yup tuck and roll..

We found that electron-dominated CSs in which electrons become the main carriers of the electric current and contributors to energy dissipation may form inside or nearby ion-dominated CSs.

Like Scott said... :)

Do you understand what the word "dissipation" means in terms of energy?

To put it in terms of wires..

Dissipation is a term that is often used to describe ways in which energy is wasted. Any energy that is not transferred to useful energy stores is said to be wasted because it is lost to the surroundings. Electrical cables warming up are a good example of this

Wasted energy, a nice fit for EU musings.

Anyhoo back to the original “switchbacks
Second theory agrees on the import of interchange reconnection, but differs on the nature of switchbacks themselves. Instead of viewing switchbacks as a kink in a magnetic field line, the second theory suggests it is the signature of a kind of magnetic structure, called a flux rope.[2][5]
”…wiki

You flew thru flux tubes flowing in both directions.

Much like Scott’s force free paper. Just saying

For what, what is that purported "current" returning from? Where is Saturn receiving "current" from to have returned to it?

You seem confused and fixated on "current". It's power, energy over time, that is required to power, well, anything. Even the EU.

Yup, just need a big battery now.

In a collisionless plasma? I’ll give you they are “lossy” but they don’t seem to dissipate easily.

In fact some are quite long.

AGN Jets are big lossy coaxial cables. Apparently the current can also return nested inside the cables.

Whoda thunkit? :boggled:

Apparently, this is in Scotts force free electric current model.

Also seems the ELECTRONS are doing the heavy lifting. Problem is you’ve been looking at the ion/s (MHD).

Missed the memo?

So....ummmm...electrons and ions going both ways in a plasma cable?

When sail thru the turbulent plasma full of force free electric currents (solar wind) and you sample it on the whole.

Quasi neutral. :boxedin:

But the dissipation is still pretty minimal in these plasma power cables/wires or whatever helps you visualise bloody big extension cords in space. :(

Tusenfem,

Let’s talk semantics,

What are we, here in this thread, going to call these structures?

Nested flux tubes? Evershed flows and counter flows? Birkeland current? Force field aligned currents? Power cables for “Magnetic reconnecting” of ion and electrons flows?

Need something snappy.

You’ve dealt with them, afaik, in the MMS and Rosetta missions.

Seem pretty common, now, in peer reviewed mainstream papers.

But the names seem all over the shop??

Sheets are just flat version of the tubes. A geometry thing but still nested electrons and ions going,

Hard too “see em” until you fly thru one with the correct instrumention.

Ulysses was awhile back now.

One wonders if these nested power cables going out and coming in at the poles of the Sun may play a part in the big curcuit?

Or all those peer reviewed jobs just having a lend of me?

They seem legit, what with some complex looking math and all. Even the super duper big computers seem to struggle.

It is a good thing that we have people who know nothing of the subjects, and who abhor math, but “know” how the universe works.

Can't read, can you? I just showed you in the papers you quoted where the current sheets are overall charge neutral. Get over the fact that you haven't got a clue what you are talking about. And neither does Scott.

Jd116?

Not Scott’s, of course.

These are the mainstream peer reviewed jobs...

Not

The “Velikoskyian”...

Jesus H. Christ! A bunch of complete ignorance and word salad! You haven't got a clue! Give up.

The solar wind is not a current. Learn to read.

Well, um, tusenfem does.

I asked nicely and all. He is quite knowledgeable on these things.appear to have been for period of time now.

Let’s dedicate a mission to find out, ay, tusenfem.

The stupid hurts! You do realise that the switchbacks are heading outwards, yes?

Have a look at the pretty picture, given that is all you wingnuts seem to understand.

And none of them are stupid enough to claim that the solar wind is a current. Learn to read. I posted the relevant passages. Even Velikovskian mythologists should be able to understand what they are saying.

Well we could maybe call the, “sheaths”.

The clustering of switchbacks and their sometimes complicated structure may be due to the formation of multiple closely spaced switchbacks created by interchange reconnection with numerous open and loop magnetic field lines over a short period. We show that their evolution yields a complex, aggregated group of switchbacks that includes "sheaths" with large-amplitude radial magnetic field and velocity fluctuations.

Sheaths maybe?

Nah, something with a little more pop.

Scott hasn't got a clue what he is talking about. Neither do you. Read the papers. I just highlighted the relevant passages for you. Which part of 'electrical quasi-neutrality' are you failing to understand?

Seriously, stick to the day job. You are making yourself look even more ignorant than usual. Nobody in your cult has a clue about plasma physics. Accept that and move on. Besides, haven't you gish-galloped enough since making a fool of yourself over the Ulysses and Cassini positive dust detections? Lol.
