Clarence Thomas and the Billionaire

It's also been revealed that, in addition to Crow paying for Thomas' great-nephew's private school and luxury vacations:

'No mention of Ginni, of course': Judicial activist 'directed $80,000 in fees' to the wife of Justice Clarence Thomas, as calls for Supreme Court ethics code grow.

Leonard Leo arranged $80,000 in payments for Ginni Thomas, says report

Money came from group that filed brief before the Supreme Court in same year

A conservative judicial activist arranged for the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to be paid tens of thousands of dollars a decade ago with instructions that her name be kept off paperwork, according to a new report.

In 2012, Leonard Leo asked Republican pollster Kellyanne Conway to bill a non-profit and use the money to pay Virginia 'Ginni' Thomas.

'No mention of Ginni, of course,' he stressed at one point.

In the same year, the non-profit, the Judicial Education Project, filed a brief in a major voting rights case.

The details, published by the Washington Post, pose fresh questions about whether justices and their families are cashing in on their work at the Supreme Court.

The latest questions involve Leo, who is a key figure in a network of groups that support the nominations of conservative judges.

Documents reviewed by the newspaper say he told Conway that he wanted her to 'give' Ginni Thomas 'another $25K.'

Conway's firm sent the Judicial Education Project a $25,000 bill that day. And it described the purpose as 'supplement for constitution polling and opinion consulting.'

In all the Polling Company paid Thomas’s firm, Liberty Consulting, $80,000 in a one-year period.

Justice Thomas is turning back the clock. By becoming the first black man OWNED by a white man in generations.

If the SC lets this whole sordid business slide, and there's no way to impose even a code of ethics on that now soiled and degraded institution, the US is cooked. Stick a fork in it.

The logical thing to do would be to fire all Supreme Court Judges, have a deep background check done on all of them and then see if they can be reconfirmed.

As for myself, I have always had some serious doubts about Thomas.

First, there were his confirmation hearings where Anita Hill was so seriously featured.

Second, Thomas was on the court for about ten years before he asked his first question from the bench.

And now third, there are frequent revelations about how Thomas and his wife have received hundreds of thousands, and possibly millions, of dollars in various expenses, compensations, gifts, and so on from people who can benefit from having a good Supreme Court ally.

In short, it is high time that Thomas be kicked out the Court.

No one had paid him to before then? :)

This is amusing. The budget of the court is mandatory, just like paying debt ceiling expenses should be. If congress can stop us paying our bills, congress could cut off the court's salaries. Until they disclose and resolve income tax issues.

How would that hurt? I'm sure there would be an instant phalanx of sugar daddies stepping up to help the poor waifs.

Everything hurts Thomas that he has to do without or turn down. He recieved a million in goodies, but he still wanted the free $120 car tires.

Thomas reviewed the Constitution and found nothing in there stating he couldn't accept bribes. If it were supposed to be forbidden it would be in the text!

The kid is growing up with a Supreme Court Justice raising him "like a son". How "at-risk" is he?

He's being raised by corrupt crackpots who believe their actions should have no consequences. Add that to wealth and he's definitely at risk just more in the frat boy type sexual assault, fraud, and cocaine direction than street violence.

I don't think there is a problem if they put the names of their sponsors on their gowns each season.

Heh.

We had a state supreme court justice who was basically a coal company plant so blatant that John Grisham based a novel on it. Every time I'd go in there I'd see in my minds eye a "sponsored by Friends of Coal" banner draped over the bench in front of him....

(ironically he turned out to be decently reasonable in criminal cases; far better than the Democrat he unseated)

Given they make millions on the side and only a couple hundred K in salary, why should they feel threatened? Is it that they would lose their staff? The Federalist Society could make that up for all their darlings. That would leave the justices nominated by Democrats out in the cold—a win win.
