Not a surprise. For all the gnashing of teeth from moron centrist pundits and complaints about how the progressives are sabotaging the party, the actual record shows that people like Bernie or AOC and the rest are good team players. I don't think anyone credible thought anything else would happen. Lord knows they've been fighting tooth and claw to prevent these neoliberal ghouls from undermining Biden's more popular agenda items, with mixed results.

Only a fool would have thought that the progressive wing of the party was going to launch a serious challenge to their own party's incumbent.

I agree that it's not a surprise given the other two candidates, but that wasn't what I was referring to...and I think you know that.

I don't know what else you could have meant, you seem to be doing a touchdown dance that AOC and other progressives have endorsed Biden, despite that never being in any real doubt.

Nope. No touchdown dance at all. As AOC and I said, given the other candidates, there really is no other choice. I just know that some members here never miss a chance to tell us just how God-awful Biden is and having the progressive squad openly supporting Biden must sting...whether they want to admit it or not.

Would you rather she lie? Biden is no progressive's first choice, everyone knows this.

I'm not sure why anyone would need to cover anything up. I mean who would they be covering up for? The cocaine was found in an envelope about the size of a coin. It was reported to have been found near the West Executive entrance to the West Wing. This is on the ground floor of the West Wing. One floor down from the first floor.

The West Wing has four floors. It sort of is built on an incline so the first floor is ground level on one side but not on the other.

Yes the situation room is about a 100 steps away from this entrance. It is also about a 100 steps away from the Navy Mess Hall which serves White House employees. There also are miscellaneous offices on this floor including Secret Service, as well as the photo office. Just like many other areas of the White House complex probably at least 100 people pass through this area every day.

They are investigating the source by looking at security video and visitor logs. But given the small size of the baggie, there is a strong possibility the source will never be uncovered.

Now, close your eyes and imagine if this was found in Trump's White House.

The secret Service now appears to have closed the case for lack of evidence. Not surprising. I'm sure a list of 500 suspects is too difficult a task to sort thru merely to find how someone placed a baggie of Cocaine in the White House. Perhaps the next baggie placed in the White House will contain Anthrax or some other deadly substance. It would appear that either the Secret Service is not protecting the President, or perhaps they are.

The main reason to dismiss Marianne Williamson as irrelevant is because everybody else says to dismiss her as irrelevant. The idea manages to produce its own "proof" by simply blocking her out of venues that might bring her and her policy positions to too many Democrat voters' attention, because the corporate Democrats' media goons have figured out that pretending somebody doesn't exist is more effective at stifling them than admitting they do and attacking them openly.

I don't even remember, what's the normal policy for primary challengers to an incumbent? Do they even normally do televised debates? Any recentish historical examples?

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I think that's a foolish argument. Perfection is unattainable. If you have some insight into their investigative methods and how they can improve, I'm sure we'd all love to hear it. But simply not knowing everything about every incident is no sign of incompetence. It's a sign of having a difficult job in an imperfect world.

My guess, if this had happened in Trump's term, is that it would have been handled about the same, but that people of a certain persuasion would instantly accuse the left of having planted it, and no amount of either evidence or ambiguity would convince them otherwise. In the current situation they may have to settle for a partisan pissing contest.

if it happened under trump it would have been covered up and leaked to the press in a book by his recently fired secretary of state, then there would be a 3 year long witch hunt hoax investigation and you'd find out jared kushner actually sold $5B worth of russian cocaine to the UAE as part of a private real estate deal

Secret service agent notices the bag in the cubby hole, quickly grabs it,
and rushes to president Trump and informs him of the find. "Sir, you
left your powdered aspirin out again." Trump responds, "Oh... Good.
I feel a headache coming on." And takes the bag into his pocket.

Did you know that in his early days Trump did so much cocaine that
doctors had to replace his nasal septum with a plastic piece. In good
quality photos you can see two little bumps on his nose where it was
inserted — learned that fact from Penn.

I think you want the conspiracy thread. ------------>

Or.....Williamson is dismissed because she sounds like a 1969 Flower Child who's going to San Francisco with flowers in her hair. She wants to create a Department of Peace. She wants to give the descendants of slaves $500 billion over 20 years. She favors lowering the voting age to 16 (has she ever met a 16 year old?). She called mandatory vaccination "Orwellian" and "draconian".

Tweeting that the “power of the mind” might have changed the course of Hurricane Dorian and stopped it from hitting the US in 2019. (She later deleted the tweet.)

Publishing a book in 1992 called A Return to Love where she said that “cancer and Aids and other physical illnesses are physical manifestations of a psychic scream … sickness is an illusion and does not actually exist.” (She’s since said that she’s pro-medicine and pro-science.)

Saying that she would “harness love” to defeat Donald Trump during her closing statement at the Democratic presidential debate in 2019. We all know how that one worked out.

Her policies sound good...I like a lot of them. But some are also pie-in-the-sky unrealistic dreams that just aren't going to happen like getting rid of the electoral college. Red states are NOT going to vote for a new Amendment eliminating it.

Do you mean: first choice of any likely candidate, or your first choice "of literally anyone"?

When you say "any likely candidate" I don't see anyone moving up in the ranks. Were Nancy Pelosi considering running I might weigh her viability. But she seems determined to retire.

It's important the candidate does not pose a risk of losing to Trump because they don't appeal to a full range of voters from the middle to the left. IOW Sanders is not a good candidate. There are others like IOC who I think will make a very good candidate in a decade or so.

This business of Biden's too old is BS. Lots of people maintain fully functioning brains well into their 90s. I see no indication that isn't the case with Biden. A brief lapse in short term memory truly is not an indication of impending dementia. To counter any of his short term memory lapses all the Democrats need to do is to play this video ad nauseum:

They could do a montage of that plus Trump carefully walking down the ramp after his West Point speech, Trump with TP hanging off his shoe going up the airplane stairs and his inability to close an umbrella at the top of the stairs.

To counter that backfiring they could show Joe tripping 3 times on the plane stairs with a comment "No this doesn't make a candidate incompetent, you look at their record in office for that." Maybe scroll a long list of Biden's accomplishments until the ad fades out.

Wouldn't that make a great ad? :fg:

But I digress. Yes, I think Biden is like the race between the tortoise and the hare. You know the outcome of that symbolic fictional race.

I don't think he's too old and I think people saying so are knee-jerking their assessment.

I would prefer someone younger but that's not saying I think Biden is "too" old. I'd rather have an elderly competent and experienced president than a younger fool.
