He resists climate change legislation, as we see Europe fry and the USA boil and drown.

He resists higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations.

How exactly is this man a Democrat? I mean yes its great that his seat gives the Democrats control in the Senate, but what else has he done? Anything?

He's in goddamn WEST VIRGINIA. That's arguably the single most conservative and anti-Democratic Party place in the country. It's a miracle we have anything less than a fully buried in the Right extremists in that seat.

You have to think of Manchin as the half or 1/4 or whatever Democrat we got, not as the full Democrat we are never going to get in his position.

He's not a good person, but he's not stealing some fully liberal Democratic seat from us. He's keeping a full on Republican out of it.

Yes, but because he's a Democrat the Senate is split 50/50 with Kamala Harris the tiebreaking vote. Kicking him out of the party would be going from bad to worse. Republicans would be in charge 51/49 and Moscow Mitch would be in charge of the Senate again.

The Democrats need to gain seats in the Senate, enough that they can tell Manchin to take a hike.

"Democrat" is a US political party, not a rigid and narrow ideological groupthink, no matter how much you might wish it were. How is Manchin a Democrat? Let me count the ways:

One, he registered as a candidate in Democrat primaries in his voting district(s).

Two, he was elected in those districts by voters voting in Democrat primaries.

Three, he caucuses with the Democrats in Congress.

But fundamentally, he's a Democrat because Democrat voters in his primary decided he was Democrat enough to get their votes.

Because his grandfather and uncle were prominent Democrats before the switch in the 60s.

Precisely what does he do to improve Democratic propositions in West Virginia? Does he sell Biden's platform to voters? Does he campaign for Democrats in the state legislature? Does he remind the people of West Virginia they used to take up arms against the mother$%^&*(! coal barons to fight for workers' rights?

When you think of it as what he's not doing that other senators do, not only is he stealing a Senate seat, he's preventing the Democrats from winning others in West Virginia.

I don't give a **** about West Virginia (in this context that is). I'm talking keeping our stupid unbalanced Senator system from doing more damage to the overall country.

Again West goddamn Virginia. Only 17% of the population identify as liberal. They voted for Trump at the highest margin of any state in the Union.

The fact that there is ANY Left Leaning person of any kind at any high elected office is insane. Anything less than two Klan members holding those two Senate seats is cause for celebration. One of those two Senate seats even being a moderate Republican would be a goddamn miracle. The fact that we have someone who's 50.0000001% Democratic should leave us in a state of constant orgasm.

Let's run a scenario. Manchin doesn't run in the next Senatorial Election for his seat.

What is the far, far, far, far, far more likely scenario?

Option A: A far right extremists gets that seat.
Option B: We get a full on actual party line liberal.

If you think Option B is even a remote possibility, go outside, find as much grass as you can, and touch all of it.

I have been a resident of West Virginia since 1976 and I really do not consider Manchin to be much of a Democrat.

However, he is still more of Democrat than our current Governor Jim Justice who originally ran as a Democrat against a Republican, then won the election, then changed his party affiliation to Republican after winning the election. And for a while, Justice was buddy-buddy with Trump.

When it comes to conservative Democrats, then one can find a significant number of them in West Virginia.

He has voted in line with Biden's position 90% of the time according to fivethirtyeight. If that variation is too far a bridge for you then maybe expectations need to be reflected on. For reference, the other senator from WV, Shelley Moore Capito, voted 92% in line with Trump. Same as a number of well known republican senators.

What does Manchin do to change that? West Virginia used to be a Democratic stronghold. What does he do to at least edge it back?

Nifty. When Arizona, Ohio, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia etc go full red because the Democrats can't deliver on anything, what is Joe Manchin's seat worth?

And if the Dems lose the Senate this year because, once again, they didn't deliver on anything, what does West Virginia matter?

He's voted to approve Biden's judge nominees, who mostly haven't been the bloodthirsty fascist religious-war-on-our-own-people maniacs Republicans would have wanted (until recently).

Other than that, he's working for his own profit from the system instead of to do anybody any good in any way. But if that makes him not a Democrat, then rather few Democrats in office are Democrats.

Let's not forget he tips the balance so we don't have McConnell doing even worse things to sabotage the Democratic policies.

We need more Democratic Senators rather than one less Manchin.
