Are atheists inevitably pessimists?

Reason without experience is practically useless. We reasoned the Higgs Boson years before we discovered it. Until the discovery, the idea remained a mere hypothesis. We started talking about the Higgs in 1964. It was discovered in 2012.

Thank you for the history lesson. Now “we” did not reason the Higgs Boson. One particular person did. Can you guess his name?

And when you have done so I suggest you keep your future posts on topic.

I still want to know the name of the atheists who said that the LHC would show us evidence of a god, and the quotation in which he or she they said that.

Unattributed statements have very little power to back up your claims.

EDIT, Steve this is not directed to you, but to Cris.

"They" referred to the atheists (plural) who, according to you, say that the hadron collider will detect a god.

I am waiting for you to provide confirmation that someone said that. i am also waiting for the answers to the other questions I asked. Do you plan to answer them?

Is that a sexist comment?

In the faint expectation that some of us here actually try to learn an occasional something, here is the
Time Line of Higgs Boson from Theory to Discovery

No, it was as you see, an edit to correct grammar.

Thank you for putting the E in ISF.

Seeing is in the eye of the beholder.

Having no underlying spiritual beliefs to mitigate suffering, are atheists inevitably seeing the world through a glass darkly?

"For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known." 1 Corinthians 13:12

Recent posts make me want to ask the question again. Are atheists inevitably pessimists?

I have had schizophrenia for 50 years, heard voices persecuting me all that time, and yet I believe the universe is benign, and there is ultimate goodness and hope in life's experiences.
It seems to me some of you are completely negative, and your universe is a meaningless dark place.

For idiots who define pessimism as "Don't believe in nonsense" sure, whatever.

Here's a hot tip for a lot of people. If you're full of ****, don't mistake how people react to you as their personality.

I'm perfectly charming and nice and laid back when dealing with people who are not proudly wrong.

It was your post no 20 on the 'Would extra-terrestrial life threaten god beliefs?'
That made me dredge up this thread. All I get whenever I write about reincarnation is that little girls are raped and murdered. Mostly from Darat who has said this relentlessly, many times.

Then you probably shouldn't have defended little girls getting raped and murdered because it made their souls better or whatever you were on about.

Other people's reaction to something logically and morally defunct is not their fault, it's yours.

"I said something both vile and stupid and now people are being mean to me, I'm such a victim" is way too much of religion.

My universe is filled with light, except in places where the light's dim or blocked. It's dark there.

Meaningless? Dunno. I lack voices telling me one way or another. I'll just have to be patient.

Will they persecute me? That's an odd use of the term. Rather a crazy way, if your lordships will pardon my saying so.

Not agreeing with you, or not finding comfort in your magical delusions, doesn't make someone "completely negative". Perhaps you should try some other means of emotionally coping with disagreement from others that doesn't involve projecting your own frustration onto them - or consider the possibility that frequenting a site dedicated to rational, evidence based critical examination of the sorts of ideas you express here may not be in your best interest if it upsets you so much.

You are the one with the most disgusting, negative and terrifying universe, your universe is the one that finds it necessary for a 3 year old child to be raped multiple times and beheaded.

In my universe such behaviour is never benign and should never happened.

Yes you do because that is the universe you believe in. As you have said before you simply don’t want to consider the bad that is inherent in your universe. That doesn’t make you an optimist.

I can see that facing up to reality might look like pessimism to someone who prefers to take refuge in fantasy, but the answer to your question is no.

I've become more pessimistic about the future of humanity in the last 20 years or so but that hasn't been due to my atheism.

Are you asking whether I would lie to a dying child in need of comfort?

I'm going to go with probably yes.
