Cont: The Russian invasion of Ukraine part 7

This can't be a plan with Prighozin and Putin to get rid of the generals. Putins whole rationale is the MRGA occupation of all the old Russian empire countries he can conquer. It's become a holy crusade. Prighozin is claiming that Ukraine should have never been invaded. They can't square that circle.

And further, Putin would look seriously weak if he needed help from a thug mercenary boss to replace his generals.

I can’t see Putin standing on a tank rallying the population in defence of the Kremlin.

Apparently the Russian MoD is offering blanket amnesty for all Wagner mercenaries who surrender to ministry officials.

If true, I think this means they're genuinely worried. Prigozhin claims they have Voronezh, which is halfway to Moscow from Rostov-on-Don.

Russia now has two armies in control of two different parts of the country. That's the definition of a civil war and according to Trotsky a "revolutionary situation."

2021: "Russian army 2nd-best in the world"
2022: "Russian army 2nd-best in Ukraine"
2023: "Russian army 2nd-best in Russia"

Remember a large part of the Russian army is in Ukraine, there's not much to stop Wagner's "march" to Moscow.

And ... speech is over. A live paraphrase:
https://twitter.com/DAlperovitch/status/1672499796580466688

"Calls this action treason"

So Puti came out straight against Prigozhin:
"Everyone who participated in this will be punished"

According to the BBC, he didn't directly mention either Prigozhin or Wagner. Is this just a ploy to cover what's happening, or a desperate attempt to play both sides when he's not sure who will come out on top?

ETA: All my Finnish-language sources say Putin came out directly against Prigozhin.

Putin actually seemed animated in that speech compared to recent performances.

Well since he gave the order to invade Ukraine, this must be the first time that he is more worried about his own future now than that of Russia's.

I was still wondering if this whole thing was just a form of Russian theatre. Now, given that Putin seems to have been roused from his torpor, I'm not thinking that.

This is what the BBC says:

Putin says he's dealing with the crisis
Putin also stresses that all "necessary orders have been given" to deal with the crisis, pledging to defend Russia.

And that's the end of his short TV address - he did not mention Prigozhin once.

He did mention Wagner mercenaries, but only to praise them for fighting for Russia.

I'm still wondering... if he was confident that the Russian army and/or FSB will crush the mutiny, wouldn't he have said who will crush whom?
