AP News: "Let's go, Brandon" is really code for "**** Joe Biden"

Again the whole pro-troll motto that any reaction is them counts as them winning is just another form of trolling.

It's amazingly recursive.

Them : (attempt at trolling)

Me: Well, that was transparent and extremely unclever.

Them : HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I WAS JUST MAKING NO SENSE TO GET YOU TO REACT!!!

Me: No S***

Them: TRIGGERED TRIGGERED TRIGGERED!!!!!!

Me: (rolls eyes, leaves)

Them : SEE!!!! LIBERALS HATE FREE SPEECH COME BACK HERE AND HUMOR MY ADMITTED NONSENSE SO I CAN PROVE YOU DONT GET THE JOKE I'M NOT MAKING!!!!

"Trolling" once meant deliberately doing things that would actually make other people angry.

Now it means doing things that nobody else cares about a bit and just pretending that made them angry.

Doing an experiment. There's some crank near me that makes a point of parking his big truck in our small downtown area with a big "**** Joe Biden" sign displayed on the weekends.

I'm curious if this flag will change to the less explicit, but more trendy "Let's go Brandon".

These things make you wonder.

If I didn't care that people were expressing disdain for Biden but really didn't want to see the f-word displayed in public or if the aggressiveness of putting f-anything in the public square bothered me I don't think I could come up with a better way than "Lets Go Brandon" to get them to stop.

My grandparents' neighbor has a "**** Joe Biden and **** anyone who voted for him" sign. They have yet to embrace "Let's Go, Brandon".

Maybe I should try to sell them a LGB sign?

It started at an Oct. 2 NASCAR race at the Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama. Brandon Brown, a 28-year-old driver, had won his first Xfinity Series and was being interviewed by an NBC Sports reporter. The crowd behind him was chanting something at first difficult to make out. The reporter suggested they were chanting “Let’s go, Brandon” to cheer the driver. But it became increasingly clear they were saying: “F—- Joe Biden.”

Clearly what was being chanted was not "difficult to make out". The real story here, in my opinion, isn't the meme itself, but that NBC news reporter Kelli Stavast abjectly lied when she suggested that the crowd was chanting "Lets go Brandon", in an attempt to mislead and gaslight viewers. This reflects much of the media's and the political interests they represent disdain for truth, and the propensity to try and spin reality even when it's oblivious to them that it's an obvious lie to everyone else.

Haha, FFS, she's a sports reporter, probably just trying to clean things up for TV. Definitely not some vast media conspiracy

Bumper stickers were the go to for zero risk, zero effort, low cost, self righteous preening for decades before there was an internet. All the Coexist, baby on board, don't tread on me.... nothing new there.

My favorite of the self righteous preening bumper stickers is probably the "hate is NOT a family value" variety. I love the implicit suggestion that there's a movement out there claiming that hate is a family value.

I agree that it wasn't;t difficult to make out, but I'm not sure if I'd really call what she did lying. I think she was just trying to gloss over it to avoid embarrassment for herself. Probably.

I agree with the bolded part. But I'm always amazed at how often it's not obvious to everyone that they're lying. Lots of people out there only consume NPR, the NYTimes and network news, and don't keep track of all the retractions, etc. Last year with the Jussie Smollett hoax and the Covington incident happening so closely in succession, I thought it was finally too obvious to endure and the veil had finally been lifted. But instead, we moved onto the mostly peaceful protests and no-one batted an eye.

Yep. I've never liked bumper stickers, shirts/hoodie, whatever with political/religious slogans. I don't give an EFF what anyone's political or religious beliefs are. Why they think they need to share them eludes me if not for "self-righteous preening" as you said. I've got one sticker on my car: of a cute Boston Terrier. That's it. Any more and any other kind just makes a car look tacky, imo.

Has Boebert done a single thing of importance since being in Congress? It seems all she does, like MTG, is perform stupid, attention-seeking stunts. Oh, well... it does seem that stupid narcissism is the 'in' thing among the GOP now.

You're being tongue-in-cheek, right? I mean you have to be.

At least they make retractions when they're incorrect. I can think of certain right wing media that don't bother with retractions when they've been wrong...mostly because they never admit they're wrong.

No, not at all.

Who cares? Of course you can think of right wing media that doesn't bother with retractions. So can I. But what does that have to do with my comment?

At least NPR, NYTimes and network news bother to correct mistakes and you're assuming that people who "only consume" those wouldn't also see the retractions. Why not if that's what they follow? At least they get updated. Those who only watch right wing media that doesn't issue retractions only get the errors and never the corrected updates. Not difficult to understand.

They're narrative spinning operations. Saying they "correct mistakes" is being far too generous. They heavily curate their content to serve certain narratives, and if/when they do retractions they're not given anywhere near the prominence of the original false claims.

I had no difficulty understanding, but it appears you're having some. Of course people who read media that doesn't issue retractions don't see retractions in that particular media. What kind of silly, irrelevant point is that?

No, it's not being 'far too generous' and your post above, ironically, is a classic example of spinning a narrative.
I might have to take a dramamine if it got spun any more. You're attempting to minimize the professionalism and integrity of The NYTimes... winner of 132 Pulitzer Awards and countless others and that of the NPR which won a Pulitzer this year. The only Pulitzer Fox News ever won was for, as Andy Borowitz said tongue in cheek, fiction. All the major news broadcasters have been attacked as "fake news" by Trump because they report the news and not Trump lies.

she clearly didn't want to call out the chanters for the Deplorables that they are.
Do you think for a second that Fox would have downplayed chants of "**** Trump?" It would have been THE Story.
But NBC didn't want to make a sports story political, even when the people at the Race clearly did want it to be just that.

If the media calls out people in Red States for the hateful bigots that many are, you still claim that they are lying.
So it's always "heads I win, tail you lose" with the MSM for you, isn't it?

So what you're claiming is that Stavast deliberately lied about what the crowd was chanting even though anyone watching the interview would have known immediately that she was lying because "clearly what was being chanted was not 'difficult to make out' "? It's not because she misheard it. Have I got that right?
