Oh dear, folk who voted for Brexit are miffed and trying to claim they didn't vote for what they did actually vote for - https://www.theguardian.com/politic...all-conservatives-reform-uk-party-immigration

In there you can see some of the idiocy involved with the likes of Richard Tice and Peter Cruddas claiming that the current Tory government are "socialists": you keep using that word etc etc...

FFS, the closest we ever got to a socialist government was the 1945 Attlee crowd.

The scariest part of that article is the level of support there seems to be for the idea that the problem is that the current government isn't xenophobic and brexity enough.

I wonder how much "better" it will get if they do get to implement their ideas. You think Liz Truss's reign was disastrous because she and Kwarteng kneecapped the economy? This Reform UK lot will do a lot worse than that on a bigger scale.

Expect a lot of "leavers" - immigrants who do the work will be expelled, Britons who want to work and get paid will emigrate, businesses that want to prosper will relocate, and quite possibly Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales will ignore Westminster's patronising decrees and just leave the Union for a better world. And the NHS will "save" the government 350 million quid a week by collapsing.

There is an article in today's Observer about some Tory supporting millionaire name of Cruddas accusing Sunak of dragging the party to the left so it's no longer a centre-right party (not been that for quite a while) and warning of 'right-wing insurgency'.

It would also appear that Farrage's mob are getting more popular, level pegging with the Lib-Dems.

That is utterly ridiculous. The Tories left "centre right" when Edward Heath lost to Margaret Thatcher and hasn't been back since.

You know that, I know that, quite a few other folk know that, however, I have no idea which flavour of Kool Aid Cruddas and the like have been drinking.

I haven't spotted the now rare One Nation Tory since the '80s.

Scotland and the six counties are already lost, it's only a matter of time before both go, Scotland because independence will become too popular, the six counties because the sensible unionists will realise their identity will be better protected in a more prosperous, accepting, open and fairer Ireland.

Hasn't been that since Thatcher took over, and the trend has always been farther to the right.

No doubt Ree-Smog will be along to tell all these folks that they are Rong - https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/dec/21/brexit-deal-not-boosted-business-uk-firms

A few key takeaways from that article are

  • That 77% of UK companies say that Brexit has not helped them expand their business - I'm surprised it's so few
  • The UK economy is 5.5% smaller than it otherwise would have been - imagine how much worse it would have been were it not for the NI Protocol and the fact that basically nothing has been implemented on the UK side
  • The promised reduction in EU red tape has resulted in far more red tape
  • There won't be any changes until 2026 at the earliest

No sunlight, no uplands.

Of course they're wrong. 25% of UK Businesses saw an increase in business due to Brexit. It's clearly a great success.

....either that, or their business was unaffected by Brexit because they don't rely on EU imports, exports or workers.
