How is Manchin a Democrat?

He resists "climate change legislation" because he knows the doom-and-gloom predictions are bogus, and that many previous doomsday predictions have proved to be baseless.
Yeah, it's just another big kunspeeruhsee involving the complicity of an entire branch of science, like the moon landings, or the globe. But you're too smart for them.

And the US and Europe are not boiling and drowning.
Do you live in a cave that only has cable access to FoxNews and OAN?

E-freakin-gads, how much more do you want the wealthy to pay in taxes?
How about something? That would be a start. You're proof that the money spent by the richest of us to convince people to vote against their own self-interest is well spent.

Perhaps your real question should be, "Why isn't Manchin a radical liberal Democrat like most of the other Senate Democrats?"
"Radicals!!! Pink Commies!!!1!11!!!1! Wantin' our precious billionaires to pay taxes like.the.rest of us!!!!!!"

In pretty much every other industrialized democracy our Democratic party would be regarded as somewhat right of center.

Who ******* cares about this? I will be dead and gone without seeing significant quality of life impacts. That is all I care about. The rest of the world can deal with it on their time. Also, aren't there already like 100 climate change threads to address this?

I take it you don't have children.

They won't be able to deal with it in their time because it will be too late. It's a unique problem that challenges our willingness to sacrifice for future benefit because the timescales involved cover multiple human generations. But we have to do something if we want to maintain our survival. If we do something it has to start now.

Really? Interesting.

You see, the deal that Manchin struck with Schumer involved investments in green energy and efforts to expand health care...

I see, you conflate Manchin and Schumer as on opposite sides of the corporate grift that is the modern Democratic party policy, written by lobbyist, legislation. Come back when you see 70-80% support among the party leadership for things like the Green New Deal which is about the support that level which this legislation had among those who ended up voting for a barely lessor evil Biden administration in 2020.

Its pretty amazing that any democrat is a Senator in a state that voted for Trump by more than a 2:1 Margin in the last election. Must be stealing that seat from a more progressive Dem.

Manchin is a historical artifact. The shift from strongly blue to bright red in WV was pretty swift and he's pretty much the last guy standing.

The annoying thing is that I have a hard time believing that he will stand a chance at re-election in 2024. He squeaked by in 2018 because it was an off year and because his opponent was a carpetbagger with ties to the opiate industry. The demographics have gotten worse to the point where the carpetbagger opiate thing wouldn't likely matter.

He's wasting a generational opportunity to direct so much federal spending to West Virginia that it would shame Robert C. Byrd. Which would be his going out in a blaze of glory or at least give him a selling point next election better than the case he's building now. Which seems to be "I'm sort of like a Republican." Better to go with "Those new interstates and factory jobs producing wind turbines and solar panels plus the executive order getting WVU into the SEC? You're welcome."

It's a bit frustrating.

“We have agreed to remove the carried interest tax provision,

Ya, they had to get rid of the thing I said she would block it for.

“Subject to the Parliamentarian’s review, I’ll move forward,” the centrist said.

Oh, I'm sure that wasn't meant to leave her a back door out. It's not like Democrats have ever let the Senate Parliamentarian stop legislation before.

Oh, I'm sure that wasn't meant to leave her a back door out. It's not like Democrats have ever let the Senate Parliamentarian stop legislation before.

Today, the Parliamentarian blocked one part:

The Senate parliamentarian on Saturday dealt a blow to Democrats' plan for curbing drug prices but left the rest of their sprawling economic bill largely intact as party leaders prepared for the first votes on a package containing many of President Joe Biden's top domestic goals.

Elizabeth MacDonough, the chamber's nonpartisan rules arbiter, said lawmakers must remove language imposing hefty penalties on drugmakers that boost their prices beyond inflation in the private insurance market. Those were the bill's chief pricing protections for the roughly 180 million people whose health coverage comes from private insurance, either through work or bought on their own.

Democrats are using special procedures that would let them pass the measure without having to reach the 60-vote majority that legislation often needs in the Senate.

It is the parliamentarian's job to decide whether parts of legislation must be dropped for violating those rules, which include a requirement that provisions be chiefly aimed at affecting the federal budget, not imposing new policy.

Schumer should immediately replace the current parliamentarian, unfortunately he approves of the "flying cover" job she is currently providing for the neoliberal corporatist fascists in charge of both mainstream political parties.

I see you belong to the party of "The parties are equally bad."

Ditto for corporations. The corporate income tax is a foolish form of double taxation. Corporations already pay billions for their employees' health insurance, paid time off, Social Security, dental insurance, matching 401Ks, not to mention the billions they pay in state and local taxes. Corporations provide most of the best jobs that so many people want to get, but you liberals want to take even more money from them.

They don't "pay" for all of those. If your job was in a different country that provides those benefits, your pay would be higher.

Social Security is 12.4%. If you have an employer, you pay about half of it. If you are self employed, you pay all.

Why? Do you object to how she does her job?

Big donors are to the left of the median Democrat

Not at all, but all Private money in Public elections is wrong and should be criminal. If you eliminate Private money from Public elections, there is a very limited and largely inconsequential legal role for any political party.
