Cont: Today's Mass Shooting (2)

There are AK47 and AR15 firearms with short barrels that are sold as pistols. One distinction might be that short-barreled rifles are licensed differently from pistols.

Of course they don't look like Glocks. But they're sold as pistols.

There are some stupid firearms laws that result in some strange weapon configurations.

Dumb Laws: Stock YES, Brace NO

Also, that particular Browning Hi-Power pistol in the video is allowed to have a stock because it is explicitly exempt in the law covering stocked pistols because of the way it was originally imported and it's historic significance.
If you bought an identical Browning Hi-Power and put a Browning stock on it then it would be illegal. Unless it could be shown to be over 50 years old when it would be in the Curiosity and Historic category of licensing.

Firearms laws are complex in the USA.

If it was close to a full hour, it does suck and he has every right to scream about it.

I wonder why they couldn't have moved to the windows on the outside of the building. I wonder if that classroom had windows.

I thought part of the design of so called 'hardened' schools is that they don't have any windows on the class rooms?

Confusing everything, and not mentioned in the Vice article, is reports that mainstream outlets began circulating around the time of the first press conferences, telling a story about a lone Border Patrol agent who was nearby and "rushed into the school without waiting for backup and shot and killed the gunman". This report has since been deleted by reputable outlets that carried it

That will be what conspiracy nuts hang their claims of a hoax on.
They love early confusion.

They are there as a detterent more then anyelse.
Problem is you can't deter a madman.

And as for the idea of putting armed guards on primary schools.

I can't imagine how that would work in rural areas, where I assume that some US schools are as small as in the rural UK..

That's a chilling video. What were all those cops with rifles doing standing around in the parking lot?

They're exercising their SCOTUS affirmed right to not risk their lives to help the public.

All this macho horsecrap about warrior cops in this country and public tolerance for roided up racists gunning down unarmed people for furtive movements, but when a rare moment actually comes when you need trigger pullers, they're too afwaid to do anything.

This exact scenario has been repeated enough times to prove this point. Cops won't move in to stop a shooter until they have overwhelming force, such as a SWAT team, which means any schoolhouse killer is going to have more than enough time to rack up double digit body counts. Nothing has changed since Columbine.

These cowards should be publicly shamed for the rest of their lives until they finally do the right thing and off themselves.

ETA: When calling 911, just tell the cops it's an unarmed 78 year old woman with dementia having a mental health crisis instead of a school shooting, and you'll get the aggressive response you need.

A town of 15,000 has a 9 member SWAT team that will set up a cordon to prevent parents from saving their children while giving a shooter 40 minutes to exterminate an entire classroom.

What exactly is society getting in this deal with the devil we have made regarding cops? They drain our municipal budgets, routinely violate civil rights, and when real bad stuff goes down, they are worse than worthless.

40% of the municipal budget for cops in this town and they were defeated by one guy with a gun and a locked door.

A lot of people in rural areas are heavily armed and would happily volunteer their time. ;)

a lot of fire departments waste city funds on excessive equipment and get sued for racism all the time but they do at least run into the burning buildings

All this posturing about the "thin blue line" standing between the citizenry and ruthless criminals and when it is put to the test it's just a big wet fart. Cops in body armor with rifles pissing their pants and fighting frenzied parents while giving some nut 40 minutes alone in a classroom full of kids. What a ****** joke.

I think this one managed to break the bootlicker mindset, even the AP is calling out police cowardice:

Frustrated onlookers urged police officers to charge into the Texas elementary school where a gunman’s rampage killed 19 children and two teachers, witnesses said Wednesday, as investigators worked to track the massacre that lasted upwards of 40 minutes and ended when the 18-year-old shooter was killed by a Border Patrol team.

“Go in there! Go in there!” nearby women shouted at the officers soon after the attack began, said Juan Carranza, 24, who saw the scene from outside his house, across the street from Robb Elementary School in the close-knit town of Uvalde. Carranza said the officers did not go in.

After Sandy Hook there were movements to have volunteer parent groups help with armed security. Some efforts were more formal than others. I remember a woman who would sit in the parking lot of the church that was next door to the elementary school my kids went to. She was there everyday and had an NRA sticker on her truck, I assume she was a self-appointed guard. I think many school had people functioning somewhat the same way.

.... Nothing has changed since Columbine.

This seems to be the literal truth. CONTROL, CONTROL, CONTROL. They get in that mindset and can't break back out of it. That mean crowd of parents upset the cops with loudness and harsh words, so the cops focused on CONTROL the crowd. CONTROL them, establish AUTHORITY. Then deal with other things.

Utterly inexcusable.

The job of the Police is to Protect and Serve ... themselves.
The SC made it clear that cops have no obligation to help anyone.

So take away their guns and police powers, full mother ******* stop. If they only have authority to hurt, but no duty to help, **** them.

Line every one of the responding officers who sipped coffee in that parking lot for an hour up against The Wall. It took a couple Border Police who happened to be in the area to actually use those gats and training for what they were intended for. Give them a medal. Or put them opposing the cowards lined up against The Wall.

I have a better Idea, a metal detector Triggering a glue bomb at every open door way, durring school hours, controlled of course by teachers using a Microhipped pass.

I think it's a fair question for the city to ask what exactly they are getting for 40% of their municipal budget if this is how the cops are going to act in an emergency.

We see these dystopian solutions suggested: arming teachers, turning every school into a medium security prison, volunteer armed guards. The common denominator is the tacit acknowledgement that the cops are worthless in these situations.

If you're going to turn every elementary school into Leavenworth, it should be paid for in part by gutting these worthless PDs of their obscene budgets and expensive toys.

Keeping pot smoking hippies from New Mexico out of their town... justifying their budget by writing speeding tickets where the highway speed limit drops in their town... beating up (left-wing) protesters.
