Most Fox News, Newsmax, Daily Caller posts I see on social media regarding the invasion have tens of thousands of likes and positive reactions. Seems to be driven mostly by the admiration of the bravery of the civilian militias, perhaps something they wish they could replicate here.

Biden is to blame for not deescalating AND/OR being tough enough against Putin (I still don't know which narrative is winning).

I wonder just how many of those likes are Russian hackers.

A few observations, as veterans of our country’s wars:

1. The Ukrainians' incredible will to fight is the difference in this war. Our veterans of Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan dealt with training forces with unity issues. Ukrainians have no such issues.

2. Russia’s lack of a NCO corps and sustainment has led to operational chaos. Troops being lost, not knowing their mission, or running out of fuel. We see these stories all over the place.

3. Nothing is guaranteed, but Ukraine CAN win this war when all is said and done, because their will to fight and defend their homeland is more powerful than an invading Army in chaos that lacks synchronization.

4. Putin’s attempts to take all of Ukraine has made Ukraine stronger, and opposition against Putin and Russia stronger among the people.

5. There is no way Ukrainian people will accept a puppet government, so even in the short-term if it appears Russia is more powerful, in the end they will lose during stability operations.

6. Each day this war lasts, opposition in Russia increases. Wars become increasingly hard to win if support falters at home. Even for Putin.

7. The experts know a lot, but war is a human experience. It isn't a board game. You can win every battle and lose a war. Successful operations have to support a strategic idea.

8. Russia and Putin are on the ropes. They can’t coordinate war fighting functions of fires, maneuver, and sustainment. Without it, their ground invasion will be very costly or simply fail.

9. The longer Ukraine fights, the less likely Russia wins.

That's why, in our view, it is increasingly likely Ukraine will defeat Russia in their homeland, in the end.

He says you can see floods of simultaneous posts dumped into reddit that are pro-Russia, and apparently you can check account posting history, and see that they haven't posted for a long time, but they posted several times in the last 10 seconds, posting similar, but not exact, thoughts, in multiple places.

I noticed that. A bunch coming from accounts created in November. Four months ago a bunch of social media accounts were created that now support this.

Some also from much older accounts and some from brand new accounts. But November seems to have been a popular time to make social media accounts that now post in favor of Russia.

I think it would be a mistake to assume that Russian-speaking Ukrainians don't want to be Ukrainian, particularly after one Russian-speaking Ukrainian spoke rather movingly about how he and many like him very strongly wish to remain Ukrainian.

While the majority (2/3) of Ukrainians speak their native language, it has only been a generation or so since the Soviet Union had been trying to suppress their native tongue and a lot of Ukrainians use Russian for daily communication. Language is not a good indicator of attitude towards Ukraine.

Since energy is the main thing Russia exports, this means the SWIFT cutoffs will create a bit of chaos in the Russian economy on Monday, but still don’t represent the crippling blow many people think of when they think of SWIFT. The reason, of course, is that Europe buys a ton of energy from Russia, and a complete SWIFT cutoff would mean a lot of economic pain for Europe — spiking power costs for European consumers and industry, and financial pain for European banks invested in Russian energy assets. Symbiosis works both ways, and though Russia would feel more pain, NATO and EU countries would also feel plenty.

Hence we’re not yet really unleashing the full power of SWIFT cutoffs. This is a symbolic move that will roil Russian markets a bit, but ultimately what it’s mostly about is scaring Russian businesses and Russian elites into breaking with Putin. Most importantly, it sets a precedent — it shows that Europe is willing to use SWIFT as a tool of policy. More devastating cutoffs might follow if Putin presses the attack.
