Does anyone think Friday nighg was chosen because most security and military personnel were too drunk to respond quickly?

A Discworld quote for every occasion.

"The problem with mercenaries", said the Patrician, "is that they need to be paid to start fighting. And, unless you are very lucky, you end up paying them even more to stop".

Rostov is one of the main logistics centres and military headquarters coordinating operations in Ukraine. It's going to have a serious effect on the front.

Russian Telegram channels report that Wagner PMCs have entered Voronezh and are on the outskirts of Krasnodar and Volgograd. No one is resisting the militants.

Krasnodar is in the opposite direction to Moscow but it controls the bridge across the Kerch Strait in to Crimea

Reports that at least 3 Russian air force helicopters and an aircraft have been downed.

Remember a large part of the Russian army is in Ukraine, there's not much to stop Wagner's "march" to Moscow.
That's a delicious thought. My schadenfreude is only tempered by the fact that, for now, I only really care about how Ukraine can exploit this Russian infighting, so I'm finding it slightly hard to care who loses worst within Russia.

I guess it’s good for Ukraine in the short term, but in the event the Prigozhin should succeed in a coup, might he want to prove a point and show it should have been done?

Possibly, though having said it was never necessary he'd have to backtrack a fair way. Alternatively, if he actually succeeds with a coup, he'll have done more than enough to prove the point that he's best of the bunch.
