Cont: Rioters storm and occupy the US Capitol - part 2

Prosecutors want as many rioters to plead as possible; the reason being that it might very well be a sound strategy for the worst offenders to delay and delay until there is another Republican Majority in Congress and the White House. And the more cases actually go to Court, the more likely it is that the more serious cases will get postponed for years.

I doubt that Republicans would do anything to help these people even if they could. They're cannon fodder, nobody gives a **** that they wrecked their own lives following orders from their fascist god-king. Hell, even Trump didn't pardon any of these CHUDs.

There's always new CHUDs waiting in the wings for the next bout of fascist violence, no need to worry ourselves with a few hundred ensnared footsoldiers.

Winner winner chicken dinner

Oathkeeper is cooperating with the feds and informing on his pals for leniency in sentencing.

When it comes to snitching, Ricky Bobby rules apply. If you aint first, you're last.

ETA: Unclear if "don't rat on your comrades" is part of the oath they keep.

CHUD that is informing on his fascist buddies is still looking at 5 years of prison time, and that's a good deal for him.

These guys are going to get absolutely hammered into paste and I'm loving it.

Graydon Young, 54, of Englewood, Fla., pleaded guilty to one felony count each of conspiracy and obstruction of congress. Young was one of 16 alleged Oath Keepers accused of coordinating a military-style attack on the capitol aimed at preventing the U.S. Senate from counting and ratifying the electoral college votes during the 2020 election cycle.

He is the first of 16 alleged co-conspirators connected to the Oath Keepers to enter a guilty plea on charges that the group plotted the attack on the capitol, and he is the second actual alleged member of the Oath Keepers to plead guilty. In return for his plea and agreement to cooperate, the government dismissed four other counts charged against Young and recommended he serve between 63 and 78 months in prison.

Just for the raw, pure symbolism of it we need at least one Sedition charge to stick to someone.

Someone above mentioned a constitutional right to overthrow the government; I don't think it's in the constitution but the Declaration of Independence actually does spell out a right to revolt ... which really only works if your side WINS, but the basic cause of overthrowing a repressive (or otherwise bad) government is ... kinda enshrined.

I believe there is such a thing as situational mental illness. It's not an excuse, but maybe it's a mitigating factor, if someone has since come to their senses. There were serious criminals storming the Capitol but there were also highly gullible, histrionic people skillfully manipulated into committing a crime.

If they can see this now, that's a good thing ... if they can't, they are still IMO dangerous and deserve more serious sentences.

I suspect there was one deal to be had among this group and this was it. If the rat is getting a nickle, the 11 maggots are probably going away for at least a dime.

For Sills, I like that they added robbery. He seems to have stolen a baton from a police officer using force, which is robbery. I can't recall reading anything about the charge being applied that way but I like it.

He'd be a good sacrificial lamb to get consecutive sentences for multiple convictions.

There may be a few more opportunities for some of the other groups involved, as I don't think there was much cooperation between oath keepers and proud boys. Some of the reporting seems to indicate that multiple proud boy chapters were present and may have been working mostly independently from one another, so there may be a few more opportunities for some rats to inform.

But yeah, I think the leniency ticket has been punched for the Oathkeepers and the rest are hosed.

Woman who made a big show of regret, which seemed to play a significant role in receiving only a probation sentence, is now on Fox News downplaying the severity of her crimes post-conviction. Much was written about how this was the model defendant in the case because she was showing so much sincere remorse, now she's on fascist cable begging for sympathy.

Talk about throwing a lenient sentence into a judge's face. Probably going to make things more difficult for CHUD "tourists" who have yet to be sentenced.

Could lying about remorse be interpreted as perjury ? ;) :D

Reading through some of the twitter comments (which admittedly may not be 100% accurate)....

Someone pointed out that it may not have necessarily been the judges fault; instead, it was the prosecutors who may have been to blame for agreeing to such a lenient deal.

If so, hopefully it is a teaching moment for all involved.... quit recommending such light sentences in plea deals, and try to put in some sort of "no media contact" as a condition of probation.

Not sure if "no media contact" is a constitutional condition for parole.

Not sure why it wouldn't be. After all, the terms of a conviction involve removing certain constitutional rights. (e.g. in prison you don't have freedom of association, freedom of movement, etc.) If a person is on parole, they get some of those rights back, but they don't necessarily have to get ALL those rights back.

Its a Canadian case, but after Mabus/Markuze was arrested, they were (technically) forbidden from using certain types of social media. A ban on media contacts would work the same way.

I don't like these folks either, but I haven't seen any evidence that they are cannibals who live underground.
