I (or is it "me" :-) the inventor of the "Horuscope clock" would like to re-mind all of youse guys of what most --supposedly well-educated people -- do not these days re-cognize as "local time"... Thus, behold the prophesized legendary time that has come for you professorial types who think you are in the know to re-member the original purpose of phallic symbol-like obelisks (and other upright stones. :-)

If you don't think you have a mind that's your call. I was referring to the fact that there is a difference of opinion between cognitive scientists as to whether there is such a thing as a "mind". BTW, I hope that you do not mind my equivacation as my brain currently is on vacation. ;-0

But seriously folks, does anyone out there have any thoughts about how over the past several hundred years views of the nature of time have changed, and what might be the consequential negative effects on our bodies and psyches? For example, could it be that much of the drivel in this thread is due to untimely disruptions in the thought processes of the bio-clocks of some of these guys? Or are they just being silly for the sake of being silly?

I'd vote "none at all". Seriously. The difference between "localtime" and time according to the time zone is at most half an hour during standard time and an hour and a half during daylight savings time. You're talking about a difference of 7 to 23 degrees at most. I know I'm going to be sorry for asking this, but what possible effect could there be?

You mean more silly than the idea that simply standardizing what our watches read can have some physical effect on the human body? More so than that of missing a plane because you forgot to account for the fact that the airport is east of where you live?

OK now, WHO is being silly?

Do you seriously think a concept like time would have a physical effect on a person? How would that work?

There are an awful lot of human beings on this planet, and most of them do not give a hoot about "time". They get up every day, eat, do their work, eat again (if they are lucky) and go to sleep, all without knowing (or caring) what time it is. Do you think they have somehow been physically changed by time? The concept of time is certainly useful for a lot of things; science has really advanced because of being able to measure time. But I can't really see that humans dreaming up a concept like time would have "consequential negative effects on our bodies and psyches".
 
I used to live in a town that was in two time zones during half the year and one during the other half. I cannot begin to tell you the carnage and horrible effects that this had on us...

As you seem to read German model railway magazines, I'll put this down to Teutonic fascination with making trains run on time, possibly coupled with that well known German playfullness with language.

Answer- I think it's an interesting period of history. The same thing happened slightly earlier in Britain, where railways originated and where there was already a fairly well established system of post coaches which operated to reasonably tight schedules.

Jet lag.
Mass commuting at the same time.
Daylight saving time desynchronising behaviour from daylight hours.
Artificial light keeping us up till midnight.
TV schedules synchronising the watching, eating , socialising times of millions.

There's no doubt that the advent of universal time has had major effects on society and the individuals who form it.

are of course generally accepted as being true.

What I am suggesting is that when sun dials were introduced a few thousand years ago (as per the myth of Chronos usurping Uranus), and when the clock was introduced six hundred or so years ago, and when "standard time" was introduced a hundred or so years ago, each of those changes in our habits and perspectives pushed our bodies and psyches further and further away from being synchronized with a more "natural" sky time.

And I am personally very curious about how those changes may have and perhaps still are in some ways having negative effects on our psyches and our bodies -- in the way time desynchronizations produced via jet travel and artificial light at night, etc. without question can and do at times negatively effect us,

BTW, it is my hope that if such movements away from "natural time" are causing problems per our bodies and psyches, my Horuscope "timewholes" (as opposed to timepieces) will assist in some kind(s) of resynchronization(s). BTW2, I am currently exploring with a medical research institute how such research might be conducted?
