I'm still curious to know why Monica thinks the claim that Hitler and Trump both have Jewish ancestry is remotely relevant to a discussion of their behavior.

all of human history, back to the Neolithic Age, can be explained as a conflict between rival Jewish Conspirators.

Also Godwins Law was invoked to originally call out arriving at stupid conclusions like:

Hitler was vegan, so all vegans are Nazis.

or

Hitler loved dogs, so all dog lovers are Nazis.

Alas, I may never get a direct answer to my question, or get to ask if Trump and Hitler both being old counts against them as much as allegedly being Jewish.

The belief that white people are being replaced (the Jews will not replace us)
Mexicans are the new boogeyman (it was Jews in 1930's Germany)

With all the voter suppression laws and anti civil-rights laws that are currently being passed in swing states and Democratic states with Republican Legislatures, it not beyond reason that so many Democratic voters will be prevented from voting, that Republicans could win back states with as little as 20% of the electorate or less. I have no doubt that Republican politicians are literally willing to take a wrecking ball to the US electoral system in order to get back into power, and then undertake whatever corrupt actions they deem necessary to keep it.

Am I saying that the USA is going to become a right wing dictatorship tomorrow. No, but the conditions are in place, and the warning signs are there - ignore them at your peril...

You have a Democracy right now... the question is, can you keep it!?

The problem with subjective criteria....how does a disinterested third party know when it is sufficiently big/overt/admiring? This list isn't as bad as the 14 points, but it has the same flaw.
 
Fo0r those people who are so smug about democracy dying in the US, don't think it won;t have a impact. The death of democracy in the US puts democarcy worldside on the endangered list.
 
And I have to point out the air do despair I am getting from some posters here helps nobody but the GOP. Saying you cause is doomed is not good for morale.
Of course I wonder id a couple of people here are doing the whole "I want fascism because the sooner we have fascism the sooner we will have the glorious People's revolution" routine.

I don't think it can be avoided. Not only is extremism on the rise in the world, but climate change will introduce a tasty new menu of incentives for war and ethnic struggles.

The future doesn't look bright. But perhaps after that, things will improve.

I don't like this whole idea of "thw world is headed toware being like a dystopian YA novel, and there is nothing we can do about it" attitude. A lot of it, frankly, is indulging in teen age angst by people who are old enough to knwo better.

An organized movement doesn't require a single cult leader. The right-wing has promoted anti-tax, anti-government, anti-regulation, anti-democratic policies in a deliberate, methodical way since the beginning of the Reagan administration with big money from the Kochs and other billionaires.
