The Russian Invasion of Ukraine Part 4

Does anyone even think the Russians can shoot accurately enough to hit a grain silo? They just wanted to disrupt the operations of the port so it can't ship grain, actually destroying a silo is likely beyond their capability except in cases of dumb luck.

Ukraine Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov said commercial vessels would be organised into convoys accompanied by Ukrainian ships "within days".

Russia says the deal does not stop them continuing their military objectives.

Of course he said it like Gonzalo Lira claimed. You can now change to denying what that implies.

And what exactly is the point of mentioning that the Ruscist murderers want to murder Zelenskyy at this point - a fact that we have known since at least Day 1 of this murderous war? Nothing has changed - at least this guy is not alluding to any new facts. He says:
[Zelenskyy] is a leader in wartime, dealing with an opponent, an adversary, an enemy in Russia, that is ruthless, brutal and capable of just about anything.
And that's all he say as reason why he is "worried" about the personal safety of the hero leading the Ukrainian self-defense. He was merely asked about that - not a topic he chose himself, isn't it?
Everyone was worried about his personal service in late February, when the US offered evacuation, and he quipped "I don't need a ride, I need ammunition". We all knew Putler was an enemy that is ruthless, brutal and capable of just about anything since 1999, when he first brutally murdered uncounted Russians.

Someone royally quote-mined Sullivan to score a silly, meaningless propaganda point, and CE fell for it, hook, line and sinker.

I don't really have an opinion. I'm referring to ISW's.

Ukrainian officials are increasingly acknowledging Ukrainian counteroffensive operations in Kherson Oblast. (understandingwar.org)

This appears to be just the beginning of something larger.

I sure would not mind if it is, but I am not simply taking the word of one party just yet. When they actually do manage to encircle and take prisoner (or wipe out) a substantial number of Russians, when they sweep around Kherson and have the Ruscist mock administrators on their knees begging for mercy, when Russia declares Kherson a faint and pulls back troop for redeployment to their "real" objectives (perhaps nearer the Caspian Sea), I'll be happy to call it a counter-offensive and declare CE an impotent prophet once more.

Why should I listen to this clown on that clown forum? Gonzalo Lira based his video on it and The Don is the guy who doubted that the basis is real. I gave him the primary source material and he obviously made up that he watched it as his reply came just ten minutes after I posted it. Clear cut case. I'm not watching hours of that scumbag to find out when and in which form he mentioned that he is "concerned about Zelenski's security". Do it yourself, report the results.
You haven't watched it.

Putin raising the stakes in the gas war.H
He might be forcing Europe to go to other sources, something which Europe should have done long ago.

Story is fiction, but the capabalities of the A 10 fire power is pretty accurate.
Why does the concept that fiction can be quite accurate in details seem to pass you bye?

Firepower is no good if you get shot down.

More detail on the Kherson front.

South direction – all the Russian logistical supplies lines are under Ukrainian fire control in the right bank of Dnipro from Kryvyi Rih to Kherson and the Black Sea. Ukraine is taking the war into the 4th generation war mode, aiming to make it an asymmetrical war, which at the moment means distance missile attacks with no offensive operations. Russia is not being attacked directly. Not only weapon caches are being destroyed but also commanding points, communication lines and air defence. This will then lead to attacks on Russian forces.

Given that all three bridges are disabled in Kakhovka, Daryev over Ingulets, and Antonovsky. This practically divided Russian forces. The objective is to force Russians to do another goodwill gesture but allow the troops to withdraw – equipment is unlikely to be withdrawn given the weakness of the bridges.

From Reuters:

Ukraine says it has destroyed 50 Russian ammunition depots using HIMARS

KYIV, July 25 (Reuters) - Ukraine said on Monday its forces had used U.S-supplied HIMARS rocket systems to destroy 50 Russian ammunition depots since receiving the weapons last month.

In comments on national television, Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov underlined the growing impact that the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) are having as Ukraine tries to repel Russia's invasion.

"This cuts their (Russian) logistical chains and takes away their ability to conduct active fighting and cover our armed forces with heavy shelling," Reznikov said. . . .

And in other news:

Reznikov also said Ukraine had received three Gepard anti-aircraft armoured fighting vehicles, the first of 15 expected, and that Kyiv was expecting to take delivery of several dozen Leopard tanks.

I read elsewhere that ammunition for the Gepards is being supplied by an anonymous third country, which solves that problem. Maybe Ukraine will use the Gepards to protect their MLRS.

Very good, if somewhat disturbing, article from Fox News:

Putin's fascination with fake history and symbolism may go deeper than we know

It is not just Ukraine-erasing and a violent charge to wipe a brother country, or at least parts of it, off the map. The mission and mindset go much further, according to preeminent Kyiv-born, Russian-educated author and literary translator, Elena Kostioukovitch.

In a recent essay called "What’s Going on In Putin’s Mind," she says there is a toxic fascination in Russia, starting at the very top, with alternative histories of the entire world, theories which paint Russians as the real masters of the universe and ancient civilizations like Greece and Rome as mere inventions of phony scholars. Fake history, essentially, trumping even fake news.

This world view is largely based on volumes of something called "The New Chronology," which is the brainchild mainly of two Russian authors, an academic and a mathematician respectively-- Anatoly Fomenko and Gleb Nosovsky. One of the key premises is that dark forces tampered with all the history books in libraries across the globe at a certain point in time, wiping out or changing real versions of events and resetting dates.

According to Kostioukovitch, it is one of the many mystical, fantastical theories Russian President Vladimir Putin and his inner circle are peddling, and they have managed to sweep not insignificant parts of the population along with them, manipulating masses towards the conclusion that it is high time to make amends—not just for losing the Cold War-but for long-standing injustice against Russians. For the Kremlin, this works very well for the moment.

Obviously propaganda, but also possibly true.

What's the likelihood that NATO* is feeding reconnaissance data to the Ukrainians to help them target those fancy rockets? I think it's pretty likely, myself. Other than supplying Ukraine with advanced weapons, it's about as close as NATO* can get to fighting without actually putting troops in the field.

Maybe the ammo is coming from Brazil : P

It's hard to believe that Putin would be stupid enough to believe that. I don't think fighting a war based on grandiose fantasies will go well for him.

I read a couple of months ago about the Gepards. they have been in storage for a long time and needed a lot of refurb.
Good to see they are arriving at last.

Of course they are. I bet the trajectories of a quite a few satellites have been swung across Ukraine over the last few months.
Kyiv will be getting a constant stream of Satellite images and sigint from GCHQ.
Menwith Hill will have all it's resources turned that way.

Wow, three Gepards. Now there's a Wunderwaffe.

I doubt three Gepards will make much difference in the long, but the real "wunderwaffe" here is the West's ability to pull older equipment out of storage, refurb it, and get it into action while the conflict is still ongoing. I wonder how many Shilkas the Russians have un-assed in the same time period.

If Putin is crazy enough to buy into the "New CHronology" crap (the theory that all civilization originated in Russia, and Greece,Rome and the Middle ages are hoaxes) then we are deeper kimchee then I though.
