Cont: Musk buys Twitter II

When Twixter finally dies, what will all the journalists do? They'll have to practice journalism. They won't like that.

Musk has been practically begging people today to practice "citizen journalism"...

i.e. "please post on my site".

It's pre-Musk. It was called Birdwatch at the time.

I assume that at some point it's going to get the axe, because Community Notes keeps humiliating Musk and his right wing friends by correcting their nonsense. It's also pretty funny that community notes frequently contradict the paid messages from the ever shrinking pool of Twitter advertisers.

Musk's lenders are starting to ask what happened to all their money:

Linda Yaccarino is next week planning to meet the seven banks that helped bankroll Elon Musk’s takeover of X, formerly known as Twitter, to lay out her plans to revive the struggling social media company, said people briefed on the matter.

Yaccarino, who took over as chief executive in June, is set to meet bankers at Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Barclays, MUFG, BNP Paribas, Mizuho and Société Générale on October 5.

The long-awaited meeting is a high-stakes opportunity for Yaccarino to convince X’s lenders that she has a plan to revive the social network by boosting the advertising revenue or even by moving into areas such as subscriptions and payments, the people said.

Late last year the banks received offers to buy some of the senior debt — which accounted for $6.7bn of the $12.7bn total — at just 65 cents on the dollar.

Lol

“The problem with Twitter is that it’s almost impossible to underwrite, they don’t have a business plan, they don’t have a lot of stability or diligence materials that you can really use to get a good sense of the credit risk,” one large hedge fund that held discussions with X’s lenders told the FT last year.

Meh, I had been staying away from this thread after it moved to the next iteration, but, well...

BREAKING: Musk Fires Entire 'Election Integrity Team' at X

The headline might be misleading - the official X announcement is that they've cut about half, including the head, and intends to hire more for major elections.

Musk's response to that was -

So, yeah. I really, really don't trust Musk here, for some odd reason. I have a feeling that the EU won't like this move either.

Hmmm

Linda Yaccarino said X's election integrity team was "robust and growing" after reports of job cuts.

The Elon Musk-owned social network formerly named Twitter has reportedly cut half of its election integrity team just weeks after saying it would expand the group.

Yaccarino was either lying or unaware of what the company of which she is the CEO is doing.

What a ******* mess.

Yaccarino is in an unenviable position of being a token CEO. Musk is still making all the decisions, and while Yaccarino seems to have good instincts on how a company like Twitter should run, she's constantly being undermined by Musk.

She's a fool to accept this job unless it came with a hefty compensation plan that doesn't hinge on company performance.

He's posting videos of himself firing his big gun 'from the hip while walking' at the moment.
Apparently he has a whole arsenal of weapons.

His blue tickers are wanking themselves in to a frenzy over it.

Because remember, conservatives find virtue signaling loathesome.

ETA: okay, I took "hip firing his big gun" to be perhaps a desert eagle or similar.

Nope, he's "hip firing" a .50 cal sniper rifle.

Literally. He visited the border as a publicity stunt yesterday, while wearing a cowboy hat. He got upset when part of the response was a whole bunch of people pointing out it was on backwards.

And he's saying he's had the hat for 20 years. Lol if he's been wearing it backwards all that time.

It looks like an Barrett M82, so an anti-materiel rifle rather than a sniper rifle.

Hilariously this article has the headline "Watch: Elon Musk "Hip-Firing" A Rifle Like A Pro". I'm pretty sure that the pros don't fire 50 cal rifles from the hip - not if they want to hit anything.

Given the range of those things, I would like to see what's down range. He's barely controlling it

The rifle has no sights of any kind attached. The most juvenile type of gun ownership, big gun go boom, with no interest in anything resembling marksmanship or any other sporting or practical purpose. It's the kind of thing someone who never or rarely shoots guns finds intriguing at first, but quickly becomes tedious.

Musk is becoming the stereotypical American reactionary, posting idiotic videos of himself shooting big guns he knows nothing about in between screeds about white genocide.
