The Biden Presidency

I use to speak events all the time. I almost always brought 3x5 cards with bullet points and others maybe with facts or quotes I planned on using. I don't care who you are or how polished you think you are, it is easy to get off track and draw a blank. Call them cheat sheets if you want. I certainly don't care if Biden refers to notes.

I've been involved in training new people at work for almost 20 years now. I was on the team that collated our old training materials into the first version of the training manual that we use. I've given lectures on the same topics probably 8-10 times since we started this training program, and they're topics I deal with essentially every week during my regular work.

I still use notes every time I give a lecture.

Obviously you need BRAIN drug!

Just for the fun of it, since the Biden bashers have just been attempting to attack and many of the less biased have been just having fun with how bad many of the attempts are, it might be worth considering a bit more of a pro-Biden view to start things with, to mix it up a bit.

Joe Biden wiped the floor with Republicans at his press conference. They should be very, very afraid

After much media anticipation, President Joe Biden held his first press conference this week. Congressional Republicans are likely hoping he never holds another one again.

From touting all the "good stuff" his administration could do on infrastructure to skewering newly passed GOP voter suppression laws as "sick," folksy Joe held forth, stepping right into the schism between Republican corporatists and the white working-class voters they're suddenly trying to court—and blowing it wide open.

To some extent, Biden just speaks in everyman language. "That's a serious question—right?" he chided one reporter, who asked whether it was “acceptable” to him that one Texas facility housing unaccompanied migrant children was at 1,556% capacity.

"Is it acceptable to me? Come on," Biden said, projecting disbelief that such a question would even be posed. Biden went on to describe the urgent steps he is taking to ease the overcrowding, such as opening up Fort Bliss to house as many as 5,000 children. He also humanized the sheer desperation that must lead parents to send their kids north with hopes for a better life. However, the situation as it stands "is totally unacceptable," he concluded unequivocally.

But beyond Biden’s plain-spoken linguistics, he just connects the dots for people in very accessible ways. After outlining the nation's crumbling infrastructure—with some 231,000 bridges needing repairs, six to 10 million homes still getting water through lead pipes, and over 100,000 uncapped wellheads leaking methane gas—Biden paused to ask, "What are we doing?"

"I just find it frustrating," he added. "There’s so much we can do that’s good stuff, makes people healthier, and creates good jobs."

C’mon, folks, this is such a no-brainer. How about that pitch to kick off what could well become Biden's legacy bill—a multi-trillion measure that revolutionizes America's infrastructure and economy for the 21st century?

<snip>

Republicans have no one who can compete with Biden’s everyman sensibilities. The GOP base—as it has been at least temporarily reshaped by Trump—doesn't like the lawmaker elites who run the party. In Civiqs tracking polls, just 62% of Republicans say they have a favorable view of the Republican Party—that is astoundingly low. By contrast, 89% of Democrats have a favorable view of their own party.

<snip>

"I set a goal that’s in front of me to get things done for the people I care most about, which are hardworking, decent American people who are getting—really having it stuck to them," Biden said on the passage of his $1.9 trillion relief package. "I want to change the paradigm. I want to change the paradigm. We start to reward work, not just wealth."

Gee, what a concept. Then Biden stuck it to Republicans for uniformly opposing the relief package.

"Did you hear them complain when they passed close to a $2 trillion Trump tax cut—83% going to the top 1%? Did you hear them talk about that all?" Biden asked.

"When the federal budget is saving people’s lives, they don’t think it’s such a good idea," Biden continued, adding, "When the federal budget is feathering the nest of the wealthiest Americans—90 of the Fortune 500 companies making billions of dollars not paying a cent in taxes ... [but] if you’re a husband and wife, a schoolteacher and a cop, you’re paying at a higher rate than the average person making a billion dollars a year is—something is wrong."

That about covers it: Republicans draw the line at spending money to save American lives while raiding federal funds to feather the nest of the nation's wealthiest.

That was perhaps stretching fair use a little, but much of that was simply quoting Biden, so I think it's not a problem in this case. So Biden bashers, you've got a chance to try to reverse roles now!

ROFL .
You like the stuttering ?

I want to ask about this. Do you feel that people who stutter are contemptible?

I mean, I realize that directly answering questions isn't really your idiom, but having a problem with someone who stutters (or someone who has worked hard to overcome a stutter) seems to me to be similar to having a problem with someone who has a physical disability, or someone who has slurred speech because of a neurological injury.

The rest of your post reminds me of Apollo hoax conspiracy theorists who point to the post Apollo 11 press conference as "proof" that Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins were lying. They want to believe that there's something fishy about it, so they interpret even the slightest gesture, pause, eye movement, shift in posture, etcetera, as supporting their a priori conclusion that the three astronauts were lying.

In short, that's what you're doing. But in real life, even a career politician doesn't speak spontaneously in perfect paragraphs that seem as though they were read right out of a well edited text. I've seen a few people, Carl Sagan for example, who could speak spontaneously like that, but the vast majority of people, even very smart ones, can't do that.

Oh, no! Biden repeated himself! That's irrefutable proof that Biden has dementia! He can't even remember what he just said!

(I'm just getting it in there before certain people do because you know it's coming...)

No doubt those cartel hecklers knew exactly who these "observers" were standing there in the dark at AM. Heckling sure sounds like a typical cartel activity :boggled: I think this can be filed under "tall tales".

