Greta Thunberg - brave campaigner or deeply disturbed? Part II.

I guess we view it differently.

I used the wording I did because Tate had a short lived career as a kickboxer. So it was a play on words, if you will. Of course he'll get back up, and maybe he'll try going after her again. Usually something like this would give an intelligent person pause.

And yet Greta went right on into it.

Haha oh wow. Greta Thunberg is in an internet slapfight with Andrew Tate? Climate change is about to destroy global civilization unless we take drastic measures literally yesterday, and this is the kind of win you're putting on the board?

:dl:

Idiot post of the year found just before closing date.

You're quite right, she should have used her magical powers to stop oil production forthwith.

He thought he was going to make her look stupid by bringing up the fact he has some gas guzzling supercars.

I read it as " he doesn't give a **** about saving the planet ", but the stupid kicked in and it was downhill from there..

Still nothing about what Greta's activism has done to slow global warming, or mitigate the inevitable results..

I think that would be hard to parse or give any actual evidence to support. I know world leaders have commended her on her speeches, and that *probably* played a role in their decisions on climate control legislation.

I don't know how you would prove that either way, I guess. If she had absolutely no effect then why are so many people going after her?

World leaders have steadfastly refused to make the kinds of drastic changes Greta was telling them are necessary to save the planet and save her future. They pay her lip service because it's a cheap way to get votes without having to make any real changes. They prop her up as a useful idiot. We should not settle for being their willing dupes.

I go after the cargo-cult mentality evinced by her fans on the (thankfully) rare occasion it rears its ugly head around these parts.

But I'm a detractor of cargo-cult activism generally. Empty rhetoric and pointless gestures are not awesome.

So Andrew Tate was just recently arrested in Romania on charges of kidnapping/sex trafficking.

Where this is actually related to the current thread is that, apparently, Romanian authorities needed evidence that he was actually in the country before they raided his home. In Tate's "totally not owned" video, there is a pizza box in the foreground, displaying the name of a Romanian pizza chain. The only reason he made the video in the first place was because a kid made fun of him online, and now he's in jail.

Phrases like "stepping on a rake" and "shooting oneself in one's foot" do not do this justice. This is going to become a legendary fable in the saga of self-ownership.

Hilarious! There is a side note.

Weirdo conservative Mattt Walsh tried to defend Tate because while he is worried about LGBTQ “groomers” he seeems to support human trafficking scum like Tate.

In his comeback video he was coincidentally wearing an orange red gown and smoking a cigar and is bald like Homer. And by trying to own Greta tipped off the Romanian authorities with a pizza box from Romania…

But when you think about it, aren't WE the ones who are owned, for the high crime of discussing things in a discussion forum?

Re the thread title, hopefully "deeply disturbed" has been ruled out by now. As for has she made a difference? Yes, clearly by contributing to bringing the problem to everyone's attention which is where you have to start.

Greta Thunberg effect evident among Norwegian youth
Since 2017, nearly 3,000 young Norwegians aged 17 to 20 have shared in their own words what they consider important in Norwegian society, and whom they regard as good role models.

The survey showed a clear shift in Norwegian youth in autumn 2019, when Greta Thunberg received extensive media attention, and the "Fridays for future" movement spread with school strikes in several countries.

"What we see is that Greta Thunberg has been very important in uniting young people who were already concerned about the climate," says researcher Jan Frode Haugseth, from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). "She also helped to make more young people climate aware, especially in 2019."
I suspect we can find similar data among a lot of groups like the media which now dedicates more time to the issue, to governments that have increased formal conferences and meetings, to the public at large, especially young people.
