No, it just means self-declared gender identity should be the sole arbiter of whether you get an M or F on your papers. "One situation" is not quite the same thing as "all situations".
Being recognised as trans is not quite the same thing as "being treated according to one's gender identity in all situations"

Look, these arguments went on for pages. Dig through the threads if you actually care, I'm not going to dig any further. But EVERYONE involved in that back and forth knows that was Boudicca90's position. It isn't a straw man. It may not be YOUR position, and you aren't obligated to care about Boudicca's position, but it absolutely was Boudicca's.
ETA: and in case you still don't understand how extreme Boudicca90's position is, this person insisted that they are biologically female. With a penis. This goes well beyond "gender identification", and yes, it applies to all situations.

Boudicca was clear and adamant that she was a woman with a woman's penis and that was it. End of discussion. She was a woman in gender and a woman in sex. Period. She brokered no discussion or dissent. Not one single person in the discussion meet her standards of acceptance. We were all transphobes to her. No matter how hard you simped for the transgender people as a demographic it wasn't good enough for her.
But the "gender/sex" distinction is yet another thing that the Trans-supporters says is super-important that I've yet to meet a transperson who cares about.

I'm pretty sure that transgenderism is really transsexualism. Take away the crossing of sex segregation boundaries, and all that's really left is cosplaying this or that interpretation of gender stereotypes in pop culture.
On thing that's become obvious in this discussion is that the trans-inclusionists have no **** ing clue what "be a woman" even means anymore.

Yes, you see plenty of that attitude among those that think gender is more important than sex (or that sex is a social construct, or changeable via hormones). If they want no female only spaces/representation, etc. they're pretty much (logically) obligated to take that POV.
That being said, there are plenty of trans folks who make the distinction - Buck Angel, Debbie Hayton (among others) are vocal on twitter to that effect. Plus of course, all the de-transitioners. But all those folks get labeled as traitors or similar. I've seen some that have said others they talk to are quiet due to the backlash by gender ideologists. Shoot, Lil Nas X got reprimanded for saying he "likes dick" (i.e. is same-sex attracted)
On a related note, journalist/writer (& lesbian) Katie Herzog has just noted that she had been afraid to comment on the demise of lesbians as they transition due to what she thinks is social pressure.
Well at this point "Trans" is yet another term that means so much it means nothing.

Lauren Southern has a legal male identity, but if she were ever sent to jail, I'm guessing she wouldn't want to be in the men's prison.
Gosh, could it be that trans women, like men, women, trans men, and all the other combos, don't all have the same opinion?
And there's a classic example of what the sentence above is getting at.
Some trans women never call it a penis and refer to it as a "clitty".
Some trans women loathe the thought of anything to do with having a penis and want it removed asap.
Some trans women love their dicks and want to keep it for the enjoyment to be gained.
There are other options.

You say anecdote, I say case study.
The ideal is to consider and address risks in public policy before they become a problem of true statistical significance.
There has to be a middle ground of risk assessment and mitigation between "individual incidents are anecdotes, and we don't care about anecdotes" and "a hundred thousand incidents is a terrible statistic, and we should have started caring long before it got to this point."
The perfect time to think think this through and mitigate the risks is right now, while they're still just isolated incidents. You don't really want to wait until male on female prison rape increases tenfold, before you get around to thinking about how to mitigate that risk more effectively... Or do you?

Also you can just... like protect people in prison without... any of this.
Like they already segregate gangs and races and other groups in prison based on potential violence all the time.
