That's a cheap debate trick.

The cops on the scene, the state police department and countless others had 40 minutes to talk (okay, shout and demand) this commander out of a really stupid decision that ran counter to every ding dang thing they have been taught.

So are you arguing that the entire system in Texas is broken?

A weird point of data.

I'm been a "gun guy" just long enough to remember how hated and much of a joke the M-16/AR-15 rifles used to be. Like the hard core gun nuts of the 80s haaaaated them with a passion, completely dismissed the .223 caliber as nothing but a souped up varmint round, called them toys and spread the UL that they were literally made by Mattel, hated the fact that they were largely made of plastic, and there was a lot of pushback against the idea that the guns were designed to wound rather than to kill.

No real point just weird that they are now THE "gunniest gun gun for gun people who loves guns."

It got worse after Columbine, worse after Sandy Hook and there is zero indication this will change anything.

I used to argue for better gun control and pointed out what works. But after seeing what happened after Sandy Hook, when so many even claimed it was a false flag event with actors, I looked at why it had got worse after Columbine and concluded it is an insurmountable problem.

I think the answer is to train the police in a better response and to further target harden schools and introduce drills.

Because they are one of the best designed, adaptable and reliable guns available (with the caveat that you don't buy a badly made cheap one) There is a reason for their longevity in service with military and law enforcement around the globe.

They love the idea of the good guy with the gun, and then they see what really happens, is that the good guy does not want to die.
 
On EVERY level, what a screwed up situation. What a screwed up country.

The worst is the numbers of people who steadfastly, obstreporously refuse to admit the inexorable math and statistics; more guns = more shootings. This refusal to face reality will only perpetuate the insanity and carnage for who knows how long to come.

I really wonder just how bad it has to get before a national awakening occurs. Even if 90% want reform, but the 10% control the agenda, then the nation is not yet awake. For to be awake is for the 90% to exert their majority voice. Until then, the lassitude and acquiescence while waiting for some savior to grasp the nettle is as bad as support.

What a mindlessly stupid thing to say. So stupid in fact that if I had nothing better to offer in support of my position, my own self-respect would force me to reconsider it. It doesn't take an "internet tough guy" to question why, among all the initial police responders present, not one could summon the courage to place the lives of helpless little children over their own safety -- the very thing they were trained to do as part of their jobs. Not one with even a fraction of the bravery shown by unarmed, untrained teachers and students in similar situations.

Spare me the "helpless little children" pity party. There is a protocol. The discussion was about the cops "standing around" for 40 minutes. Clearly for much of that time they were under orders to do just that.

The real mindlessly stupid part is these keyboard warriors characterizing all of these cops as "cowards". Also extra stupid bonus points for implying they should disobey orders and play hero. It is straight out of an action movie. But that is some people's reality.

What is the point of being a cop if you aren't going to do anything?

What would the 'chief' have done if a number of his officers had told him to **** off and gone in and ended it?

Before you come out with the 'keyboard warrior' crap. I have been under fire from far more scary stuff than a kid with a gun. I felt no fear while I was in action, just some nerves before hand but once the shooting started I was quite calm and concentrated.

Then he should never have became a cop. Being willing to risk your life is part of the job description.
It's like a fireman refusing to enter a burning buiding...it's what you signer up for;

The question remains what are they useful for? Hunters don't typically chase deer with AR15s. They have been marketed by the NRA and manufacturers as essential to defend your home when gangs of masked marauders come over the hill to seize your TV, and to fight "the government" when leftist globalist fascist commies seize power. They were designed as military weapons, and there's just no reason for them to sit in civilian hands.

It does not look like the local police had any sort of action plan for a school shooting, which is surprising, since there are so many. An action plan and drills would mean the police would know what to do.

There is protocol, as someone earlier posted, and they failed to follow it. They were cowards.

BTW she is sort of behind the curve, now even a great many conservatives are giving hell to the Uvalde police department.

Group dynamics are a strange thing. People questioned why college students at Virginia Tech sat still while the killer patiently put a bullet in the head of one person after another. I'd like to think I'd rush into Robb Elementary, take down the rampager, and evenly say, "Class is dismissed." Such fantasies are widespread. After Parkland, Trump claimed he would have stormed the building unarmed.
