Stupid and ill-informed. A number of people have drawn a direct connection between the rise of Trump and the decline of local newspapers, which used to be a primary source of information for people across the political and social spectrums.

Ill-informed being perhaps the more important of the two. It honestly doesn't matter how "smart" one is if GIGO is in effect.

Assuming those who have died of COVID will also not vote, it certainly could make a difference in tight contests.

Ron DeSantis won Florida by 32,463 votes.

As of this post 58,143 people have died of COVID in the state of Florida.

So you wouldn't need but a very minor (and all evidence points to there being a MAJOR) bias toward Republicans dying of COVID for him to, very literally as well as metaphorically, killing his chance at re-election mathematically.

Now is this certain? No politics is weird (citation needed) and complicated (citation needed) but I'd be amazed if it wasn't a factor.

Ho hum... another day, another investigation.

From: ESPN
Donald Trump's company is under criminal investigation by a district attorney in a New York City suburb into whether it misled officials to cut taxes for a golf course...The district attorney's office subpoenaed records from both the Trump National Golf Club in Westchester and the town that handles its taxes...The probe appears to focus in part on whether the former president's company submitted misleading valuations on the golf course.

Of course, innocent until proven guilty and all that. But this sort of thing would not be surprising coming from the Trump organization. (And of course even if it is found that they were engaged in tax fraud, it would likely only be the company itself, and not Stubby McBonespurs, who gets impacted.)

Here is a previous set of "valuations" for Trump courses.

The GOP must be tearing what remains of their hair out.

Mitch McConnell made a rather cryptic comment:

"I do think we need to be thinking about the future and not the past.
I think the American people are focusing on this administration,
what it's doing to the country, and it's my hope the '22 election
will be a referendum on the performance of the current administration,
not a rehash of suggestions about what may have happened in 2020."

Not sure if for Trump or against.

Of course you tell banks and tax offices that it is worth dramatically different amounts of money. That is just how one does business.

Trump to launch new social media platform TRUTH Social

Former US President Donald Trump has announced plans to launch a new social media network, called TRUTH Social.

He said the platform would "stand up to the tyranny of big tech", accusing them of silencing opposing voices in the US.

Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), which he chairs, also intends to launch a subscription video-on-demand service.

Problem is that covid deniers who lost loved ones are probably going to become more, not less radicalized.

Anyone who voted for Trump in 2020 is not going to be any more of a problem in 2022 or 2024 as they still only have one vote. But those Trump supporters who died will be that many fewer votes.

This just in: Trump knows very little about the Founding Fathers. .

In a criticism of the NY City Council voting to remove a statue of Jefferson, Trump proxy-Tweeted
DJT said:
"The late, great Thomas Jefferson, one of our most important Founding Fathers, and a principal writer of the Constitution of the United States, is being 'evicted' from the magnificent New York City Council Chamber."

Because Jefferson was in France at the time, he was not one of the writers of the Constitution .

And no surprise whatsoever when it turns out that a) he's lending the name to an existing product, and b) said product is dodgy as hell. It appears to be a fork of Mastodon (open-source social media hosting software), similar to Gab, but they've skipped over a few steps along the way, such as complying with the GPL (the license under which Mastodon is published).

Hmmm... How does one say "truth" in Russian?

Pravda.

Pravda is a Russian broadsheet newspaper, formerly the official newspaper of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, when it was one of the most influential papers in the country with a circulation of 11 million.
