The Russian Invasion of the Ukraine.

Is Elon Musk being a hero or a douchebag with that claim that people in Ukraine can now use Starlink?

Looks like there is no way of doing it, but people are praising him anyway.

Footage of Russians standing in long lines at ATM to withdraw their money.
Rouble is down 30% even before the markest opening.
And the actual impact of the sanctions ha syet to hit.

That's what happens when the central bank tells people to not PANIC and that they are going to "buy gold on the domestic market"

No idea, but as I said, people vastly underestimate how much of the tech world gets outsourced workers from Ukraine. I don't know Musk personally, so have no idea if his intentions are pure or not, but he does have a major interest that Ukraine gets back to normal and stays Putin free.

By now, I'm sure everyone's seen that shocking footage of a Russian armoured vehicle deliberately driving over a car driven by an elderly civilian.

But I'm confused. The location where it occurred is close to the centre of Kyiv; far closer than we have been told Russian forces had penetrated. It occurred here, less than 10km from the city centre (face south on Heroiv Dnipra St).

He just wants to make himself relevant IMO - like when he "rescued" those Thai footballers in the cave.

All talk, no actual action.

I linked it further up the thread with a link to a second video that at first I thought was a continuation of the first.
But, it isn't it's a different, wheeled APC being stolen by a different tractor.
Seems they are all at it! lol

Seems a little too good to be true IMO. I really hope that a couple of Ukrainian farmers made off with APCs but I also wouldn't be shocked to find that these were either produced for propaganda purposes or are earlier videos recycled.

More reports that Belerus will joint the invasion/
Lukashenko, dictator of Belerus is a real piece of work. He wrecked the Belerus economy with his insistenc on Soviet style economic policies..which even Putin was smart enough not to do.
When he lost a 2020 election, he overturned the results and got Russian "peacekeepers" to help enforce his coup. He owes everything to Putin, and is pretty much doing the Mussolini subseviant to Hitler routine.
In other words, a POS the world would be better off without.

The really worrying part IMO is his reversing his nuclear policy. He can now develop and host nuclear weapons which also gives Putin plausible deniability if nuclear weapons end up being used in Ukraine.

According to the Daily Mail (sorry), the armoured vehicle was a Ukrainian one (hence its lack of the painted Z), stolen by Russian saboteurs, along with a truck, that was stopped by Ukrainian soldiers.

I've seen a claim that the tractor has been commandeered by Russians to tow their disabled APC back to a base, and that the man running alongside it is the tractor's owner.

Peter Hitchens in his Mail On Sunday Blog says

'I write this as a British patriot. How was it in our interests to provoke a war we cannot win, and cannot even fight, against a country which is not, in fact, our enemy?'
The West acts tough with Russia because we’re just too feeble to stand up to our real enemy… China

https://hitchensblog.mailonsunday.c...just-too-feeble-to-stand-up-to-our-real-.html

It'd be very interesting what his brother would have thought and said. Sorely missed.

He might have said this:

Mr. HITCHENS: Yes. Well, there was a big argument about this about a decade ago under the Clinton Administration, about NATO expansion. And the underlying principal difference was this. Some said, if you expand NATO, you will provoke the Russians. They'll think they're being encircled. And the other, opposite case was, they are going to try and regain their temporarily lost influence in Eastern and Balkan Europe, in any case. So the quicker we can get as many members as we can under the protective umbrella in this period of Russian - what shall we call it - eclipse, the better.

I think the second view was the more intelligent one.
The Russians are going to be expansionist whether we provoke them to it or not. For example, the Russians keep saying that we're trying to encircle them. In what sense does the independence of Kosovo, a land-locked province, former Yugoslavia, with no common border with Russia, threaten Russia with encirclement? In what sense does the independence of the Baltic states - which the Soviets gained as territory in a deal with Hitler, a direct bargain between Stalin and Hitler - would it constitute an encirclement? This is insulting. In what sense does the independence of Georgia constitute an encirclement? What we are facing, and we may as well give it its right name, is what I called it earlier, a chauvinistic, theocratic in part, xenophobic Russian imperialism.

Does this show a war crime? An apparently unarmed perhaps wounded soldier is lying beside the truck. Arms seem to be above his head. The soldier by the white van comes forward and shoots him.

The Ukrainians better not refuse else Mr. Musk will be claiming Zelensky's a paedophile.

It was the Ukrainians who asked for access to Starlink. Elon Musk says they will get access, and he is sending them recievers.

I don't see the reason to piss on him unless he fails to deliver.

It's not that he wouldn't tell a lie. It's that he probably wouldn't tell a lie that has absolutely no chance of being mistaken for true, even by his useful idiots.

How you have failed to listen to anything he has said over the last two weeks is astonishing!

Well, since you use Wikipedia as your source:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donbas#Demographics_and_politics

So you see, what language people speak neccesarily isn't an indicator of what ethnicity they are.

What ethnicity they consider themselves to be should be a bigger indicator, wouldn't you say?

I'm sure there are many people in Belgium who has a different first language than what ethnicity they consider themselves to be.

Plenty of Sami people in Norway don't speak Sami. That doesn't make them any less Sami. It certainly doesn't make then ethnic Norwegians.

Most of the populations of Scotland and Wales have English as their first language but they don't consider themselves any less Scottish or Welsh.