They could hear the shouts rather clearly:

"Hey, Lyin' Ted! Your wife is ugly, your beard is stupid, and nobody likes you!"
"Hey, Lady G! You're a bigger loser and hypocrite than Lyin' Ted!"

Turns out it wasn't a Mexican cartel shouting from across the border. It was Donald Trump wearing a sombrero all hopped up on Taco Bell.

These truths are the fake news that the lamestream media won't tell you about.

...Respectful snip...

I think that one little statement/question tells us way more than enough. The disgusting and contemptible attitude displayed by such a question can only come from a less-than-human being. It is a real shame that such statements can stand without censure on this forum.

It's not that everyone on the right is stupid. Selfish and self centered maybe. But not stupid. Granted, there are a lot of morons on the right. But there is share on the left.

What amazes me are the huge number of poor people on the right voting against their own self interest.

But anyone who actually thinks Trump was even the slightest bit truthful is pretty damn stupid. Now if they are aware that he was a lying POS but was good for their bank accounts and are playing the game, so be it.

Also, the right isn't what it use to be. The GOP has effectively become the American NAZI party light. It is anti-democracy and fascist through and through.

Okay most are stupid, the rest are just plain mean and self centered. Which is also stupid ;)

I used a little hyperbole, it comes from my frustration. I look a few posts up and see a poster devoting 4 paragraphs responding to either a troll or a junior high school kid. That's 20 minutes out of ones life wasted. Tired of seeing that here.

I see little/no cogent arguments from the right here, I believe that right now there are simply none to be made. I see no attempt at promoting their ideals that's for sure. It's all whining and schoolyard taunts, as it has been since Trump was elected.

Their guy screwed up so bad that there's literally nothing positive they can say about the Republicans. Everything just sounds ridiculous and childish. Anyone who still supports Trump and his ilk just aren't worth "debating" because they must be an idiot or evil scum to do so. Or a troll (which falls under "idiot and evil scum"). Who else could see anything positive there?

I'm a skeptic open to being proven wrong. Please, someone show me how anyone can defend Trump without being a complete moron.

As far as I can see there is no Republican party, maybe that's the problem. What does it even mean to be a Republican now?

I just don't have the patience to deal with these types of people, especially here. It's tedious and boring. I'm tired of their ignorance and hate.

I see more value these days discussing politics with like-minded people rather than entertaining these jerk-offs (who shall not be named). Debate is fun, but this is not debate. It's just annoying.

Yes, this is a rant and now I'm done.

Its just sensationalizing

Most public speakers use cue cards or notes. I do so every time I am called upon to speak in front of an audience - I'm 65 and have beeing doing so since my school days. Trump used pieces of of paper to remind him what to do ALL THE TIME!

No, what has got the average Repugnican's goat is that Biden doesn't give many opportunities for real, meaningful criticism (certainly nothing like the five times daily dose of narcissistic Trump stupidity, arrogance and lies we have become accustomed to in the last four 4years. Its pretty obvious from the tenor of the posts by our right wing Trump sycophant members that they are absolutely desperate to find a criticism, any criticism to cling to - with Obama it was black skin, birtherism and a tan suit that made Repugnican heads explode. Now its the remnants of a lifelong stutter, and old age - if Biden didn't have a stutter and was 65, they would be desperately trying to find something else to cling to.
Agreed. The problem is it's become normalized with the Repubs. It's their go-to move. I suppose we should be happy they're not trotting out policy proposal after policy proposal that would only hurt most people?

Remember this when Biden helped the kid with a stutter?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lZbOiktAh4

It takes a small, selfish mind to not admire people who try to overcome their stutters and to not recognize the human decency in our current President, compared with some of the other presidents who shall remain nameless.

I get it. You are posing good questions. I like a good dialectic. Smart questions and smart arguments gets you to think.

The Republican party HAS to split. It has to purge this fascist authoritarian wing or we are all in trouble.

Maybe you can help me. Since when did coyotes (smugglers), other criminals or just a couple guys in Mexico heckling a boat full of [fill in the blank] become a "cartel" and how can you tell?

See below.

Seems that those being heckled (to fill in your blank) are 18 senators.
Standing on the Mexican border.
At 1 AM.
Watching a massive influx of women and children.
With the Border Patrol.
Who were powerless to act because Biden has not "addressed it".
Who were heckled by cartels.
Cartels who are infamous for their heckling antics (I made this one up)

Senate Republicans tweeted

@SenateGOP

1:00AM on our southern border.

18 Senators are here with Border Patrol on their night shift.

We saw the massive influx of migrant crossings.

Countless women + children.

We were heckled by cartels.

This is a humanitarian crisis.

And Joe Biden needs to address it immediately.

I'm not sure Biden even plays golf. Anyone know for sure?
The Internet says yes, and that he was pretty good at some point.

He looks "athletic" to me in a certain way, but actually a lot of very good golfers don't conform to my stereotype of an athletic physique.

I would have like to have seen 18 Senators standing at the border at 1AM watching countless women and children cross it, but even more I would like to see the cartel heckling them while doing so.

Question: Why the sudden influx of migrants wanting to cross the border?

Answer: Because they think now that Biden is POTUS and not Trump, that Biden will let them in.

Question: Why would they think Biden will let them in?

Answer: Because Trump told them he would!!
