Greta Thunberg - brave campaigner or deeply disturbed? Part II.

So Andrew Tate was just recently arrested in Romania on charges of kidnapping/sex trafficking.

Where this is actually related to the current thread is that, apparently, Romanian authorities needed evidence that he was actually in the country before they raided his home. In Tate's "totally not owned" video, there is a pizza box in the foreground, displaying the name of a Romanian pizza chain. The only reason he made the video in the first place was because a kid made fun of him online, and now he's in jail.

Phrases like "stepping on a rake" and "shooting oneself in one's foot" do not do this justice. This is going to become a legendary fable in the saga of self-ownership.

Wait, is Thunberg still a kid?

Re the thread title, hopefully "deeply disturbed" has been ruled out by now. As for has she made a difference? Yes, clearly by contributing to bringing the problem to everyone's attention which is where you have to start.
Al Gore had already brought the issue to everyone's attention. She found out about it because her parents told her about it. Because her parents already knew. Because everybody already knew.

And her goal was never to "raise awareness" by infinitesimal degrees. Maybe that's your goal, but it wasn't hers. Her goal was to trigger immediate, drastic change, worldwide, to save the future of human civilization.

Giving her credit for the kinds of marginal gains that you're willing to settle for is the same as spitting in her face and crapping all over her actual agenda.

Sadly, she hasn't made a difference in the mitigation of AGW and it's effects..

What else matters?

The people who could make a difference clearly do not wish to..
Is Exxon still spending millions advertising that fossil fuels don't matter?

Are people switching more and more to solar and wind?

Are people no longer focusing on the claim solar and wind can never replace fossil fuels?

Is CA planning to mandate electric vehicles?

Yes there have been setbacks, the Ukraine war causing one of them. China has yet to give up coal but they are moving ahead to be a world leader in pioneers of alternative energy.

You don't see what you don't look to see.

World leaders have steadfastly refused to make the kinds of drastic changes Greta was telling them are necessary to save the planet and save her future. They pay her lip service because it's a cheap way to get votes without having to make any real changes. They prop her up as a useful idiot. We should not settle for being their willing dupes.

I'm trying to understand the logic here. She's not been successful enough at convincing people to take real action, and that is to HER discredit?

I guess it's Ripley's fault almost everyone died, because she just couldn't get them to listen.

Tate responded with a 2 minute video detailing all the ways he totally was not owned. It was the worst way he could have possibly responded.

I watched that video. It's so completely surreal, so completely cringemaking, so egregriously kicking-oneself-in-the-balls-ish, that the only comparable thing I could think of was that awesome dance at the office party by Ricky Gervaise in the UK version of The Office, and that of course was fiction. Com-plete-ly unbelievable.

Now nutjobs and weirdos are nothing new, but what's truly pathetic is the hordes of incel types that willingly get grifted off by this scumbag and so end up enriching him. Much like shameless grifters like Trump are what they are, but what is completely pathetic is the hordes of complete idiots and dupes that vote for that loathsome turd and otherwise enrich him at their own expense.

Com-plete-ly hilarious!

What that reminded me of was the Home Alone movies, where the villains (who are bad guys, sure, but more like some comedian's parody of bad guys, and dumbed down for consumption by kids, much like this unbelievable performance from this nutjob here) who end up getting bested by the much younger underdog, both because of the ingenuity of the child, as well as their own propensity to keep stepping on rakes.

She's failed at achieving the clear goals she laid out. The only people taking it personally are those who insist on celebrating her effort as if it were successful.

Do you mean those complete transformation of society goals, the ones that are long on rhetoric and buzzwords but curiously lacking in detail? Are we talking Star Trek, or North Korea here?

So, let's do a quick check of the climate clock to see how long we have before we hit 1.5C warming and all hell breaks loose.

6 Years, 204 days and BONUS! the global north now owes 32 Trillion dollars to the global south. Maybe Elon Musk can cover it.

Now let's check and see how "we're" doing.

OH ******

Global CO2 emissions from fossil fuels hits record high in 2022

And don't forget, under Thunbergism it's up to the global north to cut their emissions while the global south continues unabated until out economies are equal. Better cancel those vacation plans and send the cash to the people who distribute cash to poor countries, the planet will thank you for it. Nah, screw that, it's easier to simply retweet and make it look like you're part of the solution.

Grace and peace to you in the name of Greta Thunberg.

Stout.

It's hardly fair to discredit her for, as a child, being propped up by her guardians and others as a useful idiot for global elites who made a show of welcoming her sermons even as they ignored them. That's all to the discredit of her parents.

It's to the discredit of her fans, her cargo-cultists, that they celebrate her failed campaign as if it were a huge success, while ignoring their role as willing dupes of the same regime that exploited her conviction and naivete for their own cynical ends.

I guess it's Ripley's fault almost everyone died, because she just couldn't get them to listen.
Sure. If Newt is telling Burke not to bring the xenomorph to Earth. And Burke is nodding and smiling and agreeing that would be a bad idea, while he brings the xenomorph back to Earth. And Ripley is praising Newt for working so hard to keep Burke from bringing the xenomorph back to Earth, and for coming this close to preventing the xenomorph from arriving on Earth.

Then yeah, I guess I can see the analogy.

I happily had no idea that Tate even existed until I saw this video taking the piss out of him earlier this year.

This is the kind of gag you see in Leslie Neilson movie.

A real hero of the right.

I think it was only ever a question in the minds of feeble white men who were jealous that a young girl could command so much respect and attention.

When people like the President of USA have to bully her, you know she's won.

I'm trying to understand the logic here. She's not been successful enough at convincing people to take real action, and that is to HER discredit?

See above re: white men with severe attacks of jealousy. Take a look at who dislikes the girl - Trump, Xi, guys like your insane-right pals at SC... Being anti-Greta is a great way to say "I am an ********".

Why do you ask?
Because earlier in this thread much offense was taken at the idea of treating Thunberg like a kid, now that she's reached the (well, an) age of majority. And even earlier in the thread, much offense was taken at the idea of holding Thunberg accountable for things she said and done while still a minor.

Now, I have no problem holding her parents responsible for creating and promoting Greta Thunberg the child celebrity. And I have no problem holding Greta Thunberg herself responsible for her choices as an adult. But it seems some people who take this all much more seriously than I do still need to make up their minds.
