Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 28

Certainly not! Please don't insult me! I'm simply quoting back the 45th president of the USA. You should be proud.

You've already said that you hoped he met the same fate as Mussolini, now you are endorsing that he get capped. Very virtuous angle, I must say.

Gellman is running another warning story.
TRUMP’S NEXT COUP HAS ALREADY BEGUN

I'm sure Trump will be happy to try to prove that the 2020 election was stolen. But, I also think he will not run. If Trump helps someone else get elected 2024, will that mean anything to him? He will claim it proves he won 2020, but it somehow does not seem enough for his ego.

Trump winning 2024 is the ultimate success story. Against all odds.

It's not anywhere near against all odds. He's currently more likely to win next time than anybody else, and the Democrats are hellbent on making sure of that. But his delusion that it's all rigged against him is the main thing that might make him decide not to try anyway. His biggest fear is being thought of as a loser.

Oh, he's not thought of as a loser.......

Against ALL odds?

He has an EC advantage, to start with.

He has a political apparatus behind him willing, and now working, to cheat.

He has a base motivated by unreasoned fear; voting against something is a more powerful urge than voting for something.

Trump's worst enemy is his Dad who never gave him approval or love.

That's true. Dexter Morgan is a better father than Fred Trump was. From what I've seen of the 3 eldest Trump spawn, Trump's just as bad. Hopefully, the two youngest sprogs will escape his 'parenting' skills. Tiffany has never lived with him and I don't think Donnie even remembers "Melania's" son most of the time.

I mean, generally speaking...considering two impeachments, skipping a term, multiple scandals, no access to social media, etc...it will be quite shocking if he wins 2024. If that doesn't prove what a **** show the Democratic party is, nothing will.

Personally, I really hope he does not run. I'm not worried about the "end of democracy" or any of that crap. I just don't think he is a good candidate, and 4 more years of the associated drama sounds like a total nightmare.

Good plan. This keeps anyone other than Trump rising out of the GOP mass. The Trumpsters for sure would not bother voting if the candidate was not anointed by Trump, and still not very excited.

They really have no candidate. Crux? No. DeSantis? Maybe. But he has no appeal outside of Florida.

Warp,
How certain are you that the Dems being ineffective would be a bigger reason for a Trump win than an all-in base wanting him back? And note that the ineffectiveness of the Dems derives in good measure because The Turtle has made blind opposition his mantra. That the first part of the infrastructure package got some Repub support is almost a miracle, but to totally oppose a bill that is many years (decades, really) late and which most conservatives want would be a bad look indeed.

The GOP modus operandi of obstruction, then saying how the opposition is doing nothing, is cynicism of the highest order. And when the Ds get some occasional 'win' in spite of R opposition, the Rs will still take credit and crow to their electorate of the goldfish-like memory, thus benefitting at both ends.

My feeling is that Dems have an uncanny knack for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Just like they did in 2016. I mean, Trump has so many strikes against him at this point. For him to win in 2024 would be completely ludicrous, imo.

The whole "it's not our fault, therefore we need not change" stance is just going to guarantee future failure, imo. At least it is fun to watch.

I don't think it's that.
I think Dems have social progress on their side, so they are seen as the Party that could affect more significant change - which, if unchecked, could upset the Status Quo.
Republicans are likely to do the same old, same old, which is making life worse for minorities, but leaving the rest of the population only slightly worse off.
So the instinct of voters not to let a Party win Big is stronger for Dems that Repubs.
Also, Dems are more likely to win the Presidency, and many voters forget that it takes more than control of the White House to get anything done.
