said "no thanks".

You seem to be begging the question that JKR has seriously damaged her reputation. I don't think that's actually been established. The people who seem to hate her the most are also the sort of people unlikely to ever even have children, so no real lost sales there. If she fades into obscurity, it won't be because of her comments on transgenderism, but because her writing isn't actually that good.

In the case that damion cited, seems the billboard company pulled the sign after receiving at least a few complaints. that's the reputational harm I was referencing.

A billboard with ideas I don't like...

You have to wonder if the billboard company was fully aware that this was intended and interpreted as a provocative message and whether they would have accepted the message if they knew. Them immediately pulling it in the face of complaints suggests not.

"Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who'll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?"

I don't know what your citing in the first bit, but Canada has decided that discrimination against trans people is against their human rights code, so it's no more legal to disparage trans people than it is to disparage people for their race, sex, ethnicity, etc. Am I supposed to be shocked by the implications of that?

Sucks to suck, take the L. It's only one country, you'll always have TERF island.

The billboard company was worried about reputational harm to themselves. That says nothing about whether JKR has actually suffered any significant harm.

And I'm not kidding about her critics not having kids. British Columbia has a birthrate of just 1.21 and falling. That is a failing culture. They won't contribute significantly to whether or not JKR is remembered in 100 years, because they mostly won't exist.
