The Russian Invasion of the Ukraine.

One thing that seems to be missing so far is footage of actual engagements between Russian and Ukrainian mechanized forces. Plenty of phone video of the aftermath of bumbling Russian soldiers who somehow got pantsed by Ukrainian light infantry or something.

But no artillery barrages against Ukrainian troop positions. No clips of Ukrainian tank columns moving to the front. No footage of Ukrainian infantry, bloody and battle worn, catching their breath between assaults.

So there is definitely something missing from our overall understanding of the situation.

Boris Johnson announces any Ukrainian settled in the UK will be allowed 'immediate' family members fleeing the war to join them.

But stops short of saying 'any' family members could come, which was under discussion earlier.

Why do we have to be dragged kicking and screaming, inch by inch, towards doing the right thing that our allies are already doing?

Influence from Oligarchs on the Tories?

I don't know what makes you think that the majority of citizens in the Donetsk and Lugansk republics don't identify as Russian and want to remain as part of Ukraine.

I think it would be a mistake to assume that Russian-speaking Ukrainians don't want to be Ukrainian, particularly after one Russian-speaking Ukrainian spoke rather movingly about how he and many like him very strongly wish to remain Ukrainian.

And it ain't about the Donbass anymore.

Well, you for one.
No, that's not what I meant. My goal here is certainly not to support the president of Russia Vladimir Putin.

I wanted to warn you over overconfidence, which might lead to a nuclear disaster.

I believe that Putin's attack on Ukraine was a mistake and a crime, made even worse by his campaign of lies to try to justify it (so-called Ukrainian offensive, Ukrainian genocide of Russian-speaking population and so on).

But this doesn't mean that Ukraine and Western countries are innocent, because they are guilty, for example, of having imposed absurd but severe sanctions on Russia, because of its annexation of Russian-speaking Crimea in 2014, in spite of a referendum which was clearly supportive:
According to survey carried out by Pew Research Center in April 2014, the majority of Crimean residents say the referendum was free and fair (91%) and that the government in Kyiv ought to recognize the results of the vote (88%).[152]

A poll of the Crimean public was taken by the Ukrainian branch of Germany's biggest market research organization, GfK, on January 16–22, 2015. According to its results: "Eighty-two percent of those polled said they fully supported Crimea's inclusion in Russia, and another 11 percent expressed partial support. Only 4 percent spoke out against it.

Americans (mostly) and Europeans (to a lesser extent) should understand that their sanction policies does generate a lot of anger in various countries: Russia, China, North Korea, Iran ... . This can be dangerous in a world with powerful weapons.

Remember a few days ago when Ted Cruz compared the Russian military favorably with the USA “woke, emasculated” one? How’s that aging?

The countries imposing the sanctions have ridiculously powerful weapons. They have military-industrial complexes that absolutely dwarf those of your "angry countries". They're choosing to go easy, to take the soft approach of economic incentives.

You say we should be worried about pissing off Iran? I say Iran should be terrified of actually pissing us off for real.

"Powerful weapons" my ass. The west hasn't even brought out its powerful weapons yet. You and your ilk better pray they never do.

ETA: Since we're doing WW2 comparisons, remember what happened when America got involved? It bankrolled European resistance, bankrolled Russian resistance, and opened up its own war on two fronts at the same time. That's your real endgame here. Not North Korea getting angry. Not Iran getting angry. Not China or even Russia getting angry. America getting angry for real is how this plays out, in the end.

The ones in my other usual haunts are still active but have ratcheted up the shilling to Baghdad Bob levels. Not only has Putin been reducing Ukraine to shambles, he's about to fly into Key-evv himself and personally crush Zelensky's head between his powerful and completely not gay pectoral muscles.

Sounds like the Q crackpots who basically predicted Donald Trump would personally fast-rope out of a Blackhawk into the Clinton backyard, a sheaf of arrest warrants clenched between his teeth, gripping an M-60 in his free hand.

Well, that sounds like a sizable chunk of the Republican Party nowadays, and pretty much all right-wing media. They rotate the fantasy as to who gun-totin’, pec-flexin’ Don is going to arrest Real Soon Now.

A sizable chunk of my countrymen are utterly detached from reality. But no worries, we have thermonuclear weapons!

Most Fox News, Newsmax, Daily Caller posts I see on social media regarding the invasion have tens of thousands of likes and positive reactions. Seems to be driven mostly by the admiration of the bravery of the civilian militias, perhaps something they wish they could replicate here.

Biden is to blame for not deescalating AND/OR being tough enough against Putin (I still don't know which narrative is winning).

EU to ban Russia’s RT, Sputnik media outlets, von der Leyen says

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced Sunday that Kremlin-backed RT, formerly known as Russia Today, and Sputnik, would be banned in the EU.

"We will ban the Kremlin’s media machine in the EU. The state-owned Russia Today and Sputnik, and their subsidiaries, will no longer be able to spread their lies to justify Putin’s war," she said.

"We are developing tools to ban their toxic and harmful disinformation in Europe," von der Leyen added, without providing more details.

Oh my goodness! I don't know what a certain member is going to do to get his lies and propaganda news!

Twitter bots are immune from sanctions. They'll be fine. Don't worry they won't have to make up lies on their own.
